Radio Reception Issues

If I remember correctly the window sticker on my truck says "HD RADIO". I paid for HD and expect to get what I paid for. My Silverado has been at the dealer for over a week for radio and seat problems. If HD cannot be fixed and GM wants to remove it or turn it off ,fine. But I fully expect to be compensated one way or another. By GM or the dealer. And NO I do not want a free XM subcription,It sounds like crap. So I wonder what the value of 5 years of HD radio should be worth?

^ Hmmm, this is really making me wonder. Detail things ( not so little a detail to the ones with the radio problem) may indicate deeper than we see problems in GM and in the truck area.

I know my '09 SLT programming and 6 speed trans were so bad I had to get a tune and do not even talk to me about the oil burn fix. Much more than a radio. Try new pistons etc. for size...dang not good...

The loaner '14 I drove for two days was a bummer. I live on country roads with no lighting and the dims on the headlights were way bad, like dangerous in our deer country. High beam pointed to the tree tops. And it had bad wheel balance or something and vibrated like crazy.

You can run but not hide!

Good luck. I thinks it is time to move on for music till you hear of a fix here. You will only be beating yourself up. I for one have gone xm, (no commercials, no news etc.) and to tunes on my cel for music. Am I missing something on HD radio, still commercials and deejays etc.? And trust me here on can/must change, as I had a flip phone till 11 months ago.

Local radio stations give road conditions weather conditions and local events! I think this is still important to many of us.

I live northern area severe weather knowledge is a must from local radio.

Just saying.

HD Radio has very few (if any) commercials and the sound quality is far above FM and XM. The HD2 and HD3 stations here do not have deejays. Also, it's free so you don't have to burn cell phone data to stream Pandora, Beats, Spotify, etc. so yeah, it's kinda of a big deal.

OK, was not aware the programming was different. So a certain station maybe regular programming on HD but the same station will have and HD 2 or 3 programming??

Yep. For example, 100.3 FM in Houston is a top 40 country hits station. 100.3-2 is a Texas country only station with very few commercials and no deejays. 100.3-3 is a sorts talk station that is the same as 610 AM, just in much better sound quality.

This aint about music. This is now about GMs piss poor attitude about nearly every issue Ive had with BOTH 2014s i have bought. I give em hard earned money and all I hear is "OPERATING AS DESIGNED" bs. , or "COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM". I had plenty of new GM trucks, but my God this is getting out of hand. VIBRATION,RUST, BANGING AND CLANGING,SNAPPING AND POPPING, SEAT, RADIO, STALLING, I could go on. I kinda expect a few issues in a new model. Don't really mind being a test rabbit. But this is getting old. Now its a pissing contest. GM better drink up.

And don't forget, GM sells CARS that cost far less with HD radios that work, not to mention better non-HD FM reception that is much better!

Couldn't be there is a "wink, wink, nod, nod" deal with XM. That is just silly. Right?...Right?

And the only the vehicle in GM's lineup that they're trying to push it in is the Silverado's and Sierra's? Highly doubt it. If this was a problem across the board in new vehicle platforms, then you might have something

Id bet my paycheck that the radio is not designed and built by the same company that builds the truck. They might be a GM owned company, but they are likely so far removed from the vehicle manufacturing that it's in name only.

It'll probably be my first and last GM truck. I can accept issues, but not a lack of accountability or a desire to make it right in a meaningful way for your customers. At 42 pages and counting this is a real issue that needs to be addressed in a meaningful way, or fixed entirely. If that means a free XM subscription for 3 years so be it.

Edit: I just made it 43 pages and counting ha.

Had the update done to my radio yesterday. Truck was early build, but radio was changed to a later build. The update to the later build radio did not change reception issues, it just allows you to be able to turn off HD and keep it off.

Does it also allow you to turn the radio completely off? If I hold the power button, mine goes to the clock with no sound like I wpuld expext if it is off. But when I restart my truck, after the welcome screen is done, it reverts back to the radio screen with sound "muted" (speaker icon with x on it) as if it was not turned off, just muted. When I touch the power button, it un-mutes and begins playing. Occasionally, if I turn the radio off to the clock screen, it will start this way after the welcome screen. Never had a radio before that I couldn't turn off. I have the Bose Nav radio in my Silverado LTZ.
