I purchased a set of BF's and they handle much better, but it didn't cure my 43-48mph vibe.

I have programmed afm off, balanced tires, replaced tires, checked the backlash on the ring gear(in spec), and nothing has fixed it. It's not bad, and I have chosen to live with it for now, or until a cure is found or acknowledged.

I'm not gonna let the dealer throw parts at what is obviously a variable issue between trucks, and the service dept have no idea what to do other than what a bulletin tells them to....trained monkeys for the most part. So few mechanics left these days.

I adjusted the air pressure in the tires today and noticed an improvement in my vibration. I notice something in the wheel now but its nothing I want to bring the truck back to the dealer for. They will probably say theres nothing wrong with it. At the point its at now ill live with it

After the dealer having my truck for almost 2 weeks they replaced 3 tires (2 tires when i bought the truck) and the vibration was gone... for an hour.. its back again. Interesting enough, on my service documentation it said they road forced the tires and it was 6lbs of road force, came back after "letting the bead set" and the same tire tested at 12 lbs?? WTF happened?

I took delivery of my factory order Sierra 1500 Denali right before Christmas and noticed a slight vibration at highway speeds. My truck has the stock 20in wheels with the (less than stellar) Goodyear LS2s. Took it into the dealer this morning, and they force balanced the tires. Now, here is the kicker. They've had several complaints about this, and so they use a force limit setting on the Hunter9700 that makes it more sensitive to problems to prevent repeat complaints. I think they said it was a value of 15lbs instead of the default of 30lbs? I do remember them saying GM doesn't want them to use a value that low, but they still do it to make customers happy. At any rate, using that value, they were able to find one tire was out of round that the default value would have let slide. They replaced the tire, and now vibration is gone.

 

So if you've had your tires force balanced and still have vibrations, check to see what value they used. If its the default like GM wants, see if they will change it to be more sensitive to tire or wheel dimension problems. Hopefully this info helps someone else in time and money.

As I said several times before, road force variation and proper balancing are two different things. You can have a perfectly round tire with zero road force variation, and if the guy doing the balancing balances it wrong for whatever reason, you will still have vibration. Not all dealerships invest in a set of Haweka lug adapters, which enable better balancing and more meaningful road force measurement. In fact, Hunter recommends that such adapters be used for road force measurement. However, they make them optional, and they are pricey, so some dealerships do not buy them. Doing road force measurement involves a pneumatic roller pressing against the wheel with force of about 700 lbs to simulate on the road tire loading. This kind of force applied on a wheel mounted on balancer with only a centering cone through the center hole is not optimal configuration and if the technician does not tighten the screw properly, can result in wheel damage. Hasty mounting using a centering cone on the outside can result in improperly mounted wheel and phony road force readings and incorrect wheel balance.

 

Many here seem to be convinced that if their wheels show low road force variation numbers, this guarantees a well balanced tire. No, it does not. Hunter 9700 machine first measures the road force variation (if that option is selected) , and then imbalance in the tire. The second step is crucial to proper wheel balance. And remember, the larger the wheel diameter, the more difficult it is to balance the wheel correctly if mounted on the machine only with a centering cone and pressure cup. And if the machine is not calibrated properly all bets are off.

I should point out that...when I had my 14 GM I was convinced it was tires, but didn't want to invest in new ones "just in case" it didn't fix things. My new F150 has the same tires (GY SRA) and they actually ride pretty nice. I took the family on a nice drive yesterday, 208 miles mostly highway and the truck rode great...very comfortable. And, it was in the teens all day and I averaged 19.4 mpg the whole trip. Love my F150 with it's 5.0!

I should point out that...when I had my 14 GM I was convinced it was tires, but didn't want to invest in new ones "just in case" it didn't fix things. My new F150 has the same tires (GY SRA) and they actually ride pretty nice. I took the family on a nice drive yesterday, 208 miles mostly highway and the truck rode great...very comfortable. And, it was in the teens all day and I averaged 19.4 mpg the whole trip. Love my F150 with it's 5.0!

he posted about having the same tires that we have on our trucks and they rode great on his ford and like it or not GM has forced most of us to look at other brands as the only solution to get a good riding truck

Mine rides great with Firestone destination AT, manufactures can get different quality good year tire and i believe Gm went with the shit quality ones.

trolling is exactly what mudbutt did with his post so im glad you said that.

 

MJFlores and Silverado 6.2 posted the exact same way yet there where no posts by anyone telling Silverado 6.2 he shouldn't be posting that.

 

the only thing bringing this thread down is posts like mudmutt made and the people who support such rude posts.

 

but I do agree there are the ford fanboys around that just post BS and their comments are not needed here

I'm glad you're happy with your Ford. A co worker has a 2014 5.0 in burnt orange that looks really nice. But it's apples and oranges what you're saying here. There's no guarantee the Goodyear SR-A tires Ford has are the same quality GM has been putting on their trucks. Even if they were, the F150 has softer suspension than the Silverado so you could very well have the same crappy tires but you just can't feel it as your suspension is dampening it.

Yeah, I may have been rude but just to make a point to this guy... Listen, I just traded a 2012 Dodge RAM Hemi Bighorn for my 2014 Silverado. I had a lot of issues with the Ram and even went through the Lemon Law process with it. I am real happy with the Chevy but you don't see me posting on the Dodge RAM Gen 4 site and telling everyone how great Chevy is and how I made the best decision getting rid of the truck when everyone on that site is driving a RAM. I just call it as I see it and you guys are the trolls here ...

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
