I had to repaint my 2013.

I've noticed rust around some edges in different spots on my frame, noticeably in the rear wheel wells. I've kind of ignored it, it looks like it's just surface rust. But my cousin was showing me his new '15 Ram, and it looks immaculate underneath. Mine never looked that good even when it was new. And now that this thread has popped up again I'm wondering if I should take it in and have it taken care of?

 

Edit: It was bugging me after reading this, went out to take a picture and was quite easily able to take a big flake of wax off. Here's a pic of the flake and some of the rust in the wheel well.

I have to go in this week for them to repair one of my coat hook that won't stay down, maybe I'll mention it to the service guy then

So I brought it up with the dealer, they said it was normal and to check out any other truck on the lot and they'll have the same thing. They'll fix it, talk to the business office to see how much it will cost cus I'm over 20000 km. :dunno:

Of course a 2015 Ram will look immaculate. My coworker's Ram looked immaculate 2 years ago and his frame looks plenty rusty now.

 

The factory wax is shit. Some guys on here will tell you to just keep putting the same GM wax back on. It's a waste of money and time. The wax will continue to harden and flake off. Either Fluid Film it or completely strip the wax and apply something like POR 15.

I get that the Ram was new, my point was that mine never looked that good even when it was new. I didn't realize how good it could/should have been.

 

Anyone know what this "20000 km mark" is? I couldn't find anything about it in my warranty book.

Oh, and apparently GM has a TSB out for this, REALLY, what another JOKE!!. Do they really think they can resolve the entire chassis, NO WAY IN HELL THIS CAN BE DONE RIGHT with a tubed chassis or not removing the cab, drive line and tons of other components, etc. Just think about what is happening inside the tubed part of the chassis where you cant where water and salts will lay, add the oxygen and booyah you got lots of rust. Clearly shows GM engineers don't think, but they do got good slogans to think about and promote.

I am somewhat ok with the rust as most of it will be cosmetic, but it really bothers me when they promote it as the most corrosive free vehicle, I wish this was never advertised!!!

My 2002 chevy's frame had lots of surface rust but was structurally sound. I can not say the same for the sheet metal, brake, fuel, and transmission lines though, they were all in rough shape when I traded it in. Made me think long and hard if I wanted another Chevy but I too saw the statement in the brochure about how it was designed to resist rust so I took the plunge again. Time will tell I guess. For now I am just cleaning up what rust I find on the frame and spraying over it.

I sent an email to my sales lady just mentioning that conversation and asking what the 20 000 mark specifically was. After a week or so I got a reply from the service manager saying that one year/20 000 is when GM will allow them to reapply the undercoating. He then said he spoke to his GM rep and since I am just over (well 24000km) and within one year they will do it for me. He says they'll need it for two days so it sounds like the more in-depth fix.

 

The rust is not that bad on mine, mostly around edges/welds, but the big flakes is why I brought it up to them. I think I will take it in since it's being offered. I can't think of any reason why not to :dunno:

So I took mine in for the frame touch up. The frame rails are totally recoated, except on corner of a bracket that has rust on it... So I'm assuming they just sprayed over everything :wtf::rolleyes: Oh well, I'll oil spray it before winter like I was going to anyway.
