Service manager keeps insisting it's tires. He did say that the body mounts and frame play into the vibration. Putting stock wheels and tires back on to rule the nitto g2's.

Your tires only need to be road forced to their spec. After that, they have to prove your tires are actually the problem. Magnuson-Moss Act. The burden is on them. You can have upgraded shocks, a sway bar, tires, etc. They are avoiding any kind of discovery diagnostics and placing blame on the customer. It's BS, call GM or Chevy customer service, open a case, and gripe away.

I called gm this morning to open a case and I was asked what I wanted. I replied with a 60k truck that didn't shake.

Drove the Silverado to Columbus Ohio Friday was ok going down , only went up to 71 MPH on the interstate . Came home Tuesday morning truck running smooth at 70 MPH and decided to take her up , ok at 71 , took to 72 not perfect , took to 73 MPH and the steering wheel started shaking , went back down to 70 smooth again , back up to 73 MPH and shaking again !

 

I have been experimenting with my truck and know what is causing the shaking up front ! We all know that GM engineers read this form so I will wait to see if someone has the balls to contact me but I will not hold my breath !!!!!!!!!

 

I'm sure they will not believe what is wrong

Tech told me that gm wants tires equivalent to car tires (14 lbs road force?) and that is crazy for a truck. Update tomorrow.

It is over for me also. The truck was nice but the non-ending vibrations and absolute feeling of wanting to drive off a cliff were too much.

 

Funny thing, driving a vehicle that does not vibrate -

 

I will continue to monitor and have saved all my reciepts for repairs / balancing on the silverado in case a class action is filed and these docs are needed.

I have been following this thread for well over a year but this is my first post. I have had this dreaded vibration ever since my odometer turned 800 miles. It happens in the 40's and 70+. I drive mainly on the interstate, so I shake most of the time. My truck came with 22's and my dealer has replaced 11 tires and tried different rims with 0 success. They eventually put the 18" rims back on that the truck came with from the factory with Bridgestone AT tires. This reduced the vibes greatly but not totally. They have done the PICO and GM says it is "within spec". So I believe they have done all that they can do. I have driven it this way for about year. Last week I tried something that I had read on another forum. I put the truck in M5 and turned off grade braking. I have been driving it this way for just over a week on the interstate at 70+ speeds. Hardly any vibrations at all. My truck is tuned with an Intune so I've had AFM turned off for a while. My question is, what would cause the vibrations to disappear by driving in M5 with grade braking off compared to driving in D with grade braking on?

If I had the budget, time, and the tools Gm engineers have, these vibration issues would be sorted by now!

 

However if they exist in the engine (v4-v8 mode) switch, transmission (shudder) from torque converter being locked up early for mileage claims, and possible a wierd transfer driveline imbalance.

They will not redesign internal hard parts at or nearing the end of model year run.

 

A successful company always, continuesly keeps improving their products. GM however is selling these trucks with full knowledge of these mechanical, and vibration problems.

 

I personally believe their is a stacking problem of critical rotating parts not machined correctly, add that to a high tensile frame, which allows frame beaming to occur and transfers all this energy to the cabin and passengers.

Exactly the problem, tolerance stack that creates a vibration that matches the natural frequency of the truck at particular speeds which then resonates through the unforgiving frame. The problem is the vibration at least in my case and probably others is third order tire which isn't caused by a simple mass imbalance. Mass imbalance causes first order vibrations. It's why the problem isn't corrected by balancing. My tires are all road forced to below 10 lbs and the truck still shakes.

What do you believe is causing the front end to shake?

Torque converter + driveshaft + axle(s)​ + always engaged brakes = vibrations. So you take away the constant V8/V4 switching and engaged brakes. It feels normal-ish. You think what's left of the vibe you feel is road feedback. It's not. The culprit for many of us will be the pinion preload. This was discussed almost a year ago in another thread. GM hasn't addressed it yet. And they won't.

Have a '17 denali loaner today with 2k miles on it, 75mph it vibrates, so annoying and so worth getting out of the vehicle if they can't fix it. I feel for you guys, I would be so pissed if my new truck did this.

If it is nothing more than pinion preload why would GM continue to ignore it ?

Cost and no safty issue, only problem they have is the customer complaints. The only way to fix it is to stop buying there product.

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle. 
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks. 
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions? 
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!  
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
