Radio Reception Issues

If GM tells there customers "we are working on it" this is as good as saying we have a problem!

GM values short term no issue no fix over long term loyal customers!

This is a very bad business decision for long term....!

GM knows there is a fm signal issue with their infotainment unit, there will be a fix soon for 2015, but not for the 2014 owners.

This radio issue will get GM in trouble soon, as folks still want and still listen to fm alot.

My radios signal is so bad I can't stand to listen to it, static, stereo to mono cycling, and radio volume up and down as signal improves sometimes.

BTW, the 2015's are already out, and if they have the same problem, it's already May 2014 (my truck is a 2014 - two months old) and someone at GM still doesn't know how to get HD FM radio and Sirius radios to work correctly? That seems pretty pathetic to me. Cut the crap GM. I would even consider paying for a replacement on my 2014 radio(s) if there was one that would work, just make it available please. I will be sure to tell everyone about the weak radios in my brand new 53K pickup truck if they don't step up to the plate soon with a real fix. This is a good place to start. And I will not be a guinea pig for their experiments behind the dashboard of my new truck either. I'll wait for a real proven fix for my 2014, and it better happen soon.

some of you act like GM designed and built the radio module themselves, that is not the case. Reason you get the "works as designed" is because that the dealer help line, not the engineers I have been working with.

I am sure GM is doing everything they can with the vendor right now, problem is the radio issue is not as pronounced in some areas as it is in others. I noticed on mine when I am out away from the city the reception is better and the once I get into the city the mono/stereo/HD issues happen more. Hopefully the vendor can figure out what is wrong and either come up with a fix or make a replacement stereo.

I have the double cab and the 8 inch screen. My am works and fm too. However, my HD is the problem. My Kenwood in my last truck worked great. So this HD issue is A GM problem. We did not want to pay so much for this truck and hear we are working on it. I took my dealer. He says it is up to specs. So I said to the service have the tech take a ride with me. He says he can't let him go. Is that service when you pay $40,000 plus

It will be fixed in time. Just not fast enough for all of ya, but it will be fixed. <sigh> I'd be pissed as well if I were in your shoes.

Well I got some news today, GM is testing a fix that is showing promise to fix the mono/stereo/HD switching issues. Said they are going through the validation phase right now and once they are sure it works they will release the software update. They said I may even get to be the first guinea pig to test it out once they release the update.

I noticed today that when i turn on my fog lights my reception gets staticy, turn lights off it clears up.

anyone else notice anything that sounds like a grounding issue

I don't listen to AM/FM, but when I first got the truck I had an issue with XM intermittently going out and staying out for about 10 minutes or so before coming back on. This was with the XM/OnStar antenna having a clear view of the sky too. Haven't had the issue in over a month though, so I think I'm good.

The question I have is, why is GM working with some customers, and treating others like they're the only one with a problem? They wouldn't even acknowledge I had an issue, when it's obvious several owners have the same problem.

I suspect the problem is not GM but the dealers and the fact they don't want to chase something they know they cant fix.

My dealer stated that Gm said that they have not had concerns about FM radio problems, that my problem is normal for the radio. GM told me that they are working on the problem but it will take time to correct( that was last year). Have heard nothing from dealer or GM. I believe that they sold the vehicle, got their profit, and since it is not a safety concern they just don't care. I hate to be negative but the facts speak for them selfs.

Todd (TJay74) is the only one on this forum (and silveradosierra.com) that I have seen get any real progress. He is working with the engineers after writing emails to the GM Execs about the issues and the engineers observed the issue. For a lot of reasons, this will take time so try not to let it get you down. I have real good dealer service and they said they just don't know what to do. Their tech support center was not much help either, so I just decided to wait to see what Todd can find out. I agree that I wish GM would just own up to the issue and perhaps they will when they know how to fix it. Remember, not everyone is having issues or even the same issue.

It takes time to get a fix in place, I also went a more unorthodox route after the dealers gave me the same "operating as designed" response. The engineers have been very receptive and where honest in the fact they have nothing to do with the TAC line the dealers use. The engineers told me they knew/know about the issue and don't know why the dealers are telling people GM knows nothing about it.

TJay74 I appreciate all that you have done, I have been having this problem since I bought my truck in September. All I am asking of GM and the dealer is to admit that there is a problem and that they will repair it. Either the dealer is not being truthful with me or GM is not being truthful with the dealer. Sad thing is except for the audio system I like my truck.

Believe me I understand and know the frustrations it has caused. I am hopeful that the engineers I am working with will have the validation testing done soon and then the update rolled out to correct the issues. I am with you, the only issue I've had with the truck is the radio reception.

    • This video may not be the exact content for the joke thread but its a lot of laughs so here it is, I've only watched a portion of it so far but if anyone is looking for some light hearted good soap box driving action, its here. As a note in the upper left of the screen it shows the number out of 100 to refer back to any particular vehicle for comment !.    https://www.facebook.com/reel/1351928276956715
    • Did have to make 1 modification because of the WeatherTech rear mud flaps and that was needing 3 longer screws than what came with the install package. 😄
    • Picked up the liners yesterday. Installed passenger side WITHOUT any modifications. All mounting holes lined up perfectly. Rain is interfering today with drivers side. Very Happy! Will add pics when finished
    • As a matter of amusement I’ll leave this conversation with this. Do you beat the government average fuel estimate? Statistics are a guide to me. Not a rule. Someone once said I have to have the last word. If true and possible may be. I’ll blame that on working in a family business.
    • That is a fair point, and I agree that trying to log “everything in the truck” would be the wrong direction.   There are a lot of modules and a lot of traffic. If the product became a full-truck datalogger, the amount of data would get huge very quickly, and most owners would never use it.   I think the first useful version would need to be narrow: - powertrain-side event evidence - selected high-value parameters - communication / voltage / reset events - pre/post event window - short report first, raw log only as backup   One distinction I should make is between active OBD/PID polling and passive bus capture. If you are polling PIDs through OBD, then yes: the more parameters you request, the lower the effective sample rate becomes, and you are adding diagnostic traffic to a vehicle that is already busy running itself. With passive CAN capture, the recorder is not asking all the modules for data. It is listening to traffic that is already on the bus. So it does not consume vehicle bus bandwidth in the same way that a scan tool polling hundreds of PIDs would. But your point still applies in a different way.   Even if passive capture does not add bus traffic, the recorder still has limits: - processing rate - storage rate - timestamp accuracy - decoder workload - event filtering - report size - user attention span   So the answer cannot be “log everything and let the user figure it out.” The product would need to store enough raw evidence to be useful, but only decode, graph, and present the important parts around the event.   A practical report should probably show: - what triggered the capture - how much pre/post data was preserved - which selected parameters changed - how those values compared to baseline - whether the same pattern happened before - whether any voltage, reset, bus-off, lost-message, or communication fault occurred - selected graphs around the event - raw data only as supporting evidence   So I agree with you. More data is not automatically better. The real product is the reduction from raw data into a useful event report.
