Can someone post up the link to the procedure the GM is supposed to follow? I saw it yesterday but can't seem to find it today.

Projectsummit,

What kind of tires do you have and when did you first notice the problem?

Posted (edited)

I've only had the truck for a few months, when I was running stock rims and tires I noticed it a bit on a newly paved road near my house and just assumed it was how they paved the road. I recently had new dynapro atm's installed on 22' rims, roadforce balanced. I notice the same hopping type vibration on the same road near my house and just recently noticed on the highway. I honestly haven't had it long enough to have noticed it on the highway before. My lower ball joints to have a bit of play in them, I'm just waiting for the parts to come in to replace them. Hopefully that its the cause, if not I'll probably take the wheels back to where I had them balanced and see if they can double check them.

The weird thing is that its only noticeable on newly paved smooth roads.

I have a 2015 4x4 Silverardo 1500 regular cab, 8 ft bed with just over 2k miles now. Just after 500 miles, I started to notice a vibration right at 70mph. At 65 didn't notice at all, and at 75, started going away.

Brought to dealer here and they Load balanced and found two bad tires from factory. They replaced and I'd say 75% of the vibration has gone away. Thus making it shall I say less offensive.

Just an uninformed comment, but maybe they should have replaced all four. This may account for the remaining 25% of vibration. Dealer, "why the front 2 and not the back 2"? I suggest you get after them while the issue is still fresh and the truck has low mileage. It could get worst. I think you may have some leverage to pursue this. I was just told by my dealer that my vibration my be attributable to flat spots (the truck was a show room truck). They are replacing all four. Just a suggestion. I will test drive tomorrow. Not trying to rain on your parade.

Okay, so I am at my local GMC dealership for service (oil change). I ask the customer service rep if they have had any Sierra's come in with shake/vibration issues. The answer was yes, and I asked if they fixed the issue. I have to add that these guys know me, and they know not to BS me. I was told they fixed the issue by loosening the body mounts, drove down a few rough roads, and re-torqued. Supposedly that fixed it. I was also told that the pico meter was giving them the run around and they had tried pretty much everything else.

So what do you think?

Anyone know the torque specs of the body mounts? I'd love to give this a try. I have aftermarket wheels, tires, and a leveling kit, so going to the dealer is probably not an option.

Got my truck back today. 3 brand new tires, 2 rear shocks, driveshaft is within tolerance. ZERO Change. Time to call them again in the morning. Attached pic for the write up from gym

70ft lbs I have the body mount steps. Never changed anything by putting them on and checking them

My 6.2 Denali finally arrived and I took it for a boot this afternoon. Happy to say it's smooth as silk at any speed. I can see how the factory tune for the 6.2/8-speed limits the trucks potential but once it lets it run with the power it's plain silly for a fullsize truck. That subdued Corvette growl is a nice bonus.

I know a lot of the vibration issues happen after some mileage and I hope mine stays like it was today.

I'll definitely post if I have issues, though.

Ok my ride has been in the shop since last week with the vibration. They road force balanced the tires, with no resolution. They are looking at the rear end now. They need to decide a course of action with the service manager tomorrow. Guess I'm the first at this dealer with this problem. The video I took was eye opening to the tech last Friday.

Ok, they pulled and balanced the drive shaft this morning, didn't fix it. They are now looking at the ring and pinion. Parts in tomorrow morning to make the changes. They told me it's defiantly something in the rear end that's causing the vibration.

Crazy thing is, I had zero vibration until about 12,000 miles. Then like a switch it started.

Hope they get it close enough by this Friday as I need the truck this weekend.

Very frustrating to pay this much for a vehicle and it's not 100%.

Looked at a Tahoe LTZ yesterday, might have to dump and run if this doesn't get fixed right.

RIng and Pinion made ZERO difference in my truck just got it back Thursday after being in the shop 2 weeks.

I am a GSM for a Chevrolet/Subaru/Chrysler dealership. After going away from Chevy back in 09 to Ram I was tired of the poor quality control and just picked up a 15 Rally 2 Edition. I did a dealer trade as we didn't have one in stock, and drove an LT ext cab Chevy down. That truck rode like a dream. No vibes, shakes, nothing. Perfect.

I hop in mine and head back and what do you know, the dreaded vibes. It generally happens between 60-75 but has occured as low as 50 on random occasions. As with others here, it is not consistent (changes based on throttle input, load, etc). It's the worst a cruising speed though and can shake very bad through the wheel. I bring it back and have my shop do a road force balance which accomplishes nothing.

I ended up calling our dealer Chevy tech line today to see what they had to say and they mentioned they lowered the road force balance limit from 25 to 15. I doubt that's going to change anything but it's worth noting. He also mentioned that there have been quite a few rear ends replaced due to excessive lash that they felt were contributing to the vibration. That certainly seems plausible as it changes depending on load which could definitely point to that as a potential culprit.

Whats the word?

Whats the word?

Well they ended up going after the low hanging fruit first. They road balanced the tires again and they are WELL within spec. I tossed some 2" drop shackles in the back and it didn't solve the problem either. I then swapped 18" wheels off another truck in stock and the problem is still there.

We ran out of time today but next in line is a driveline balance followed by a rear end. I honestly don't think either of those is going to solve the problem either but it will give me plenty of ammo to pursue a buy back. I could live with it if it was a minor vibe but even my tech says that is the worst he's seen. It's downright awful at 60. I can actually feel it at around 40 but 60-65 is where it really gets vibey.

I've driven quite a few trucks on my lot and most of them are pretty smooth. There's 1 or 2 that have a very minor vibe but nothing that I couldn't live with. This one happens to be considerably worse unfortunately.

It's pretty sad as Ram is the brand known for piss poor qc. I've owned 3 Rams and never had anywhere near this much problem as I've already had with the Chevy.

The other disconcerting thing the tech found; when replacing the shackles you have to remove the hitch bolts. Every one of them was in there hand tight. I pull a 12' trailer around with street bikes and dirt bikes and would have loved watching my hitch vibrate loose and auto eject going down the highway. I've pretty much lost faith in Chevrolet's quality at this point.

I also have a paint claim on the back of the truck. I have literally about a 1" by 1/4" blob in the back quarter panel. Very disappointing.

I think people with tahoes have been complaining about the issue too.
