This has happened to my A8 2x now. The first time - as others have reported here - was when I was in reverse, then went to D and applied a steady bit of gas.

The second time was today. Since it happened the first time, I've learned something... whenever I reverse out of a parking spot, I bring the truck to a complete stop, put it in D, then slowly accelerate for the first 10-15 yards. Today, I could sense the truck was going to "clunk" as I was backing out of a parking spot, but then putting it back into D to pull in more straight to park. I let off the gas and it did not clunk as hard at all. I could actually FEEL the transmission slipping a bit, so I didn't apply the gas, then it found the gear.

Conclusion... the more I come to complete stops before shifting, then letting the truck sit for 1-2 seconds in D before moving forward, the less of these occurrences I have.

My company has 3 at4's and an slt and they all do this.  I got the same run around from dealer, "couldn't duplicate it, here is a bulletin saying it's normal".  Pretty disappointing.

Glad to find this post, describes very well the same issues i’m experiencing. What is very disappointing is there is no fix.  GM engineers need to get their thinking hats on and find a solution.

Good info and all, but we shouldn't have to do this. With the delay mine has, if i floored it without giveing it 2 secs fully stopped in drive the trans would prob drop out. You could put my ram in drive with it still rolling back ever so slightly and it would go just fine. I just cant understand why GM cant fix this.

I am having the same issue.

The dealer keeps telling me it is operating as designed

it clearly isn’t. Hesitation, hard shift, surge forward, sometimes almost dies at idle and sounds like it misses in the exhaust on occasional start up.

I stomp it when coming from reverse to forward.  Might as well rip the rear end out before warranty runs out.....lol

Anyone else experiencing a hard shift or hesitation of the engine when you first hit the gas. For example, I start the truck, reverse out of the driveway, put the car in drive and when I hit the gas, the truck goes toward and then i feel the truck completely stop for a second (hesitation) and then it continues forward, I only expierence this when I’m going from reverse to forward.  I come to a complete stop and do not shift to drive when moving backwards still. ?

Mine just did the same thing today and has done it before. just add it to the list of issues with this thing. I'm just happy when it starts up the first time I push the button.

Same issue with my 19 SLT, 5.3 8 speed, about 3-4 times weekly on first driving off...dealer kept over night and guess what... couldn't duplicate customers issue, operating normal, sucks, mine also does it after reversing and going to drive sometimes, after its been driven all day,GM has a fix, they will probably shitcan the8 speed and go to 10  speed in most all. the only fix I know is trade it for a ram or ford, or a 6.2, with 10 speed gm but they might have other issues.

Reminds me of a Hurst slam shift. She’ll shift or she’ll blow! Drive it like you stole it.

Not sure if this is the same issue but mine last night I put it in reveres and it kinda slammed I backed up 15 feet put it in drive started to slowly accelerate only made it 10 feet or so forward and it felt like the transmission popped out of gear and my back tires locked up, but it put it back into reverse and was able to move the truck, I tried several more times it did the same thing. Left me stranded, I hopped In it today and is working just fine. Anyone know what this may be?

    • Thanks for response. Leak was right under drivers seat or thereabout.   Had checked by other mechanics and have read other information.   The solution can be a tad complicated and replacing multiple parts And with some.  The issue was still the same.   The brakes do work.   Just that the pedal is softer and goes further down.  But the brakes do work.
    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
