RECALL - Fire Risk

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else heard about the 370,000 2014 Silverado & Sierra trucks that are going to be recalled for software issues that lead to fires. Seems to be more prevalent in the colder climates where owners are leaving them idle for long periods. Google it or tune into Fox news for the details. Hows those illuminated radio knob issues sound now!

Just read this in Yahoo! news:

New York (AFP) - US auto giant General Motors issued a recall for 370,000 trucks in North America on Friday after identifying a possible fire risk.

GM said in a statement it was recalling certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks to reprogram software that could lead to overheating of exhausts, potentially causing engine fires.

GM said it had confirmed eight fires arising from the issue, although there had been no injuries. Each incident occurred in areas affected by very cold weather, the statement said.

The recall affected 303,000 vehicles in the United States and a further 67,000 exported and sold in Canada and Mexico.

Sounds like freezing exhaust valve issue ??

I better pull out my weathertec rear floor liner and my $4.99 black Walmart dog-protective seat cover sheet before the fire!

Funny though I just logged into GMesi (GM's service info the dealers use) and couldn't find any reference to this campaign (recall) supposedly this thing is updated in real time so assuming they want their dealers to know it should have been in there. The only recent campaign was the fuel pressure regulator one that was dated 1/6/14 I referenced in the other thread.

it is because they have not officially released the recall. it says the recall goes out the 16th

"Software reprogramming". GM is probably going to program the cooling fan to come on sooner or stay on longer to circulate air in the engine bay while the truck idling.

Just a guess...

I would assume if they have the recall in place they would update the service info. I would be curious to know if the calibration update is loaded into TIS yet. If anyone wants to shoot me a VIN I can run it through to see if they show any calibration updates available. Not having the vehicle and knowing what calibration it has kind of limits what I can check but I may be able to gain some insight as to what the calibration changes.

Umm, the 6.2 has the same style exhaust

All the more reason to add a catback is more like it

Article said the 6.2 was not affected :-)
