This was posted in another thread recently. I believe southern sierra's vibes were cured by torquing the u-bolts too. I know spec is 78 ft/lbs and I have tried my with no luck but the highest I have gone was 95 I think. I know southern Sierra torqued them down as tight as he could so maybe they are onto something. I might try cranking mine to 120 or so this weekend and see if it helps. Worth a shot and it's free.

Not too sure about the quality of the GM U-bolts, but couldn't cranking them that tight potentially cause some type of other issues, whether it be with weakening the bolts themselves, or something?

 

Took my 2015 Silverado in this morning. They are going to do the Road Force tire balance. I'll post the results.

I'll tell you what will likely happen....

 

They will RFB the tires and check the wheels for roundness.

 

They will determine that 1 or more tires is way out of spec (excessive road force) and replace them with ones that are "in spec" (note that GM is now using much tighter standards on their tires than any other manufacturer including the tire manufacturers them selves) because they feel that it is the a cheaper hopeful fix for them

 

Now the dealer will call you and say that your truck is all set, and the vibe is/ should be gone.

 

You will go pick your truck up and begin driving only to find that the vibe is still there... possibly reduced some, but still there nonetheless.

 

You will come back here saying the vibe is still there after the dealer replaced X number of tires.

 

Now you will be contacting the dealer again to get the truck in again for another "fix" that likely won't work.

 

 

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is happening so often, everyone knows the process by heart now lol.... Good Luck though, lets hope I'm wrong and you're one of the very few lucky ones.

I got the same vibe from reading this thread. I already have the Lemon Law form ready to fill out for each visit and I'm making sure the work orders from the dealer specify what I went in there for. I hope this doesn't go that route because I love my truck. I do find that the vibration is intermittent and only seems to show up when the truck is having to push itself. The infrequency of it bothers me a bit because that just tells me it will be harder to figure out. It also doesn't seem to be as much of a shake as other people might be having.

 

Are all of the GM/Chevy trucks doing this?

Gm customer service is useless,I have been dealing with vibration on my 14 Sierra since new. I finally contacted the bbb and guess who calls the next day. After a couple weeks of back and forth the rep tells me yesterday there is nothing wrong with my truck and he has nothing to offer for the countless times at the dealership for the vibration and many other issues and I need to go toward with the bbb since I didn't like his answer. My truck is in the shop right now and the 16 sierra I'm driving is also a vibrator with wheels.

I dont want a new truck, I have to much money into this one. I want my truck fixed and I want to be compinsated for all the troubles I have had over the past two years. I didn't buy a new truck to go to the dealer every few weeks and get crappy rentals.

May be you will be ok if you buy their lifetime warranty, you will need it

I traded my 2014 Silverado for a Ram R/T 5.7. Very few people got the ecodeisel and I did read one member of a Ram forum had a failure with that engine. I'm certain Chrysler will actually find a fix if they haven't already. The 3.6 V6 and the 5.7 V8 are very good engines. While I've had mine I found one defect that was actually fixed by the dealership and one recall that was also taken care of. It is the best truck I've ever owned and I've had many Ford and several GM. Extremely smooth ride and completely unlike my Silverado experience of endless recalls and many defects that could not or would not be fixed. So trash the Ram's if you want. But everyone must make their own decision on what is in their best interest and go out and check things out for themselves. There are fan boys of every make. I go to the brand that dumps on me the least at the time and that ain't GM as is evidenced by this entire thread.

I have had my 2015 Silverado Crew Cab LT for a month and it has this console shaking issue. Taking to the dealership in the morning for that and a seatbelt problem. I'm not able to read the entire 515 page thread from 2013 until now. Has anyone been able to remedy this issue? I've seen some people talking about this buy back thing or tires/drive shafts out of alignment. I really love my truck and I don't want to give it up.

 

It seems to shake between 70-75 mph, but not all of the time. Sometimes it's more shaky than others. I've also been on smooth asphalt back roads and not felt it at all. Could it be something to do with rough concrete highways send the tires or something out of whack? I had a 90-something GMC a while back and the steering shook with the cab. Found out it was bad back tires.

You describe mine except we get the vibration in the seat at freeway speed of about 80mph. Mine is not the drive train because it is smooth on good roads and worst on a road with small evenly spaced ridges like concrete road joints or asphalt seams that start to appear where each separate pad of asphalt starts to heave with age. More noticeable in winter. I'm baffled on this one wondering if it's the Mag Ride shocks. Seats aren't real solid so maybe another possibility. At first I thought it was driveline or rear end but mine only vibrates at 80+ or - 10 and only on certain rough roads. Running my Michelin studless tires that didn't vibrate on my 2014 so not them unless I'm beginning to get some tread separation. Nothing visible on exterior of tires and just drove 1500 miles with no change. Maybe the stiffer body mounts contribute but my 2014 was identical truck except for the Mag Ride shocks on my 2016. Any other thoughts?

at this point I'd take a f*cking FIAT over a GM POS. lol... maybe thats a bit extreme, but I would definitely go back to my 9 year old car.... or the other 15 year old truck we traded for this POS

I'd take my 2,000 shares of GM common stock that turned to dust in 2009 back in cash for what I paid for it. Like thousands of other folks, lost this out of my 401K. Ooop's, think I'm on the wrong blog. Sorry !

