The ride is definitely more firm in this truck compared to my last truck, 2007 Silverado Z71.  Last truck had original shocks in it that were probably quite worn out and helped with the “soft ride”.

I equate the ride in my current truck to perhaps how a 3/4 ton would’ve felt 10-15 years ago.  The rear end does feel “bouncy” hitting bumps at speed.

I’m also running BFG KO2’s that are an LT tire on 20” rims and a leveling kit up front.

I’m sure that doesn’t help with the ride either!

I’m curious as to how this truck will handle my 24’ TT next spring.  My last truck felt very “floaty” while towing, where this one I’m thinking will be more “solid”.

 

What is everyone’s opinion on the Max Tow/NHT suspension and ride quality?

Would Bilstien 5100 improve the day to day ride quality?

 feels ike it has no dampening in stock shock and springs are doing most of work on stock silverados….

 

I may just go this route over kings, idk for my purpose eibachs probably be good fit, kings maybe overkill for me...and don't know how much nicer they would be,.plus eibach is only 20min away and can just go there and have em do it....they have good reviews for daily driver with minor offroad use....

 

what is labor cost generally to have 4 shocks installed.....I could probably do it myself but don't have space

I just recently installed the new Eibachs and they have made a dramatic improvement over the stock front shocks. I already had Rancho adjustable 9000's on the rear for a few months and felt the difference between front and rear on large bumps especially at higher speeds on freeway bridge transitions. The 305/55-20 Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP tires are much heavier and stiffer  (62lbs vs. 41) than stock tires so the front would bounce uncomfortably at times. The new shocks don't do that and feel smoother on smooth roads and a little rougher on bumpier roads, but not too rough. Over driveways and speed bumps they actually feel smoother and the truck doesn't bottom out or bounce up and down. I had and kept on a Superlift 2' leveling kit on front and set the new shocks to the second to the highest setting for a 3" total lift in front. So with the 2 inch rear blocks the truck measures 41" high all around. The truck used to rock side to side if you jiggled the steering  wheel and felt like my old overloaded service van rocking when it did that. that too is gone.

I had 5100’s put on my ‘15 Ford FX4 Lariat. They made a HUGE difference. However; the Ranchos on my TB LT are excellent and feel as well, if not better, than the 5100’s on my Ford. I will not be changing to Bilstiens this time.

It aligned fine and they added some caster according to the results sheet. I'm sure both control arms are somewhat droopy, but I really don't feel any abnormalities in the handling. It's a marked improvement over stock.

I really hope these are released soon.  I loved them on my '18, lots of improvement.  My '19 Trail Boss has larger tires, and after about 13,000 miles it feels like I have a blow front shock.   Ranchos are not great, they could do MUCH better with factory options IMO.

If the 5100s work like the ones I put on my 2014 will loose any ride quality the truck came with. Very happy with the way the truck rides now. Keeping mine stock happy camper here.

All,

 

I reached out to Bilstein for an updated date now that we are into the new year.  Their response.....

 

"We are estimating by the end of 2nd quarter"

 

And the wait continues........

The rear Bilstein B8 5100 shocks are now released.  I just bought a pair and put them on my 2019 Silverado RST Z71.  Made a big difference just having them swapped out on the rear.  I bought Bilstein PN 24-293471. The fronts are not yet available.

does it ride stock height? or are you lifted?

I run stock height.  I believe the PN 24-293471 is good for 0 to +1" on the RST.  If you go to Bilstein's website and look up your truck, it shows PN 24-309516 for a Custom Trail Boss (which has a stock 2" lift), and also says it's good for 0 to +1".  So if your truck is lifted it may be best to contact Bilstein for your best option.

rears have been out for awhile.....lot of kits come with them, I don't think they are any different than 2018 in rear cuz am pretty sure someone has already swapped his out from last gen to new gen

but yeah.....idk wtf takes a company almost 2 years to come out with product.....i think fox too in 2.0 aren't out

    • Conditions for Meeting a Cold Start   The ignition voltage is between 10 and 15 V. The barometric pressure (BARO) is more than 75 kPa. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) at start-up is less than 42°C (108°F). The intake air temperature (IAT) is between 2–32°C (36–90°F). The engine is OFF for greater than 6 hours or the following conditions must be met: The start-up IAT minus start-up ECT are within 12°C (22°F). The start-up ECT minus start-up IAT are within 50°C (90°F). Fuel level is between 25 and 75 %.   Circuit/System Verification Verify that all I/M System Status indicators report YES, and that no I/M Test DTCs are present.If any I/M Test DTCs are set Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. If no I/M Test DTCs are set All OK. Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Set Procedure   Warning: Refer to Road Test Warning. Note: Do NOT touch the accelerator pedal until told to do so. A change in TP Sensor angle or an increase in engine speed may invalidate this portion of the test.   Note: An I/M Test DTC will not be stored or erased from the ECU except at the end of trip processing, which occurs 5 s after ignition OFF.   Ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start listed above. If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, perform the EVAP Service bay test if applicable. Turn OFF all of the accessories; HVAC system, other electrical loads, including aftermarket/add-on equipment, etc., and open the hood.   Set the vehicle parking brake and ensure the vehicle is in park for automatic transmission or neutral for manual transmission.   Start and idle the engine for 2 min.   Close the hood, release the parking brake and Accelerate at part throttle to 72–80 km/h (45–50 mph) with this speed maintained until the engine reaches operating temperature, 8–10 min.   Continue operation under these conditions for an additional 6 min.   Accelerate at part throttle to 90 km/h (55 mph) with this speed maintained for 2 min.   Release the accelerator pedal for at least 10 s. This will allow the vehicle to enter the decel fuel cut off.   Safely stop the vehicle, with the engine in drive for automatic or neutral with the clutch pedal depressed and parking brake applied for manual. Allow the vehicle to idle for 2 min.   Shift the vehicle to park for automatic and neutral for manual. Turn OFF the ignition and exit the vehicle. Do NOT disturb the vehicle for 45 min.   Observe the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Status with a scan tool. All of the I/M System Status indicators should display YES.   If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, turn OFF the ignition, ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start, and repeat steps 6-11 three more times, or until the EVAP I/M System Status indicator transitions to YES. If the indicator continues to display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table to identify the DTCs that did not run.   If any of the I/M System Status indicators display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table for the indicator which did not display YES. The I/M System DTC Table identifies the DTCs associated with each I/M System Status Indicator.   Observe the I/M Test DTC information with a scan tool. Verify there are no I/M Test DTCs present. If an I/M Test DTC is set, diagnose the DTC using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle and refer to Inspection/Maintenance System Check.   Observe the engine DTC information with a scan tool. Verify no DTCs are present. If a DTC is set, diagnose using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. After repairs, perform the Inspection/Maintenance Complete System Set Procedure to verify no further DTCs are set.       Looks like one procedure to me.  Repeated as necessary.
    • My 2020 AT4 6.2 has had the valve spring issue addressed at ~200 miles, front cover/pump replaced at 18k, water pump at 34k and idler pully at 65k.  I would agree with ditching by 100k unless you elect to go with upgraded hardware...say built 10l80 and an lt4 or l8p swap.

    • Chevy needs to do a black regular cab short box SS model with the new 6.6L.  400SS.
