Thanks Silverado-Hareek, I guess it may be inherent to the truck.. I had a 2007 Jeep Wrangler that did not transmit this much thru the steering wheel. The harmonic is constant and feels like it could put your hand to sleep after several hours. Do these things have steering dampers/shocks?

 

Hmmm ok yeah my vibration is not that severe. If it's making your hand feel like it's going numb, the first thing I would do is get the front end checked out for any loose pieces or parts and get the balance checked on your tires. I'm not sure if there are steering dampers or shocks but I do know the electronic steering system is supposed to counteract road imperfections to reduce the transmission of vibrations to the steering wheel....I don't know if that is done mechanically or electronically within the steering system but I've seen that feature discussed on the forum.

Is this much rubber wearing off onto my driveway normal? This is from the stock Goodyears that came on my truck. I have had it for exactly 2 weeks now. Taking it in tomorrow for second time, for vibration issues. I've never had any tires make this many marks on my driveway, other than the 8 year old trailer tires for my boat...and even those didn't make such dark rubber marks...

You likely have a bad ring gear in the differential. I had the same exact symptoms from 40 to 50 mph (max. @ 45) and gear was way out of tolerances. GM replaced and I'm as smooth as silk since...

Do you mean the transfer case? My truck is a 4x4.

Definitely not normal and this confirms my suspicions and what I've read about the Goodyear SR-A tires...that they wear down quickly and are generally junk tires.

My 2014 has vibration at any speed more noticeable at speeds over 45 ,up hill accelerating, down hill decelerating it's at it's worse. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times with nothing done but road force and balance performed. First two times my truck was not driven a single mile! I have 15 wheel weights on one wheel? My service department says my truck rides as well as half of them on my lot? $42000 for a truck that is suppose to have a vibration and I can't use auto four-wheel drive on snowy roads? In auto four-wheel drive the vibration is 10x as bad. Why?

Yes me. And I can't pinpoint the cause. I suspect the tires are the problem. I noticed it mostly back in the spring and then it went away around June. Since then I haven't had any vibrations at all except for 2 specific instances driving to work in September. The fact that it comes and goes and seems to be related somewhat to the outside temperature has me leaning toward the tires. How long it sits without being driven is possibly affecting it too. The truck drives great otherwise when I don't feel the vibrations in the steering wheel.

 

I will add though in general, with the stiffer suspension on these trucks, I personally feel more of the road than I did in my 2007 Silverado and that's after driving 3 different 2014's that didn't have vibration issues. So while there are vibration problems that people are experiencing, I think the combination of the stiffer suspension and the electronic power steering together transmit road imperfections to the driver and passengers more than the GMT900's did.

 

You can see my truck specs below my avatar. I have Goodyear SR-A tires that came with the truck. As soon as they're ready to be replaced, I'm getting either Michelin AT2's or BFGoodrich T/A KO's.

I don't think it's your tires, I have the same issue with mine (felt more in the accelerator pedal and floorboards though) and when I put michelin LTX M/S2's on it the problem didn't go away.

Edit: I believe the vibration in my truck is being generated by the transmission.

I don't feel anything in the floorboard or accelerator pedal. Only the steering wheel. I do have a minor vibration in the passenger seat and center console but my 2007 did the exact same thing so it's hard to tell if that's even an issue or not. Right now, the only thing I really feel in this truck is the occasional vibration in the steering wheel. I also feel what can be described as back pressure when V4 kicks in. I'm not sure if that's related to the engine or the exhaust but I definitely want to modify my exhaust soon and remove the resonator and the flapper valve.

15LTZZ71, I get what your saying about the accelerator also. The steering wheel and accelerator are not all that bad but it definitely is a harmonic resonance.. I have not seen any solutions anywhere. Something in the driveline would resonate thru the truck. I can't imagine GM does not know or is reluctant to fix these trucks.

I'm also a victim of the dreaded vibration, just as most others describe, 2014 SLT double cab, 20" wheels, 3.42. Dealer first tried the balancing act, replaced one tire, no change in vibration. Never a fan of Continental tires anyway (had tor replace all 4 continentals on a 2009), I went ahead and had four new Michelins installed - still no change in vibration. My truck has been at the dealership since this past Friday, an GM guy was supposed to take a look at it - I got a call today that they are replacing the entire rear end, something about a drilling error in manufacturing allowing the axles to float from side to side and that is what causes the vibration and why it is intermittent - we shall see.......

One of the early birds from this thread and I have kept up with it and all of you. After going through the wringer as many have here including new tranny, drive shaft, 3 sets of new tires, new seat brackets for a sliding seat, I through in the towel 2 weeks ago.

