Thanks for the detailed responses, guys. Much appreciated. Now I know what to look for. Encouraged to hear it's only a small percentage of trucks that are affected.

And you've come to this conclusion because some guy on the internet toldja so? Sheesh!

Posted

It is. Do you think everyone on planet Earth who bought a 2014, 15 or 16 GM truck is a member on this forum? I know guys who have a shaker that don't even have internet service.

Well, Mcarlo24 said he ASKED 30+ owners and no one said they have vibrations, so right or wrong, his data has nothing to do with this forum.

Well, if some guy on the internet SAID he asked 30+ owners, and they all said there is no issue, then that's good enough for me.

So if one guy on this forum has a vibration and 1000 guys who don't belong to this forum also have vibrations (but we will never know that because they don't belong to this forum) how will that affect his data? As a matter of fact, how did he compile his data? Asking 30+ truck owners? There are MILLIONS of 2014, 15 and 16's out there. What if 25 of his 30 never drove above 75 mph? They might have the vibration and not even know it.

But again, if some guy on the internet says his 30+ truck owners have no issue, then who am I to say otherwise?

WOW, 1 person says they think its 1% of trucks and thats the number you go with?!?!? There have been members who have test driven 12 trucks, and every single one had the vibration to some extent. Every loaned I've had has had it. I personally know 8 other people who are not on this forum who have vibration. Ohh and the shop foreman at the dealer I go to says "they all have it, it's just a matter of how severe" he believes it has to do with a number of things, but that the vibration is the worst on the 20" & 22" rims.

but do what you think is right

The only thing we know for sure, is that some number of people have this problem, just how extensive it is, we may never know. Unless GM acknowledges the issue, finds the cause, and analyzes the percentage of affected trucks (assuming this can be done based on the root cause of the problem), we will likely never know.

I am not saying there isn't a problem, but how far it goes is anyone's guess.

I have mentioned this before, but as far as I know, nobody has followed up on it, so maybe it is time to mention it again.

There is a radio show out of Denver Colorado, called the Tom Martino Troubleshooter show. Tom is a consumer advocate that loves to hear about things like this. In fact, on Fridays his show is more focused on car problems. One of his experts that he frequently has on these shows is the owner of a Chevy dealer in Denver. He also has a couple other automotive experts.

The radio station is KHOW 630 AM. You can listen to his podcasts of past shows by going to the www.khow.com.

If someone anywhere in the greater Denver area (or maybe in any of the surrounding states) with this problem can contact him (email "[email protected]") or 303-627-8466 and explain their story, as well as all the issues and forum posts, you might be able to get greater visibility.

I would, but I am in California, and don't have the problem.

I'm one of those people that have experienced this exact situation. I've test driven five 2015 and 2016 GMC Sierra's and everyone had a bad vibration. I don't know what amount is unreasonable, but I do know that my 7 year old Silverado had a silky smooth ride compared to these new ones. And that scared me out of upgrading, I'm just not going to take a chance on having to fight with the dealership or GM on the vehicle, especially since we don't have lemon laws up here in Alberta. If I had experienced a truck that didn't have an issue, it may be a different story, but I haven't seen one yet.

He probably asked the same guy 30 times... That explains it.

LOL! You said it, not me, it seems you're "out to lunch" alright.

So, can we all agree that the vibration effects between .01% and about 80% or so of trucks? Haha

I'd go with between 1% and 99%

The sad part is there are new people reporting it right here on almost a daily basis. And last time I checked there was more than one truck forum on the internet. I really do hope they fix this, i know trading out isn't a sound financial decision and not everyone can afford to just opt out. But for those of you who know about this is it really worth opting in ?

And from my experience they all vibrate, every single one, even brand new ones right off the carrier. But I haven't driven one since early November so I don't know if the new ones coming off the line are different.

My experience is different. I have 5 close friends and my brother all with K2 trucks and none of our trucks vibrate. GM helped me get out of my first vibrating vehicle. I test drove 5 others and 1 out of the 5 had a vibration but it happened to be on the lot 4 months so I assumed it was the tires.

    • Holy s**t - not much of a parts thrower you say? You BLASTED that thing with the parts cannon!  You'd have been probably $1,000 ahead if you had just brought it to a competent shop rather than shotgunning a bunch of parts it clearly didn't need.   Just FYI - oil additives are really, REALLY good at ONE thing ... and that's emptying your wallet. They're ALL useless gimmicks.   If that has the L94 or L99, then #7 is an AFM cylinder. I'd suspect a failed lifter in that case.   If you leaned on wiring, sensors, and/or connectors while changing the oil, you'll have to check all that to be sure pins didn't get pulled out, connectors broken, etc.. Old wire loom that was barely adequate when new is certainly brittle by year 19 - make sure wires aren't chaffed and shorting out somewhere where you might have leaned. or supported yourself on it.   If your a mechanic, why didn't you just find out what you were missing and troubleshoot from there??  TIMED spark, fuel PSI / injector pulse, air, compression.  Can't make ANY money going the parts cannon route.
    • LOL! Are you joking?? That wax SUCKS! 100% gimmick made to "look" good.    After just TWO winters I had severe surface rusting in patches over 90% of the frame. Only reason it looks great in the pics is because I SATURATED the frame every single fall with used motor oil for 14 of the 16 years I owned it. Otherwise it would've been sent to the crusher 8 years earlier with the speed it was rusting prior!    I sold that POS 3 years ago. Was a gigantic headache the second it rolled off the showroom floor. Brakes pulsated on the TEST DRIVE. Door trim fell off the 1st week! Interior squeaked and rattled, and the drivetrain clunked after 2k miles. 4x4 switch failed shortly after. Front end - ball joints, struts, hub bearings - all failed between 38k-50k. Engine started burning oil at 50k. Rear and and transmission failed before 100k. Nothing but problems, and frustration with the piss-poor engineering designed to make you give up. Well, it worked! Nothing on that truck was easy to remove ... except the wheels. They haven't figured out how to screw that up yet. Give 'em time ...   I won't make that mistake again. EVER.   Such fond memories ... https://postimg.cc/K1qf23tS  https://postimg.cc/gallery/X02z64J  https://postimg.cc/gallery/mHSRXZv  https://postimg.cc/gallery/D4mMRfL
    • Different monitors do their test only under conditions specific to that monitor.  you MIGHT find the drive cycle conditions for the monitor that isn't ready on this site: https://lemon-manuals.la/   If it's not there, then it should be on alldata.com for your truck, but it requires a paid subscription.   And you need to know which specific monitor isn't ready.
    • from another thread   Update...although the truck sometimes seems to idle weird and the transmission shift a little weird, I've driven about 7,000  miles and no issues.   However, the way GM has handled my rental reimbursement, the situation when my truck quit, and the recall in general has led me to this point...I have driven a GM vehicle for the past 46 years and unless I buy a C3 Corvette, this is the last GM vehicle I will ever own.
