it is obvious that the radio HD Problem will never be right. So since I paid for and did not get what was advertised. I think it is only fair to be made whole again. He'll even GM is dropping HD. So GM if your reading ,my demands are simple; Either replace the head unit of one of my choosing or credit me say 2,000 dollars of genuine GM accessories and I will replace the head unit. And no I do not wantXm for the life of my 5year ex-warranty. I would thinkGM would come out better on the latter.

Update. After having the latest hardware installed with the software update here is what I found. No changed in HD radio reception, still switches back to regular FM with static and background noise. Still spends a lot of time acquiring HD signal. Regular FM reception has improved a little. Reception in my wife's 4runner is much better as was the reception in my 2010 Silverado which I traded. The upgrades have improved the radio reception in my truck on regular FM. As I stated in an earlier post I believe the reason GM is dropping the HD radio in the 2015 trucks is that at this time they do not have a solution to the reception problem. At least GM and my dealer made an effort to fix the problem in my truck.

dmd did you happen to mention about replacing antenna cable?

Have left message at dealer, I wonder if all Sierra/Silverado trucks use same antenna cable with different radios?

I just got my truck on saturday and I was wondering why I couldn't see any of the popular stations in my area that I got reception for in my 1996 k1500... I apologize for not reading 45 pages (lol...), but has a tsb/recall been issued?

Thanks!

Don't want to read 45 pages? Well, here's a brief summary...

There are reception issues with the 2014 GM trucks...some worse than others...HD does not lock in and stay in consistently...cannot permanently turn off HD...non HD FM fades in and out...one of our members shared his work with GM engineers to solve the issues...resulted in a software update and new hardware module for pre Dec '13...quote: Had the PI 1288 update done to my early build (7-13) silverado no better reception but when you shut off the HD it will stay off when changing stations.

So here we are...no real fix...GM has decided no HD in 2015 models. That's it...want more info, read the thread. :)

dmd, let us know what you find out from the dealer. It's interesting that the creator of HD radio has come out and said they know the problem with the reception is in the antenna co-axle cable, but yet no one has had this replaced yet. It'd be interesting to know if an aftermarket cable would fix this problem

Interesting, IS there a link to the mfg stating such?

Don't believe so, but as for the info you might want to get in touch with davis1. He talked to the Inbiquity guy. Post 226 on page 16.

I spoke at length to 2 guys at ibiquity in new jersey. they gave me to "the guy" in the detroit area. they all held the line that it was the cable, and that gm was aware. They said it would be awhile to get gm aboard to fix it. then I see that tj was going a different route and seemed to be getting some traction,so i did not bother the hd guys again. So like 3-1/2 months ago I had enough of the bs from gm and the dealer and just dumped the truck. so it seemed kind of pointless to pursue any further for me. I am still hanging around as I had a few things to sell that I took before the trade. I still have a Du-Ha underseat storage box to fit the '14 crew cab it's black and like new all separator pcs. are still in the bag. It goes with all interior colors. I am near Trenton,NJ if any one is interested lists out at $199, first $125 cash gets it.Sorry for the shameless plug

So did you get another truck? Brand?

I just got my truck a few weeks ago. Occasionally I notice the HD signal cuts out and but then returns within a second or two. Other than that, I haven't noticed any radio receptions issues.

But I also wanted to mention the car I owned before this had the Ford Navigation radio with HD and the HD signal on that radio would also cut out while driving and then return a second or two later. It just depends on what station you're listening to. My brother's F150 with navigation/HD radio also does it too. So maybe it is a more widespread problem with the HD radio/signals?

My F.M. HD radio works fine and I live in Houston, TX. My biggest complaint in the A.M radio reception. The Bose speakers, only in the front dash, have this HORRIBLE crackle noise when listening to a.m radio. You can hear it on F.M but it's not as distinguishable. I have taken it in 3x and no fix yet. I plan on taking it in next week to get one of the recalls fixed and oil change.

I do plan on recording the horrible crackling audio on my phone and then also recording my $25.00 shower radio which has a.m radio. There is a huge difference as my shower radio is crystal clear. I plan on FedEx the audio tape to 5 different GM executives. Tell them to put the cd in their computer and listen....

    • I tried tapping it.  This might sound like a dumb question, you should feel vibration or some type of noise when it turns on? Can someone please verify? Thank you all!
    • I feel better now for my own view point and actions or lack there of towards the dealership service theme reading your post and others. GM corporate is who offers the two free oil changes on the HD trucks and I bought my truck in Feb of 2025 and those oil change offers run out within 2 years I believe and I highly doubt I will be using either one of them. I had asked if I could officially give those free services to another customer ( a friend ) and they said no, its all a GM corporate thing based on the vehicle in question. What that service advisor did however was go into a little story about how such and such customer was denied engine warranty because he had done his own oil changes because then they are not documented ... you see where that goes and so an employee playing the game of scaring the customer into having the service work done there most certainly triggered my thought process. At a later date I did talk to the person who handles warranty claims at the dealership and she said to be sure to document the oil changes and keep receipts for the oil and filter ( coped the receipts from cases of Mobil oil and case of filters I bought from them ) and the vehicles VIN, the date of service, mileage etc and staple that together as a record I would give them if that was ever needed and I keep my own log book for services for each vehicle as well. Oh and about 8 months after I bought the truck the dealer starts calling me to offer a maintenance service since they haven't seen my vehicle show up on their system ... for the mere fee of 300.00 Canadian to change the oil and rotate the tires and a few other minor checks and I declined the offer, I get the call again a couple of months later for the same thing and she could tell I was not interested and she asked if they should take my name off the call list and I said yes, do that !.    By the way did you happen to keep your factory oil filter to open it up and see the surprises inside as I expect some will show up as per the odd little sliver of metal shaving and particles that the filter does trap along with bits of grey silicone sealer that come off of the inside edge of mating surfaces. I have cut open every filter so far on my truck although few miles but have changed the oil often and the second filter was vastly better with very little of anything, that first filter was the unsettling one as I expected it would be.
    • I get why they do this…but man…not ideal. I only extract on inboard boat engines because the drains are buried and even then I hate it because it’s easy to leave a quart behind with that method.   They should market it as an “oil refresh” not oil change!
    • I only get oil changed where I can watch. Valvoline pulls through the dipstick into a see thru glass. When done they show me the dipstick. About the only way they can mess up is using the wrong oil. But that secret wouldn’t stay secret long. Honda uses TQ wrenches on everything. You can watch through a plate glass window. Discount tires does that with tires. Trust but verify.
    • I would not argue that with you. It would be pointless to argue against the truth and you speak the truth.    My question and in fact the entire point of this thread is an exploration into the levers of wear which happens no matter how well we maintain our powertrains.    Some of these levers we exert a good deal of influence over which can and do result is lower wear, longer powertrain life. Some others we are sort of stuck with.    An engine is typically done when the ring to bore seal no longer is able to do the job effectively. Normally the first thing to go in a engine otherwise well maintained and adult driven is this seal.    Looking into the means, methods, products and attitudes that influence the rate of wear seems a worthwhile inquiry to me.
