I took my Silverado I'm for an oil change today, and mentioned to them that I had issues with HD radio reception. Later on, I was handed PI5854C, normal characteristics, HD radio signal cuts in and out skips or drops out (Aug 7, 2014). I told them I thought there was a newer one, but they insisted there wasn't. What do I need to tell them to get the latest update?

My truck is one of the first, 5/13 build. I've had it since 7/13, it has 17,500 miles, and I'm sure that it qualifies for the hardware/software update that was mentioned earlier in the thread.

PI1288a. You can see a description of it in post #768 or 725 by TBARN...what they do depends upon the part number of what you have installed. I had both hardware and software updated.

Step 1 find the end model p/n. No you cannot get these numbers without a proper scan tool.

Step 2. "Before updating software, check the tuner build version. The “Audio Soft Version” label should be 000478 or lower. If version 000478 is already installed, DO NOT reprogram. Software corruption can occur."

Fairly straight forward. Don't understand the confusion. No available correlation between build date and p/n. Could be one but not apparent though.

Tbarn, can you verify that this PI is still current and hasn't been superseded? If it is, what is the description of the problem that makes the PI necessary?

I was given this same run around by my dealer. Gave them the PI1288a number multiple times and was told it did not exist. I sent an email to GM customer service. While waiting for a reply, I went to pickup my truck and asked to confirm the information I was given over the phone (that the PI1288a didn't exist). Service writer attempted to prove that to me and asked for the number again. It popped up instantly when he looked it up. I had them confirm it needed the new radio and it was ordered and has since arrived. Taking the truck in next week for install.

Annoying to be given the run around when you already know what needs/should be done. I complained to the customer service rep that called and was given a case number.

Sitting at the dealership right now, dropping the truck off for a few warranty issues, radio one of them. It is getting a new one today, not sure about the programming, I'll try and make a report back afterwards.

Last update was Sept. 5 2014

Thanks guys. I guess they were just giving me the runaround as well then. I will bring up this specific PI to them this time.

Be sure to check your XM radio ID after the swap. Mine got new hardware and software AND a new trial period. Others just had to contact XM to have their subscription transferred to their new radio (if subscribed).

I will do that, Thanks!

Some having to contact XM like chuckl posted, but some like mine has the old subscription (old radio) running it's course, then the new radio having a brand new subscription taking over for a year from there! Not sure why the difference in some subscribers/subscriptions though.

Update :

Coming into work today, radio sounded top-notch. In all the spots where I would notice the radio get bad, it stayed perfect. I also think it sounds better too. I did have to call XM and get the account transferred.

Post an update a week later. Hopefully it will still work fine.

I plan on emailing the engineer next month to see how they are doing on the time frame for the next update. Hopefully it will be the final one and will get the system working as it should.

Well..... after a week, my radio still sounds like a radio. I call it a successful fix in my books.
