My new 2014 GMC Sierra Z71 also had a vibration at about 35-45 and 68-75. After numerous wheel balancing, re-indexing, front axle replacements, both drive shaft replacements, the dealer finally inspected the ring/pinon gears in the rear differential and discovered the teeth were not the same length (varied from .003 to .085). The dealer replaced the rear differential and this seemed to solve the problem, although not sure. I have the p/u in storage while we travel in our motorhome.

so i really don't want to read 267 pages. are there any 2015s with this problem or are they all 2014s? mine never had an issue. have almost 12k miles on it. i am about to order a 15 and really don't want to be sorry i did.

Cross your fingers or knock on wood and hopefully you won't get one that vibrates. Yes, some 2015's have this issue as well.

wait for the 2017's, its not worth the gamble at one in 5 of the 2015's having the vibration issues.

at the very least you should wait until the 2016's have been out for 6-8 months and if you don't hear about any issues it might be safe to gamble.

myself I wouldn't suggest you buy one until 2017 so the new redesigned 2016's will have had a full year to find and solve and problems they have or at least you will be aware of what problems they have.

if you absolutely need a new truck now, then look to another brand is the only smart move.

buy a GM truck today and the odds are better that you will get screwed over with a lemon then get very lucky and find one of the few good ones.

I hate sound like Im drinking the Kool-Aid here, Iv owned all the brands and have been lucky enough to have had very few problems. As far as waiting for this or that if your ready to buy do it. As far as my 14 GMC at 12K miles has been the best Ive ever owned. I guess you could get a bad one, that's with any brand the odds are in your favor that that wouldn't happen with any brand.

If this is true and you people still ignore this and buy new GM trucks anyway, you deserve what you get.

I was thinking of bringing mine in to "fix the shake", but enough people here seem to have tried, so if theirs weren't fixed, what in the hell would I get out of even attempting to go to my dealership? I also have an aftermarket Borla exhaust on mine and I can see that they would probably use that as an excuse as to why the vehicle is shaking....no thanks. I just do NOT have the time for back and forth dealership trips....SUCKS man!

I had a 2014 Silverado before I had this shaking 14 Sierra. New off the lot, the Silverado shook bad. They told me it had been sitting on the lot too long and tires were probably flat spotted. After a couple hundred miles, I brought it back. One of the rear wheels had TWENTY OUNCES OF WEIGHTS ON IT!. ON A BRAND NEW TRUCK! Way to go Chevrolet! I'm not kidding. They showed me. They replaced two tires. The truck rode perfectly after that.

I wanted the Sierra to have additional bells and whistles. I've owned NEW 99, 02, 03, 05, 07 and 14 Silverado's. Also had a new 11 F150. No problems with any of them. This is my first GMC. I thought surely "professional grade" will ride nicer than the Silverado. I feel kind of like the village idiot. Learned a lesson here the hard way. Wish I still had the 14 Silverado.

The maximum practical limit on balancing weights is about 3 ounces per wheel side, even on larger 20 or 22 inch wheels. If the wheel requires more than that to balance, chances are high that the tire is junk. 20 ounces is beyond ridiculous. Stick on weights come in strips of 1/4 ounce or 1/2 ounce weights. For 20 ounces, the weight strip of 1/4 ounce weights would have to be about 2 ft long! The fact that this vehicle came this way from the factory tells me beyond any doubt that there is nothing even remotely resembling quality control in that plant. The workers are just told to slap every part on and shut up.

I can't even imagine the issues GM customers are going to have when the new 8 speed transmission hits the market.

My buddy is a GM tech, and that's exactly what he said.

So you had a bad tire got it fix under warranty, rides perfect now, and you feel like an idiot. I hate to break this to you, people now days work for the money, not for pride. That's goes for all professions. If it didn't get fixed then I would feel like an idiot.

Read his post again. He traded in the fixed truck on a new 2014 GMC Sierra which apparently has bad vibration problems which are not so easy to fix.

Your right, he mention shaking Sierra. Even thou I have a good one and I trade about every two years, reading some of these problems, I think Ill keep this one awhile and not trade it just because I want to. Unless I start to have problems. I feel for these people, some people claim they all have problems which is silly.

telling people to go ahead and buy GM made trucks now is like telling someone to go bobbing for apples in a toilet and hope they find the one apple that's in there

I had a similar thought, had a truck with the same issue and they balanced the driveshaft which took care of the problem. OP, I noticed the same thing with the Z71 package, which is why I bought a 1LT.

Ditto. It seems that everyone wants to proclaim to the world that they have a "Z71" with heavy duty this and that. Well, along with it comes stiffer ride, more road vibration, etc. I too opted for the LT, great ride and I can still tow up to 9600 lbs.

* Oh, and BTW, GM might want to concentrate on how these vehicles are tied down during transport. Dodge/Chrysler had the same problem 20 yrs ago on their Minivans and after a lot of angst, it was a little reported secret that the delivery drivers were torquing down on the wheels and driveshaft spindles during transport. Also, the other day I noticed a truck load of new Chevy trucks being delivered and noticed that they have solid black metal wheels on them, not the ones they will be sold with.

    • Thanks!  I figured as such; GM and other manufacturers have used standard parts and harnesses across trim levels and such for decades.  I pulled the blank accessory cover off of my commuter van (a 2016 or so Chevy 15-passenger) years ago and found the plug for a USB outlet.  It wasn't connected to anything, though (I tried swapping in an outlet from another van).  I was a GM Tech years ago (late-90s) and was pretty familiar with my 2006.  I might be wrong, but I view newer vehicles (pretty much anything made in the past 20 years) as being a lot more plug and play.  Meaning, more unused wires and plugs unless you have the Mack Daddy of vehicles.
    • not all plugs will be used.  gm uses more generic harnesses that support most/all options, and if your truck doesn't have a specfiic option, the plug won't be used (commonly will have a dummy insert in the plug , or it'll be taped up, but some may just be left as is).  But it's sldo possible some p.o. has installed the wrong/cheaper parts that aren't correct for your vehicle...
    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.
    • I always drive in Sport mode. With more driving, I am finding the initial response when accelerating is much quicker now🖕 Lou
