issue Bad Wind Noise

I would hear wind coming through the front passenger door/window. Mainly, I would hear it when on the highway going 70mph. I took it to the dealer, they adjusted the weatherstrip and that seemed to fix the problem. Granted, its only been 4 days,but it seemed to work!

I too have a 2014 gmc Sierra all terrain and I am having wind noise in the front passenger door. I live in windy north Dakota and it isn't anything new to have a side wind but it is only on the passenger door. If it was only side winds I would hear it on return trips where the wind would be on the opposite side. The passenger door seems to push out when the noise is present and can be pulled in to lessen noise. The door is closed completely but almost seems like it needs adjustment. Has anyone found a way to adjust this to solve their issue?

my 2014 silverado crew cab "had" been real quiet at highway speeds 65-70-75+ but don't get that much wind here in the Phoenix area, then the other day was going into a pretty good head wind probably 35+ and the noise on the passenger side door was incredible thought I had left the door partially open but was not getting an indicator of open door, when I stopped I confirmed it was closed completely, the noise sounded like some one had opened a high pressure air cylinder each gust of wind made the noise even louder, I had my a/c on high with outside air, when I switched to recirc air the noise died down some and when I turned the a/c off or put it on real low fan speed noise was gone, but that is not real practical when it is 110 here in the valley!! first time I had that occur but the wind noise was almost deafening, strange thing is I was west bound as the road angled to southbound where it was more of a cross wind the noise was gone?? add that to my list of things for the dealer to look at.

Man now that we are in our monsoon season with wind/dust etc. the wind noise is terrible on the right passenger front door. Started looking at the truck yesterday after a heck of a dust storm the night before with wind noise on that right front door. Noticed something interesting the left front drivers door is pulled in tight behind the front left pillar by maybe a 1/32 -1/16 of an inch the right passenger door actually sticks out over a 1/16 of an inch above that right front pillar, basically if you run your finger over the front left pillar it drops down to the door the right side you finger jumps up over the door, right up on the front part of the door up to the top where it goes horizontal, thinking it is grabbing air and forcing it into the cab with the terrible wind noise, sure hope the dealer can adjust that door to pull it in tight?

Had written up the right front door on the crew cab for wind noise twice, first time dealer said they could not duplicate problem with (some sensor they use to detect door leaks?) so it did not get fixed. I wrote it up again this time and I am happy to report they apparerently fixed it, the replaced both door hinges on the right door which has pulled the door in behind the pillar (like the left door is) and been in several windy situations and for now there is no howling wind noise coming in that right front passengers door

Aznative, I see where your dealer service tech replaced both door hinges. What was the p/n on your work order for the hinges? I ask because there is a bulletin "#PI1221: Excessive wind noise from front side door glass area " and one primary factor, per GM, is "Improper front side door fit to roof" and the suggested fix is "to replace the two door side upper hinge bolts" The hinge service bolt p/n is 11561763.

There is a caution: "Do NOT touch the body side hinge bolts or the door side lower hinge, lower bolt."

The bulletin has pictures and gives the dimensions that the door may be out of position with the body. Your service tech should print you a copy of this bulletin if you ask. The second fix is to replace the weatherstripping.

Getting the same wind noise coming in. Ive this issue before on another vehicle I had in which the dealer stated they adjusted the doors and seemed to fix the problems. Now I have no idea what adjusting doors mean but sounds like my windows on my 14 sierra aren't sealed all the way. Air is creeping through.

Look I got a 2008 z06 and before that had a 01 camaro ss and 04 z06 so I been around the quality from gm stuff before but I'm really disappointed in the issues so far in my less then 1 month old truck. Don't get me wrong i love this truck but I was on the fence about the dodge and now thinking maybe I should have thought harder. Having issues like this on something so brand new is disheartening and leaves you wondering hat about 2-3 years from now ? Will it hold up

I finally checked work order and yes they just replaced the hinge bolts, the wind noise is gone and the front right door is in behind the front right pillar now instead of being out slightly where it grabbed the wind and made the terrible noise.

Seems like every problem I have with this truck they can not fix the first time then a service bulletin comes out and then they fix it. Still have other issues but my dealer is slowly working their way through service bulletins and advisories to fix most of the problems

I have a 2015 with 2200 miles 4 times to the dealer still have wind noise. Yesterday I was doing 75 on the highway and every time you hit a bump the door would come off the seal. I can put my finger in the door gap between the door and body. A little over a 1/2 inch. The passenger side is less than 1/4 inch gap. New seals, new mirrors, new mirror seals. The gap is way to big, for the seal to work. I can hit the door with my knee and cause the door to leak. Keep this up and water will come in at the car wash. GM said this was a improved design? Not happy at all with the quality of the new truck.

High sticker prices on these trucks give you an illusion that you are buying a quality product. Unfortunately, it is only an illusion. A quality product must have a good design, and sufficient manufacturing quality control at all stages of assembly to properly implement that design. If either one of these is compromised, you get a much less than ideal product. It seems that GM dropped the ball in both of these areas.

About the wind noise: The door seal (weatherstripping) must be sufficiently compressed by the closed door for the seal to be effective. Sometimes adjusting the door lock striker further in may solve the problem.

I have been having the same problem in my 2014 silverado, gm dealer has replaced all weather strips around rear passenger door but the noise is still there, they have also tried moving the striker plate on the door without any luck yet, its driving me Crazy!!!!

Check if there is any play in the upper door hinge by trying to move the open door up and down. I have seen this problem on older trucks where the upper door hinge pin bushings are completely worn out and the upper part of the door, when closed, will not compress the weather stripping enough to stop the wind noise. In this case the problem is obvious and easy to fix. A new truck should not have worn out hinges. However, the pin bushings may be missing in the hinges because GM quality control has slipped significantly in the last few years and the hinges are made either in China or Mexico.
