Replacing 2.0 HMI module with 2.5 HMI module to add CarPlay/Android Auto to 2014-2015 Silverado

It may. I've seen it a few times on various vehicles but I've never seen one persist through a full drive AND sleep cycle

From reading all 76 pages I’d assume it’s the 2.0. But I’m confused because my truck has the capability of playing movies on my screen from a usb drive?

Don’t need the dev menu for that it’s a 2.0 . The movies from usb (in park) was removed on 2017+ applications

So I just bought a 15 silvy yesterday.  Was excited to have nav..... wrong... I hit the nav button and only a compass pops up.  Guess it's actually onstar nav and I'm not buying that subscription. Also does not have the projection feature.

 

What's the cheapest way to either, A.. get google maps on the screen or B... get my android phone to project google maps on the screen.  Not looking to break the bank. Prob have to go aftermarket?

Yep, do the 2.5 HMI/radio module upgrade for android auto / car play. I did that on my 2015 and very worth it. I do still have factory nav but used AA about 90% of the time.

So really for a minimum install you need the hmi, radio and usb hub. You can find all of the details here:

Most of our customers that choose to supply their own hardware are out the door under $400 generally around $350 or so average.

My truck has the usb hub already in the jump seat. So I just need the 2.5 module and send it to be programmed to my vin?

 

If I were to buy a used 2.5 module, is there a particular part number I should be looking for?

 

Do I need a new radio module too?

I have one of those awesome 2016 Silverado’s that has the 2.0 hmi. I have the XM/HD radio and the proper usb connector. WAMS has my 2.5 hmi that I ordered off eBay as we speak. Can’t wait to get this installed and fingers crossed everything goes well. I’m always nervous about things that seem so easy when the dealer said it would be a huge undertaking.

I know things are strange all over the world right now, but I got my new hmi installed and everything works great full function and now have CP and AA for about $150.

I recently bought a 2016 Sierra - the dealer assured me that all 2016's came with CarPlay- when I took deliver I plugged my phone in - NO CARPLAY -- Even the GM at the dealer was stumped - found out some 2016's got the old HMI module -(GM ran out of the new ones) They were going to make it right, I went to Best Buy and found an aftermarket system for $620 installed (adapters etc..). Did research on this site and found WAMS -- I emailed them a couple times - I really couldn't believe it was a easy as described!  Well it was - I ordered the part from them since they use new OEM parts -- arrived yesterday took 35 mins to install (NOTE: while you have the upper and lower glove boxes off change the cabin air filter) Turned the truck on works perfectly -- Great product WAMS.
