Gas mileage...

1. What MPG are you seeing in city traffic?

2. What MPG are you seeing on the highway?

Thanks!

1- We're getting about 18.5MPG right now, driving around town. We have not yet done any extensive highway driving. We'll let you know!

My 2006 has an iPhone charger/interface already. :smash:

I really like that front seat.

Could you get a few engine bay shots?

This truck has 3 USB ports, 1 SD Card slot, an AUX input, and supports bluetooth audio. However, bluetooth audio seems to be coming out mono and i'm not sure why. I've got to pin down the cause and can't attribute it yet to the truck.

Here's the engine bay shot that you asked for

I also took a picture to show the factory spray on bedliner. I'll get a comparison with Project Sierra's Line-X Pro later.

They have moved the position of the backup camera. It is now centered, to give a better view when backing up to hitch a trailer! We've always commented how bad it is that the backup camera in our 2011 is off-center. We're glad they made this change.

Another front end comparison. Although not a direct comparison, overall generational styling change is more rugged and sharper edges.

Awesome! I'm hoping I can get close to that! I'm currently getting around 10 MPG in my Trailblazer SS so anything is a step in the right direction!

Does the driver's visor edge come a little closer to the A Pillar than on the '11?

With my 2011 I have to use multiple buttons to toggle through multiple displays to get information on service interval remaining, tire pressure, trans fluid temp, etc. and it appears that this has not been corrected. Same center console with cup holding section to collect debris and nearly impossible to clean without hauling out a vacuum. If GM is going to put the majority of its attention on the creature comforts and not in significant improvements in fuel econmomy why buy the new trucks? I can upgrade the sound system at a local shop for a lot less money.

For the last twenty years fuel economy has increased for cars by 50% but actually gone down for trucks (real world not the EPA testing fiction). I don't need bragging rights to more tow capacity or faster 0-60 MPH times. I would like to save money each time I stop at the fuel pumps and have to fill the tank.

Even for performance until someone like mrtrailer.com or Car and Driver magazine reports on tests done that follow the SAE J2807 recommended practice, the rest of the verbiage is as helpful as teats on a bull.

What kind of phone? GM has a close affiliation with Apple, so I hope it's not an iPhone that you're having the Bluetoof issues with... ;) My guess it's an Android, but I could be wrong. Even as cool as they are, Android does have a LOT of problems with so many things.

The newer displays are much easier to navigate, but they have to balance a fine line between usability/readability/and tons of information. No correction needed in this area IMHO.

Pretty good so far.

Did they fix the "sounds like the passenger back window is down" noise?

But main question is - With what you know of it right now, would YOU go out and buy one? We always hear "Never buy the first year of a new style". It looks good, some good reviews, but would you spend $40K on one right now?

Center arm rest doesn't look comfortable. Don't like the center cut out, elbow would always try to slide down into it. I like the solid cover like in my 2010.

Thanks

Wow did they rip off Ford on the instrument cluster or what? Looks exactly like the new F-150 gauges. Exact same layout too, with the fancy computer screen in between.

Just gave me an idea - might install my power inverter permanently in my truck somewhere ... maybe ....

$40 grand ... OUCH ... Maybe I'll grab a '14 in '34 .. if there's any left by then. A camshaft and a Blackbear tune will have my '07 matching that performance for 1/100th the cost. Tranny work done at PATC in LA, and presto - I've got a new truck, minus insurance increases, sales taxes, & higher annual excise taxes.

Will be a nice ride for those who think it's worth it though. :chevy:

.... We always hear "Never buy the first year of a new style". ....

I would agree with that statement. My '07 had (and STILL has ...) more squeaks and rattles in the interior than my '94 K1500 did with 266,000 miles!! That extended cab design with no center support pillar was a poor idea. I would imagine they changed that in this new one. I can't imagine what my truck will sound like if it ever makes it to 266k! You'll hear me coming for 10 miles!

Don't know if my problems were related to the design or not, but I had to do lower ball joints at 38k miles. At 58k now, my uppers are starting to go. Brakes pulsated right off the showroom floor with 38 miles on the clock. I only just recently fixed that by trashing the OEM rotors for EBC's.

I also hope they didn't go back to that stupid disc/drum hat rear disc brake getup they used to have. What a piece of engineering that was. LOVE the drum in the '07 - very easy to work on ... when you have the correct tools.

Driveline has had lash in it since day one as well. If I'm light footed when the tranny shifts to 2nd, I get a fairly loud CLUNK.

The latest is my squawking rear suspension. Sounds like a 40 year old truck, creaking whenever the suspension moves when you shift from D to reverse, or are traversing uneven ground. I just tell people that's what you get for $30K when they laugh and make comments. Wonder what you get for $40k?? :)

I don't get that in my '11, so probably it's fixed.

Yes, the windows are all fixed.. all new design and door lay out, triple sealed.

As for new body style trucks... My NBS 2007 was perfect. So it's kinda luck of the draw.

As for the price... if you don't want to pay 40K ( closer to 50K loaded) DON'T do it. No one is forcing you.. drive your old truck until the wheels fall off. Or just wait and pay 60K for a new body style 2021 when they come out in 7 years. I can assure you the prices aren't going to get cheaper. Supply and demand fellows... If you can't afford it, the next guy can....GM isn't worry about it as long as Dodge and Ford prices stay in line with them...

Posted

Then they don't need my support, nor the support of anyone else I know. Good luck to 'em.

Well aware of what I need .. and what I WANT. I don't NEED or WANT a '14 .. or the bills associated with. Just my .02. If you love life in debt, be my guest! That's what makes this country so great. Freedom of choice. At least for now anyway ....

I'm fully aware that there's enough people willing to shell out 5 large for a $6,000 truck - in reality, that's close to all it's worth in metals, plastics, wiring, and electronics (excluding labor of course - that's 90% of what you pay for!). Think about it. I know ... I know ... it's not just GM ... they ALL do it. Some just worse than others ...

Just shows that I'm in the wrong line of business! :dunno:

OK rant over. I want to see some dyno charts of this thing!

Hi everyone. Sorry for the drop off of responses. I was caught up driving the new 2014 Corvette Stingray over the past few days.

But back to the Silverado....

Can't remember but will check on this today for you.

Galaxy S4, so yeah.. it's Android 4.2.2. I'm going to try it on my Android 4.3 Nexus and my wife's 4.1 S3 and see if there is any difference. I'll also try to get an iPhone to test if I can.

- This generation is substantially quieter than the 2013 and prior models.

- If I could afford one, yes I would buy it. The sticker on this 2014 is still cheaper than the sticker was on our 2011 Sierra extended cab.

- The arm rest isn't an issue for me. I actually like the bench/console quite a bit more than the bucket/console on our Sierra. More places to store stuff and lots of little cubby holes.
