What are the torque specs for the Ubolts holding the springs to the axles? I heard 78 pounds / foot but would like a confirmation.

78lb's is correct

My truck turned out to be the wheel balance, They showed me videos of them road force balancing them. Two of the wheels were as good as they could get. The machine didn't recommend any more weight and still failed them. They did improve the shake drastically though by redoing them. So I'm going to give it some time and if they are still bad I'm going to call Hankook and see if they will warranty them.

RIng and Pinion made ZERO difference in my truck just got it back Thursday after being in the shop 2 weeks.

Not making me feel warm and cozy inside.

I went to Ram back in 2008. Loved that truck, but I grew up in Chevy's. Just had to go back. Guess I should have stuck with my Ram last year.

Truck goes back in tomorrow for road force which doesn't make sense. Service manager giving us the run around. Saying they can only road force balance again and nothing else they can do. And suggested we call the dealership we bought it from. Asked about gm tech to come in and check it out and try to give us a hard time about that also. So he finally agreed if the rf doesn't fix he he will try to get a tech in. Just in case anyone missed it attached is the write up from gm

Ok, they pulled and balanced the drive shaft this morning, didn't fix it. They are now looking at the ring and pinion. Parts in tomorrow morning to make the changes. They told me it's defiantly something in the rear end that's causing the vibration.

Crazy thing is, I had zero vibration until about 12,000 miles. Then like a switch it started.

Hope they get it close enough by this Friday as I need the truck this weekend.

Very frustrating to pay this much for a vehicle and it's not 100%.

Looked at a Tahoe LTZ yesterday, might have to dump and run if this doesn't get fixed right.

Going from the pickup to the SUV will be like going from the frying pan into the fire! Go check out the "Yukon Cabin Noise" thread in the SUV action of this website....not only do you get vibration but as an added bonus you get the dreaded "boom" sounds, which end up sounding like wind buffeting. Except your windows will be closed. And if you're really lucky, it will be so severe you'll actually feel ear pressure and may even get headaches like some of the folks are experiencing. Then, GM will start by doing the TSB that removes he headliner (from your brand new $80,000 vehicle) so they can re-glue the roof skin to the flimsy struts because the factory glue let go. Then they will try Roadforce balancing a bunch of times.

But, you won't notice the vibration, because the noise is so annoying it's all you will focus on when you drive it. So, I guess you'll have that going for you....

Yea, my Yukon has vibration and cabin noise. I will say that loosening the body mounts, driving it, and re-torquing did reduce the buffeting to the point where I don't feel pressure anymore. But still hear it. And did not improve the vibration at all. Now, the vibration is mainly felt in the steering wheel and it fairly high frequency (buzzy) but the seats do jiggle a fair bit as well especially if there is no one in them. That said, I find a lot on new vehicles do that. Seems like the stiffer chassis and suspensions result in the seats jiggling a fair bit. I don't know if that is connected to the vibration felt in the steering wheel or not.

Just a comment to those who's rear end was replaced and did not see an improvement. My concern is that since all GM is doing is swapping parts, and not telling the dealership or the customer what the root problem is with the ring gear, there is absolutely no way for the dealership to know if the new parts are just as flawed as the ones coming out. Classic definition of insanity - keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result! Not going to happen, GM. If there is a flaw in the ring gear, or the carrier, or the housing, or even the bearings as one poster suggested a while back, then installed the same flawed part, new or not, ain't gonna solve it! Just wasting everyone's time and money.

GM would be better off saying "we don't know the problem, we are working on it, and as soon as we have a fix we will correct your vehicle". At least all this wasted time at the dealership and false hope would go away and be less frustrating. But what do I know...I'm just the lowly customer (with the $80,000 in my pocket). GM is infinitely smarter then me ... they got my money, didn't they!

I think the big problem is that not everyone's vibration is caused by the same thing. Some people it's their tires. Some it's the drive shaft, some it's the body mounts etc. So they need to try each step starting at the cheapest.

Got my truck back today. 3 brand new tires, 2 rear shocks, driveshaft is within tolerance. ZERO Change. Time to call them again in the morning. Attached pic for the write up from gym

Rechecked my truck last night at the 68-75mph range. The roadforce balance with 2 new tires did the job... As others had mentioned, I did try for the 4 new tires but because the truck only had 1000 miles on it, they wouldn't budge....

have only 5k miles on my truck now, rarely drive on the highway, but recently did and felt the vibration at 75mph. I only just felt it in my seat - the console and steering wheel was not shaking. I guess I'll see what my dealer says/does.

I wouldn't be surprised if the problem that most people have is due to the Goodyear SR-A's. When looking at buying tires I noticed the SR-A's always showed up first as the cheapest option. They really are a dirt cheap run of the mill tire. Mine had pieces or rubber sticking out all over the place from the mold they used to make them. I could only imagine how bad they are to balance. If GM would just step up their game and use a better tire I bet there would be a lot less people complaining of vibration.

