Hey all, first post and hoping this can help out.

 

As many of you know and or finding out, the 24's and up are apparently a new style Firewall Grommet system leading into the truck from behind the battery. But not to worry, this will hopefully be the clearest new how to so far without a youtuber making a video of this.

 

The truck now, instead of having a nipple coming from the firewall grommet on the engine bay side, is now a plastic bezel. The nipple can be located from under the dash still, however, and is still just as easy as an install as before.

 

Pic 1 is from the engine bay. You can see the channel where the wire will exit/enter the truck.

Pic 2 is from inside the truck and what is looks like if you peel the grommet back, which does not need to be done because then you'll need to replace the rubber around the grommet to around the plastic shroud which is not the easiest thing to do.

Just use an exacto #1 and cut a plus from the inside of the truck in the nipple. Pic one shows where the wire will exit.

Pic 3 shows a 4ga wire in it. It fits 4ga wire really well. No sure about 2 or 0... you may have to trim the nipple off then just make the plus/X cut bigger.

 

I also did not need to remove the battery to do any of this. Just work from mid engine with a ladder/step stool. Not the side of the truck.

 

Step 1.

Take out the multifunction power supply converter box and bracket that is located behind the glove box and bolted to the kick panel right underneath the firewall grommet.

The two tabs holding this box in need to be pulled towards you (the rear of the truck) and slid up. They will be blocked by the A/C fan I believe it is, but nevertheless cannot be pulled all the way up enough.

Carefully pull it out. You'll have to finagle it a bit, but the box will come out. This is the only way to access the second 10mm nut that's on the stud holding the bracket in place.

You do not need to remove the wire harness. I didn't.

Remove both 10mm nuts with an extended socket.

 

Step 2.

I used an exacto like #1 blade and sliced a plus sign in the power wire pass through nipple.

 

Step 3.

Electrical tape a long zip tie to the wire.

 

Use a little soapy water or some lubricant (I used just a little petroleum jelly) to slide the power wire through the hole. I went from the inside of the truck and pushed it to the outside (inside the engine bay).

 

Continue install as you would with all the other older amp/power wire install guides out there.

 

...Special Notes...

You may need to remove the plastic cover kickplate that is plastic welded to the floorboard part of the carpet placeholder cover.

I did this by removing the fuse box cover plate then removing the 8mm screws. This allows you to pull the panel backwards and pop out the kickplate. The floorboard part must be pulled upwards. Do not try to separate these two pieces at the seam! They are plastic welded together.

Update on the build.

 

I removed the fuse block (bus bar) above the battery from the truck.

 

Also dremeled out the channel in the plastic to run a KnuKonceptz 4/8 Gauge in Line Mini - ANL fuse holder. I specifically chose to go with this fuse holder because of the way the fuse blocks are made. The metal is carved out at a 90° and drops the fuse down into the block instead of other designs remaining a larger higher mounted fuse. There's also an angle to it, instead of being mounted flat.

I really wanted to go with an automotive inline breaker but couldn't think of a way to mount it nicely and it would most likely take up too much room in the trucks fuse block and I didn't want to dremel the whole thing out. I feel like the amount I demeled was enough, and IMO it will looks nice. 

 

I then drilled a 9/64's hole in the base of where the screws are in the KnuKonceptz block and the screw caps just popped out. Then disassembled the fuse holder.

 

The 9/64's holes are a perfect size for the screws to mount in the trucks fuse block channel. The trucks fuse block is made out of a plastic that you can thread these screws into and they then will tightly be held in place to then screw in the KnuKonceptz fuse holder blocks. This will also act as a thread lock tight somewhat and help captive the screws from backing out in the future. (that's the hope anyway)

You can see what the screws look like from underneath and they will be out of the way from interfering with anything. It's just the plastic covering of the battery down there.

 

The box closes nicely and should be a very tighty install.

More finished shots.

 

On the last picture you can see the wire looped a little high. That will be adjusted tomorrow when I get some sunlight to work and install the crimp sleeves. But I wanted to make sure I had plenty of wire. The end result will look nice like it it stock. I like the clean looks and not the aftermarket wires all over the place.

very nice work and clean install! I am running the factory bose radio and it's good enough to not bother with aftermarket speakers but I did replace the useless speakers in the rear door with the leftover 6.75" speakers I had from my 2014 silverado. I ran a similar path on the fuse panel for my 1/0 gauge wire that feeds from my 370A mechman alternator but I didn't fuse it and I added the 1/0 gauge ground wire from the alternator to my negative battery load sensor at the battery and it works fine. The voltage initially would fluctuate since this alternator can work at a higher rate to recover the voltage so initially my voltage would bounce up and down a ton but it's since stabilized and rarely goes to float at 12.5v of power.

 

My only mistake is I accidentally snapped one of the little retaining tabs that holds the battery fuse panel cover down but it works fine and if worse comes to worse i'll look at a new cover from a junkyard or something but it's not a concern at all for me.

I picked up my new 2024 Chevy Silverado RST a few weeks back after trading my 2020 RST in and immediately bought the Kicker sub/amp and did not fully read the instructions and never saw the note about cutting a cross in the pass through area of grommet so needless to say after 1.5 hours of scratching my head and telling my son there is no way this wire is going through there I cut a cross in it...then saw the note 10 minutes later.  I see the Kicker instructions talk about holding the grommet in place during the pull through but nothing about what to do if you actually did it.  My question is my grommet pulled away from the firewall inside the truck on the bottom half.  I see no way this thing actually snaps or goes around the very short section of the plastic adapter the main wiring harness is going through so I just pushed it back against the firewall and pushed it in the center around the main wiring harness all the way around to get it flush again.  I see you pulled yours away on the bottom half as well.  Was yours able to actually seat into a groove or is it just pressed against the firewall the best you could?  It doesn't give me much confidence that it would actually block fluids or smoke from coming in from inside the engine compartment.  I researched all I could but only get videos and articles on how to run the wires and where.  I may put some black rtv sealent in the plastic channel from the engine compartment side where you run the wire through as extra precaution.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I don't see any way to get this out without removing the wiring harness from the connection. Maybe it's just me but.... It's extremely tight and I'd have to pull on the wires to the point of uncomfortability

I can't get the multifunction power supply converter box out.  Can you share any additional details on how to remove this converter so I can get to the nut to remove the bracket?  If I disconnect the little latches in the front and put that cover up, it doesn't go up far enough to pull the converter box out.  I am afraid I am going to mess something up.

    • Can anyone explain why the oil pressure runs higher after the DFM is shut off?  just installed the Pulsar Lt.
    • Thanks!  I figured as such; GM and other manufacturers have used standard parts and harnesses across trim levels and such for decades.  I pulled the blank accessory cover off of my commuter van (a 2016 or so Chevy 15-passenger) years ago and found the plug for a USB outlet.  It wasn't connected to anything, though (I tried swapping in an outlet from another van).  I was a GM Tech years ago (late-90s) and was pretty familiar with my 2006.  I might be wrong, but I view newer vehicles (pretty much anything made in the past 20 years) as being a lot more plug and play.  Meaning, more unused wires and plugs unless you have the Mack Daddy of vehicles.    
    • not all plugs will be used.  gm uses more generic harnesses that support most/all options, and if your truck doesn't have a specfiic option, the plug won't be used (commonly will have a dummy insert in the plug , or it'll be taped up, but some may just be left as is).  But it's sldo possible some p.o. has installed the wrong/cheaper parts that aren't correct for your vehicle...
    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.
