PI1288a - this PI explains what they should look for to determine if it just needs A software update or both hardware and software.

Ok. That's what they did. It only need software. They have me a 2015 loaner. The radio reception is WAY better than my 14 in non hd mode

When you get your truck back, just make sure you turn HD off before you make any channel saves. Once it's off, it will/should stay off unless you physically turn it back on.

Non HD is not what we paid for, but your reception should be pretty much the way the '15 loaner is.

I don't want to turn HD off. It sounds much better than non hd. why would I do that glc?

Some have found that turning off HD helps overall reception to be better and keeps the switching back and forth between HD and non HD for those stations that do both. I left HD on and now receive more stations since the update. I did find one that dropped and it dropped completely where before it switched back and forth between HD and non HD. I just deleted this station. If this station was one of my favorites, I could turn off HD switching and it would just be a weaker FM station. I'm still playing with this...

Took my truck in today for oil and some recalls. Told them my radio sucked. When I picked it up they told me they would order the module and call me when it gets in.

Chuckl1218 pretty much said it. Some don't have any HD reception issues, some have very little, and some like me, have had ridiculous HD issues. Turning off HD coupled with the new module and software update "fixed" my reception to the point of just having a good "normal" FM radio.

My HD did improve some after the update, but still not good enough to leave it enabled.

Why would some 14's not need the module. Like mine

There are different part numbered modules used since the trucks were first built. If you look on the previous page at thread #762, there is a description of PI1288a where it is explained. There are a lot of part numbers where the modules need to be replaced and software updated and others that just need the software updated.

Had my 2014 Serviced this week and I also complained about the radio. The Service manager took a ride with me and experienced the bad HD. 20 minutes later he handed me a service builtin about the hd. He stated that the radio can be affected by buildings and trees. He stated the radio station may not transmit at full power. He also stated there may not be enough repeaters in your area. I did get the software upgrade

Got my truck back today and the dealer said the whole radio was replaced. I can definitely tell a difference with the infotainment system as its a bit snappier going through menus. New XM ID and traffic appears on NAV like I had with the free trial. Radio sounds great so far. I'll take a longer drive tomorrow to give it a proper test.