Got my truck back today. They replaces the last original tire with a new one. Helped very little but vibration still there. Gm tech is going to come down

For the record I went to the dealer this morning to get my truck inspected and have them look at my vibration. My truck has 26k miles and it was the first time me being at th dealer for this particular issue.

Long story short I paid $50 to have my tires rebalanced and that fixed 95% of the vibration. I still get a very very slight vibration on the steering wheel but I'll drive a little more and see if it gets worse.

Dealership said they had great luck with the 2wd by just changing the tires to a different brand. 4wd they haven't had one in the shop, mines the first one. I Called around to the other dealerships and most of the 4wd they think to fix the issues is changing the tires and shocks to a different brand like they had been with the 2wd but there isn't a gm approved shock or tire that they can use.

You're using the blackbear tune correct and with AFM off? Did you remove and re-add afterwards? If so did you notice any vibration difference with factory AFM on vs off?

My tires were recently rebalanced and afterwards for the first time I tried AFM off. My petal vib at freeway speeds seems a little better but I still get the odd slight shakes and vibs randomly it seems. I can't confirm myself if I can tell the difference in vib with AFM off but the dealer said it was causing some of it. I can say that my fuel economy has not changed at all with AFM off which kind of boggles my mind.

    • not all plugs will be used.  gm uses more generic harnesses that support most/all options, and if your truck doesn't have a specfiic option, the plug won't be used (commonly will have a dummy insert in the plug , or it'll be taped up, but some may just be left as is).  But it's sldo possible some p.o. has installed the wrong/cheaper parts that aren't correct for your vehicle...
    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.
    • I always drive in Sport mode. With more driving, I am finding the initial response when accelerating is much quicker now🖕 Lou
    • Is it an optical illusion in the pic or is the truck really squatting that much horribly?
    • My initial introduction was here.  It's hard to believe that I last posted in February 2013, having just deployed to Kyrgyzstan.  Since then, I've retired from the military and the 2006 Sierra SLT Z71 that first brought me to these pages was lost.  I went forward to Afghanistan in March 2013 and did a lot of sitting behind a computer on brigade staff.  Within 18 months of getting back to the States, I was selected for Drill Sergeant duty, after which I moved back to Virginia (my home state and where I served from 2004-2008).  That '06 Sierra did a lot of driving between Louisiana, Georgia, and Virginia, and ended up with nearly 320k miles by 2022.  By then, the registration had been expired for a couple of years, but the pandemic had all but eliminated tickets for such transgressions.  Admittedly too, I usually drove my wife's SUV or son's car the 2-3 times a week I had to report to work.  Teleworking sure was fun while it lasted.   I started my retirement leave four years ago and stored the Sierra at my sister's house.  A big mess was made when her fiancé passed while she was taking care of business out-of-state in late-2024, and his son pretty much mismanaged everything to do with the estate.  Even so, I was assured that my truck was safe... until it wasn't.  I found out that my truck had been scrapped about four months after the son took over everything.  There's nothing I could do; I'm 1000 miles away and it was technically abandoned property since he'd even trespassed my sister from her own house (she had no claim to it as she wasn't married, and the fiancé was the sole owner).     Anyway, today I got my second Sierra.  This is a 2010 SLE 2WB CCSB with a little over 200k miles on it.  It's got the 5.3L I'm familiar with and should handle what I need it for.  Hauling stuff that won't fit in the Transit Connect (yep, I sold out, but that's the wife's vehicle) and towing a few times a year tops.  The price seemed decent, considering how much people sell their trucks for in the Deep South: $4500.  I've seen similar trucks listed for more than double that.  I got it from a coworker who left his tag on until we transfer the title next week (Louisiana requires a notary for transfers), so I've been driving it all day.  The rear speakers don't work, which is one of the things that brought me back to these forums earlier.  I can't say how active I'll be as a poster, but I'll be scouring the archives while I find out every little thing I can about the 2010s and particular nuances/problems with my truck.   It's definitely not a GMC, but I got another Willys Jeep a few months back as well, so I'm almost at the same place I was when I first joined gm-trucks.com.  My old 1960 DJ3A was sold back around 2010 or 2011; my current Jeep is a 1946 CJ2A.  So, I've got a slightly newer GMC and a much older Jeep.  I kind of wish I still had that F-250 I had way back when too.  The Dakota is long gone and was technically my brother's truck, though I had it registered and insured.  The F-250 had to go when my grandmother's house was foreclosed on due to mismanagement around 2012 or so.     Hopefully anyone that made it this far isn't too annoyed.  I tend to be long-winded, but I'll be doing more reading than posting in the coming months.
