So when the Ram electronic inevitably fail and the 12" screen goes blank how do you turn the heat on? Also when did the touch screen size become more important then looking out the window at the road?

It appears they still have manual controls for the HVAC on the 12" screen systems.

I'll give Ram credit for at least trying something different (at least for the pickup market). Even if one isn't interested in this large screen (it is an option) it does get people discussing/looking at the brand. Sure makes the truck stand out from a marketing stand point.

Looks like a Toyota to me......

Really, it's so hard to tell the difference. They look almost identical, right down to the uterus on the grille.

It still has buttons on the sides of the touch screen. I always laugh at the which truck is better discussions. At the end of the day it's personal preference. That new ram is slick. I think my old mans gunna pull the trigger.

I'm a Chevy, Ford and Dodge guy, have had all three brands over the years.  Last three (02 Silverado, 05 Avalanche, 15 Silverado) were GM, prior was a 96 F150 before that was a 88 Dodge 2500, before that was a 78 Jeep PU.  Each one was a little nicer.  I need to see the 19 GM's in person, but from pics the 19 Ram styling is where they should've taken the GM.  Having a real hard time with the narrow lights on the GM and the fender curves.

I see quite a few people citing reliability issues in Dodge.

Like Chevy doesn't have reliability issues?  Take a look at all of the people having A/C issues in a 1 or 2 year old truck?  My own 2014 had the A/C compressor go in August of this year.  I have had it 3 and a half years and the compressor went at 37k miles.

Someone else mentioned front suspension issues for FCA.  My 2014 Silverado 1500 LTZ 4x4 has 40k miles on in now and needs front ball joints and upper A-arms.  It warped its front rotors at 30k.

While I love my truck, my previous 2005 Dodge never lost A/C in the 8 years I owned it.  Never warped a rotor and didn't need ball joints until 60k miles.  So, this "longest lasting" claim is tough to prove nowadays...

Loved my 14 ram and never had an issue with it. Really like the new design and will probably go back to them 2 years from now. The new chevy is too evolutionary and i still want a V8, which isn't the fords specialty.

Thinking they are pointing to the averages compiled by consumer reports, JD Power or other research groups. In which case FCA usually finishes toward the bottom of reliability over the years.

Regardless, any mfg can throw a few lemons in the mix. At which point, it comes down to how your dealer handles it.

Silverado 1500 Reliability

Is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Reliable?

The Silverado 1500 is one of the most reliable full-size pickup trucks you can buy. For 2017, the Silverado earns 4.5 out of five in J.D. Power's reliability study, outscoring the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.

Rams Super Bowl commercial was interesting at the very least.
Small print about riding in the back of a truck at around the 27 second mark

"Never ride in the bed of a truck unless you are an authentic Viking."

To me its strange that stuff is wore out already. My friend has the same truck and 82,000 truck is fine. No front end problems still original breaks.

I'm a chevy guy. My first truck was an 03 z71 that I put 250k on before picking up my 17 z71. Beat the hell out of that truck and it kept on hauling. So it pains me to say the Toyota guys should be the only guys talking down on other brands about reliability. Hands down most reliable trucks. I'd put my Silverado on the same level as dodge/ford plenty of buddies with em and I work around a lot of construction sites with fleet vehicles. We'll see how she does, only have 10k on her so far.

I still like the changes GM made on their new 19 trucks, hoping all motors get power bump too. Otherwise dont kid your self , interiors arent GM's strong hand.

Also the 2020 Full SIze SUV's need to go to IRS or something that gives you more 3rd row leg room.

As someone who has had a terrible RAM and works on them often, I am not a fan of them.

Mostly issues with body rot, electrical, transmissions, and rear diffs.

I'm hoping both the Chevy and Ram trucks improve their front ends in their mid cycle refresh. Not a fan of either front clip and realistically that'll be about the time I'll be shopping again.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one...

Why don't these car builders just tear the dashboard and instrument cluster out,  put in a giant touchscreen and call it a day.  That's where it seems to be headed anyway.
