Custom tune, woth the money??

Looking at getting more power/torque out of my 2001 5.3 Sierra. Does a custom tune really help that much to add power/torque for towing? Just trying to spend $$ the right way and not waste it. Looking for real power, not just gimicks.

Real power= 6.2

Next best thing= Custom tune from Blackbearperformance

Yeah but it'd be fun till something broke! lol Seriously though, I just want more towing power. I want to be able to stay at 65 mph while going up grade on the freeway, not looking to win the race! lol Supercharger may be a bit much but they seem so easy to install and tune up.

If you're wanting more towing power, then lower (numerically higher) gears will help.....along with the BB tune

Supercharge and 6.2 almost equal out in price! lol Would love to drop a 6.2/tranny set up in my truck! Since that is not an option due to the piggy bank I'll probably look into the BB tune. Do headers really add power to the engine?? Would you have to run aftermarket exhaust or just install headers and go?

Get an 8.1! lol. Tons of power if you can afford the fuel lol. I just got back from Savannah Ga visting my sister. Put a camper shell on the bed, packed the back full of furniture and luggage, 4 people in the truck, and was pushing 80 mph the whole way there. Saw about 12 mpg +/- for the trip. Had 2 very long grades through the mountains on the way down, truck never did upshift.

+1 on the 8.1...

But really the best thing ive done for the past two 8.1 trucks ive had was an in person blackbear tune,

you will be very happy

If 5K is pushing the bank then go gears and tune maybe a Torque cam with some long tubes. Numerically a lower gear ratio is going to make you truck work less and do more. You can make up HP with gears. Im sure if you look you can find someone with the 5.3/4.10 combo from the factory with a stock set up.

As others have already said, I also think the best thing you could do for the $$ would be re-gear and get tuned. You should be able to get professionally re-geared and BB tuned for under $1,500. If you have some cash left after that, go with the long tube headers and a cam.
