I agree, talked at length with service manager about FM reception and antenna wire, I believe dealership is doing all they can but GM does not believe it is a major concern. I would like to find aftermarket antenna cable for truck.

Looks like it is time for some to have a good local custom sound shop have a go at this to see what they can find the problem. I think they can test signal strength at the radio etc...Just a suggestion as it appears GM is not sure what to do.

Not sure if GM is trying to fix the problem.

i agree. All it would take at first would be replacing the antenna and/or antenna cable and see what that does. I guess it is an added expense that gm doesnt want unless they are forced to do it.

I still like the antenna replacement fix as a quick solution, I just haven't gotten around to getting one. Glad I could help!

I replaced my stock antenna with one from advanced auto. The ride to advanced the radio cut in and out of HD every 30 seconds or so. The ride home with the new antenna the radio cut out 5 or 6 times. Its still annoying as hell but better.

It was a universal fit in stock at Advanced Auto, part# cf-rm22b made by metra. By no means would I go running out and buying this antenna. I said it made it better, but the reception is still not what it SHOULD be. I took off the antenna from advanced and am currently trying one I just bought from Napa. I will report back in about an hour once I get the chance to put it on.

The Napa antenna didnt fit, but I did find that they put the oem antenna on with blue rtv. I cleaned up the threads, put the oem antenna on but havent had time to test it.

 

To save everyone some time, I took apart the plastic near the hood and found that the male threaded part, its base and cable that runs to the radio are all one piece. There is no connector from the cable itself to the bottom of the mount that is attached to the threaded male end where the antenna mounts.

 

If indeed this cable is bad you would have to remove the antenna mount and cable assembly as one piece and it looks like a VERY tight fit / difficult job.

I live about 60 miles from oklahoma city. And about 110 from tulsa. Getting good radio signal from both places. I haven't found 1 thing wrong with this truck. Guess its just hit or miss on weather or not your radio working. Sorry so many people are having problems with there radio's.

I live in Guthrie, and I can tell that the this radio is not as good as the one on my 2009 G8. In fact, my previous truck, a 2010 Ram 1500 was better too. So both Holden and Chrysler can make a radio but it seems like my GMC not so much. It did seem that driving down to Lawton it worked great. I don't know if the issue being far enough out that the HD couldn't work made the radio work, but being so close to OKC that it switches makes it not work or not. Also, as someone else mentioned, it seemed to get better reception when the Bluetooth was off on my phone. In any case, it's hit or miss but definitely not as good as my previous radios.

I removed the blue rtv from the threads no change in reception.

Update: Fm worked fine at dealer today so working as normal was the response I got from service writer. They checked everything according to service writer. The truck was moved a total of 1km from the time I brought it in so it was not road tested. Anyway, worked fine for the drive home maybe they tightened something not sure but time will tell. The led issue was also looked at. They involved gm and gave me a case number. said some trucks work and others don't. Service writer said this is the first truck to have a complaint about this. I asked" first at this dealer" and he said no first for gm. I laughed and said this is a well known problem and certainly not the first time gm has heard this. I am in canada by the way.

What is the procedure you are recommending after we have gone our local dealer that is not offering any fix for the poor FM reception? Many of us are very frustrated. We are looking for a fix from GM and would like to follow the correct procedure to raise the awareness of this issue.

Changed out antenna with Rapter universal aw-rmbc, from O'Reilly Auto Parts. It is only 17" long and is made to improve FM reception. Put it on this morning. Early results, HD radio about the same, on weak stations on the upper end of the FM dial it made an improvement, station at 105.9 that was full of static came in clear. Antenna cost $16, will post again when I have more info.

I bought my new truck on Monday February 3rd. Personally, I never clicked this thread before buying. The 1st day driving to work I turned it on our local sports AM station 610am and 790am here in Houston. Both stations were coming in clear but constantly had that "crackle" sound. It is quite annoying, especially for a 45k truck.

 

The FM stations sound good to me, but I do think there is some crackling sounds and not as clear and sharp at my 2005 GMC audio.

 

XM radio comes in loud and clear.... I am digging channel 88 with the NFL Network. I plan on dropping my truck off to get the bedliner and window tint installed. I will be asking my service guy about it. I didn't pay all this money and cant listen to AM radio.

 

Anyone else having issues with their AM stations?

      My centre console USB ports haven’t been working and the one in the glovebox is starting to act up. When I plug my phone into the cord the radio will go black and stop playing, and the CarPlay is inconsistent.   I checked the fuses and they were fine. I changed the USB port out and still nothing. Hoping for some advice on what I should be looking at.

      The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.

      I have four that read by the dash 8 to 10% better than miles/pump calculations and I have one that is spot on.
