Consumer Reports does not like the Chevy Colorado

I gotta agree with them on price. Almost 35,000 bucks for a mini truck is frigging rediculous. That goes for toyota, nissan and any others. It would be reasonable at 20,000.00, but no more.

Haha good luck with that. These aren't mini trucks, they're basically the same size as a 90s 1500. You can barely get into a Civic for $20k, not a chance you'll touch anything but a stripper fleet model for low 20s.

As a lifetime mechanic that works on just about every brand, I get confused about CR's reliability reports. Some of their worst rated ones, I see regulary with over 200k on then and still going strong. I read an "excessive oil consumption" article by them this month, and of all the vehicles that they were citing for high oil usage, none of the brands were the inferior U.S. models they always put down. Makes you think.

I think they've gotten over it now but Toyota had serious sludge issues for a good while. I bet CR never mentions that.

I learned years ago to ignore consumer reports. They had it wrong on everything of which I had personal knowledge. I don't know if they have slightly veiled agendas or if they are just a bunch of pinhead journalists with no real world knowledge about anything. I used to think they were at least ok for washing machine reviews and vacuum cleaners but they even get that wrong these days!

The Japanese tricks are some of their crappiest offerings. Toyota has a new one coming but comparing a current one to the GMs is a joke, GM is superior in every way. Nissan is back in the stone age.

Well, coming from Nissan and having one parked in my garage right now I will say fit and finish far surpasses my GMC.

Hate all you want bro but American built cars and trucks have been lagging to the japs since the 80's.

I do love my GMC though even with the few flaws it has.

There is no way a Nissan truck can come close to fit and finish or anything else against a GM. None of the trucks have seen a real update in over a decade. The cars may be a different story but since Nissan uses CVTs in pretty much all (mainstream) models, I'd never consider one. CVTs are junk.

As my parents have a CVT equipped Suzuki in the driveway, and having DRIVEN aformentioned CVT Suzuki, I will say that it really depends on how the TCM was programmed and the torque rating of the engine. some cars like the JATCO CVT equipped Chrysler cars (I'm looking at YOU Dodge Caliber) you can rev the nuts off the anemic 2.0L GEMA "World" Engine, and barely move, while others like the Suzuki SX4, it's like having a Cochrane Warp Engine under the hood!

Nissans suck, the Chrysler one sucked, Toyotas sucks less but is still shit. That's from my experience driving them.

The CVT in the newer Subarus seems to be pretty dialed in. Honestly my only gripe would be that it's not linear enough when taking off. Throttle is too sensitive in the first little bit of pedal travel from a stop. Have read online and it seems that people haven't really had any reliability issues.

30.6mpg in my last hilly drive in the Outback.

I Bought a new 2012 Nissan NV 3500 van for my business and it has been literally flawless.. Has 70k miles on it driven by random employees who don't care and its been loaded with 2k lbs since day one. Original brakes... Only thing I have ever replaced were the tires at 60k. Very happy with the fit and finish... Took a gamble with Nissan and I'm impressed. The van is based off the Titan

Check out the 2016 nissan titan there Mike. Lets see how much you hate on a new 1/4 ton truck with the Cummins diesel option.

Titan is generally a half ton but Nissan is also going to do a HD-ish model too.

The Frontier is the 1/4 ton truck and it's just the same as it's been for a decade now.

My point is Nissan has let their truck lineup languish, it's a joke now. The new Titan isn't out yet, no one has driven it and regardless of how special the Cummins may be I'd never give it a second look because the Titan like all import brand trucks is ugly. Japan doesn't know how to style trucks.

It's amazing how many "new members" who chimed in to this thread JUST TO AGREE WITH CONSUMER REPORTS.

Mods:

Please edit that trash out.

I just joined this forum because I just bought a full size Chevy. This is my 3rd new full size Chevy in the last 10 years. I owned the 2015 Colorado and put 16K miles on it in 9 months. That gives me every right to agree/disagree with CR. I'm not a troller, so be careful with the comments. Type "lennstang" into a Google search and that alone will give you any info you need to know about me.

Dont worry too much lennstang. These guys here are proud of thier trucks as well as I. Just because you are new with only a few posts doesnt mean you arent qualified for an opinion, you are so state what you have to say.