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your experience is not the norm. Most folks with the 70+ mph vibration don't seem to get it resolved with balancing and/or new tires. Does make me wonder if the people doing the balance (on the ones that don't get fixed) are doing it correctly! We've discussed that numerous times before on this thread. Still a question, in my mind.

Wrench... Nope, you a definitely not wrong... I follow this thread daily and maybe 10 were fixed with a tire Balance... One of my wheels were out 1 1/4 OZ which is a lot from what I hear... My Vibe was really really bad..

Well I assume that means you were lucky and got a good one. Great, stick with it and enjoy it. All I can relate is my experiences with GM. The first new vehicle I ever bought was a 1981 El Camino. I found eight defects just on the way home from the purchase. It had an engine knock that they could not fix and then stated it was normal. When I washed it the wipers would come on. Sheet metal actually cracked. And on and on. I swore off GM until 2010 when I got 35% off on a new Silverado. Although the engine, suspension and materials were antiquated, and the ride was more choppy then a row boat at sea, I actually had no problems with it. So when the new style came out in 2014 I traded for one of those with a 5.3. I did like the gas mileage and the ride was improved and I had no problem with the 6 speed trans. As I mentioned before due to all the unfixable problems and endless recalls, I had to part ways. I went with the Ram because after a lot of research on direct injection engines which are found in all GM and all Fords except for their 5.0, I knew I wanted to check out the Ram because it still has port injection and so will not suffer the inevitable carbon buildup problems your direct injection will have. I was surprised at the higher quality of the interior, electronics and suspension of the Ram over the GM. So, I'm happy you like your GM but in a way it was a good thing mine had so many problems or I would not have discovered a better truck for less money. I still come on to read this thread just because it's hooked me like a soap opera. It's like the battered wife who won't leave her husband because she loves him and thinks she can fix him. Same thing here. "My truck and GM treat me badly but I love it and if I just keep changing parts out on it over and over, someday it'll be the truck I married".

    • More is cylinder deactivation. Kia-Hyundai Ive had 4. The warranty is the same 10 years 100K miles. My grandson drives the first one 05 Elantra GT. My wife drives the second one 2011 Genesis. The Genesis still performs as new and looks great. The Elantra looks rough. He’s not kind to it. The third was a Genesis coup. The fourth was a Santa Fe. Those were my daily drivers. I don’t keep them long. Kia is the same as Hyundai with the same warranty. I looked at the K-4 today. Too small, otherwise pretty good buy. Most of Hyundai and Kia’s have a performance upgrade.

    • Great question. Answer....depends. One the volume of the crankcase, the driver that will actually be using the vehicle and the amount it uses plus the distance expected for that next trip. Couple of for instances:   Wife is going to drive Dizzy to Moline and back plus a bit around town so say 500 miles on the day. I know from years with that SUV that around town and local rural it uses about a quart in 1250 miles. But on the Interstate and her at the wheel without her anchor nagging her she'll push it and it will drop a quart in about 800 miles. Hence, around town I wait to somewhere between a quarter down to a quart down. On her trip I'd top it if it was down a few ounces and hope for the best.    Have I overfilled one? You mean by adding before it needs a full quart I assume. No, not once after finding the true fill mark.  I know the dipsticks of everything I drive and add what it needs. I learn this by doing the first oil change a quart low. Run the motor for a few minutes. Let it sit over night. Check and mark. Then add half a cup at a time making note of the place on the stick. I add through the dipstick tube with a barbeque basting bottle. Give it a few minutes to drain down and check again.    A vehicle like Dizzy that uses this much oil will take a few quarts between 3K changes. I keep one in the vehicle with the bottle and a bag. (Mindful of it's fullness) Not a big deal and never makes a mess of it. There is no such thing as "multiple quarts' in my shop for any specific oil. There will be a maximum however of the number of different oils used over the fleet.     Dizzy holds a nominal 5 quarts. So the first fill was indeed over as it actually took 4.75. My vehicles are fit with Valvomax valves so I can meter an ounce on the drain if need be. Found her mark first crack at it. Never to be repeated.    Pepper uses none between changes so I don't keep a quart in that one. Straight up 6 quarts put her dead on the full line. Check it ever fuel stop. They will surprise you when they start using.    Raven holds 3 liters or 5.44 ounces over three quarts. I add 3 quarts and 6 ounces. That gives me 5 oil changes on my orphan quart.    Lawnmower holds about 3/5 of a quart. I don't over fill it to prevent an orphan. So yea, depends. 
    • 185k on original 6.2L engine and 10 speed. 6" lift with 35" tires. Changed oil (Mobil 1 synthetic) when truck told me to. Original tranny with original fluid and no service or flush done. All highway miles. A/C compressor replaced at 155k. Oil cooler line replaced at 180k. Still daily driver. Love this truck.   This is my 3rd 6.2L vehicle (2008 Yukon Denali / 2018 Cadillac Escalade) with over 150k miles and no issues. Denali had broken motor mount at 100k.