Took my truck to ford dealership where they bought my tx edition for 28k with 26,0000 miles on it, 2wd and traded it in for a 2014 f-150 super crew 4x4 with 17 miles on it for 29k OTD. I am beyond happy that my nightmare is over. The mental hell of being in that truck infuriated me and every time I saw a GM dealership I want to drive right through it. I have owned almost 20 silverados and WAS a loyal customer. WE bailed you out with our money and gave you a second chance. Obv no lesson was learned as GM stills runs a shit business. I know my bitching on here will fall on deaf ears and not changed shit. But I do have enough money to choose what I want to drive. I will never buy from GM again after this. EVER.

 

If any one else is interested, they are cutting the '14 f150's way down ( almost 20k off sticker ).

This being my first ford ever, I am very impressed with the build quality of the truck. I could of waited for the '15 model but was not interested in buying first year redesign. I liked that this was the final year of this style as the kinks were all out. Truck drives night and day better. NO VIBRATION. Even when I put on my BFG 275/65/20 all terrain so's on, no vibration. Transmition has nice firm shifts without the shitty lag that would slip and catch on a daily basis with my shitverado.

 

Go get a good trade number and get out while truck is still relatively new. Shit aint changing boys. You cannot put a price tag on piece of mind.

Wait so you got a new transmission and it still didn't fix it? I believe you are the only one anyone here has heard of that had the transmission replaced and people were speculating the tranny has to be the issue because its the only thing that hasn't been changed yet on any of the un-fixable trucks. That's truly alarming if it's still not the transmission either.

Took my 2014 Lt back to the shop yesterday. They took it for a 6 mile ride with nothing but a teçt 2 in hand took a few snap shots and said that my herts readings was 0 to 10 and ten is the highest level within GM spects. They haven't checked any runouts on anything. I watch every move while my truck is in the shop and no one has ever even looked under my truck. Then I'm told that it is my responsibility to get a GM rep involved that he cannot do this. I have been trying to resolve this for 12000 miles. Does anybody have any ideas about who I need to contact? I have a GM case number but all this has got me is a phone call every Friday at 4pm asking me how my truck is doing for the last 5 weeks!

    • I know when I was looking around last year to see if someone handled Amsoil gear oil to buy at the retail level which of course means full price. I found an independent shop that works a lot on GM/Duramax pickups and they did not bring in the 75W-85 as they just stuck to the 75W-90 for the front and rear as a standard practice for the HD trucks which makes sense anyway for the higher hp/torque diesel and pulling heavy loads in four wheel drive. I haven't changed my diff oils yet but still plan on using the 75W-85 for the front diff as I highly doubt I will be beating on the truck and figured for my use type the bit thinner oil would be to my benefit for the winter for that slightly less drag. Very different weather here all winter vs northern Washington near the coast, that's for sure. 
    • Ok that confirms the extra quart theme they are still going with which must mean they have noted some initial use more so then some engines and probably the bigger factor in all of this probably isn't the engine so much as its the insane distance or OLM that lulls a lot of the driving public into driving their new vehicle off the lot and not even doing one short interval oil change because the manufacturer doesn't say different and if the dealer follows that logic as well. Selling the rarely needing to be serviced concept seems to go over well with the public that wants to get away with as little as possible for dollars spent on the vehicles maintenance and I bet there are 3.0 engines just like other vehicles out there that never have their oil checked by the owner which goes back to why they probably felt the need to add that extra quart to avoid a costly theme.    Speaking of cutting filters open, it was probably over two years ago now that a youtuber who buys vehicles to do longer term reviews and pulls a fifth wheel through the mountains of Colorado on summer trips and that becomes part of the testing. Anyway he had a GM HD with the 6.6 gas and a Ford 250 with the 7.3 gas at the same time and of no surprise the Ford had more power etc but somewhere along the way in the few thousand miles he put on the truck, he changed the oil and was seeing glitter and cut open the filter and yeah, things were not looking spectacular. The truck about that time or soon after seemed down on power compared to what it had been and then threw some engine code, I expect the cam/lifters were failing and so he brought the truck back to the dealer and made some deal to get out of it as he knew it would sit for months waiting on a new engine as they were so backlogged at the time. He kept the GM for some time after that using it exclusively until he sold it after buying his next vehicle to do a review on. Definitely the filter can tell a story when things are starting to go sideways, but it would be a sickening feeling to cut it open and be faced with an ugly mess like that and be running a magnet through the pleats and the oil on the dirty side of the filter and see all the fines sticking to the magnet.    The dealer may have some ideas based on experience as to where that coolant smell is coming from, I would imagine if they can't find it but its smelling they would put dye in it to they could give it a run cycle and use the black light to see where it pops up, if its a hose connection, water pump, rad or even a head gasket etc.
