Brings up another question. How many 2014 GM V-8 and V-6's have been produced (like I said, my dealer said that a recall of 370,000 was a small number. (??hmmm)

My dealer said mine was done prior to pick up 11/9/13 but I think they are mistaking this for the transmission flash so I will just keep hawking the recall website with my VIN

I bet the trucks parked at the North American International Auto Show have already been done! That would have sure been embarrassing if GM's trucks burned up Ford's.

I went by my dealer at lunch only thing listed under my VIN was the active fuel management calibration, power sliding rear window and the BCM communication error. All three have been completed.

How about answering the question that everybody here is asking? Is this a new recall, or has it already been performed on some vehicles built after a certain date?

I sent a PM to Kristen and asked the following questions. I'll post if I get any info:

Hi - I appreciate you answering some questions if you can about this recall.

1. What percentage of the GM trucks that have been built (V-6 & 5.3L) are included in this recall?

2. Is there a date after which trucks produced have been corrected before delivery to the dealer? If not, why are only some of the vehicles included in the recall?

3. If a recall is not showing up for my VIN when I search on mychevrolet.com does that mean it's not affected? Or could it be added later.

4. Why are some service people (I know of at least two dealerships) not even aware of this issue?

Thought the same thing. Mine always shows V8 mode at idle, so this is strange and hard to believe.

The thought of 2 cylinders carrying the other 6 at idle speed scares me ....

Sounds like a good way to build a 80k mile engine ... :ughdance:

My dealer said they won't have a fix until later in week. So they are not selling any new trucks. He said the update is not out yet.

I stopped in at my dealer today for a different issue and asked about this recall. They said that GM is in the process of issuing the fix and that it should be out later this week. They said that they are not allowed to sell any new 2014's until the fix comes out.

I would assume that the info in mygmc/mychevy wouldn't be updated to include this recall until there is an actual fix out, but that is just my guess.

Well I guess my dealership got some more information since this morning when the person I spoke with didn't know anything about the recall.

Apparently they can't sell any trucks (4.3 or 5.3) right now due to this issue. The service department told me just now that they should have the "fix" by early next week and will begin applying them.

I was told that since I have Engine Code L83, I am affected and will be notified to come in for the flash update which should take 1 - 2 hours. The engine code can be found on the options chart inside your upper glove box. He said anything other than L83 wasn't affected (at least for the 5.3L V-8). I don't know what the affected engine code for the V-6 is.

Continued.....

The service department did confirm what the article said, that so far this issue has been limited to very cold climates (which we aren't), and happens on extended idling. So those of you in very cold climates, I wouldn't let it idle.

Amazing though that this advice had to come out in the media - that service departments didn't call owners in cold climates.
