275 60 20 vs E Rated Tire Help

Looking for opinions on tire options for my wife's 2015 GMC SLT ccsb. She commutes to work about 90 miles round trip 4 days a week. She is currently running the stock SRA Wranglers 275 55 20's and her truck has a 2 inch rc level. We live out in the country and she does drive some gravel and off road for hunting purposes, but majority of the use is on the pavement. Her stock tires have about 19,000 miles on them and are over half worn and I'm thinking we better get a new set by winter. Plus I hate the look of those tires.

Anyways, I am running 285 55 20 Hankook Dynapro's (10 ply) on my '16 GMC with the 2 inch level. I absolutely love them, 11,000 miles and still look brand new. I do drive a lot more gravel than she does and I haul various equipment from time to time and need the 10 ply tires. Right now I'm averaging 18.1 for my total mileage and she's averaging 18.0 with the stock tires. Our trucks both have the 5.3 engine but mine has the 8 speed and hers the 6 speed.

My question is should I get her the 275 60 tire since she does more commuting or just go with the 10 ply? The 10 plys did stiffen up my ride quality a hair but it really doesn't bother me and I only lost 1 mpg in town and no loss with HWY mpg's. However, will the 10 ply's completely smoke her fuel economy since she has the 6 speed compared to my 8 and will she be sick of them on the commute?

The way things are going right now with my tires I will probably get 60,000+ miles out of them, will the 275 60 last her 50,000-55,000 miles or will the off road use wear them out fast? Really just wanting a good A/T tire that's not going to hurt her fuel economy and last a really long time.

If I go with the 10 ply I will get the Hankooks as well but the 275 60 I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks for your help.

I'm going P275 60 20 in terra grappler G2 very soon. They weigh 41# and stock 275 55 20 weigh 39#. I don't think much will be lost in mpg. I've also debated going with 295 55 20, but they are 55-60# and know it will hinder power and mileage. I believe it's a tradeoff. Get the p275 60 20 and better mpg/power, but will wear faster on rocks. The 10 ply will not wear as quick on rocks, but hinder mpg/power.

The terra grapplers are a pretty good tire although I have had some friends with some bad experiences with those tires. Maybe they were just lemons but one had two blow outs on a set of tire with less than 10k miles and another only got 15k mile out of a set on a 1500 crew cab. I know you are gonna get lemons in anything you buy but I personally think the track record of the BFG AT's are a little better than the competition. I actually think they are a little quieter than the terra grapplers too, but that's just my opinion. I have a set of the 10 ply BFG AT's on a 96 K1500 and so far I love the ride and haven't seen a drastic change in my fuel mileage. Guys around here are getting 45k-60k miles out of the BFG's consistently. The Hankook's or the BFG's are both good tires. I'm just a little more partial to the BFG's due to the more aggressive look in the all terrain tire.

If she doesn't have to do any real aggressive offroading and there is not a lot of towing/hauling involved you will probably be okay with a passenger rated all terrain tire. I don't know what the terrain looks like so I can't really offer an opinion on that aspect of it but personally, I wouldn't put a passenger rated offroad tire on a pickup truck, but that's just my opinion.

I have the 275/60/20 bfg ko2. Love them! Do kick up a few rocks. Ride is quiet. Had terra grapples and didn't like them.

I'm choosing terra grapplers mainly because of weight. I've owned 3 sets of standard terras without any issues. They are alot lighter than the BFG. If weight wasn't a concern, toyo would be my choice. BFG run small to size in my findings and ive never been a big fan. The P275/60/20 g2 weighs 41 pounds and the BFG weigh 54 pounds. I've had numerous wheel/tire combos the past 8 years and that's a big difference in overall mpg.

How many miles do you usually get out of your terra grapplers? I have a buddy that can order me the 275 60's for $190 a tire. Is that cheap or about what they usually run? I've called and priced the 275 60 bfg's at the tire shop and they're $299 a tire excluding mounting and balancing. I have never ran either tire, I've always had either Hankook's, Cooper S/T Maxx, or the Michelin LTX A/T that was on my 2500HD. Liked the Michelins but I'd like a more aggressive A/T for the price you pay for them.

Also may I add my 285 55 20 Hankooks 10 plys were $288 mounted and balanced so I'd rather go that route than pay $299 excluding m&b for an 8 ply bfg.

I got 47k out of a set on my 07 silverado, 44k out of a set on my 2009 silverado, and 46k out of the set on my 2011 silverado. All 3 truck were 1500/crew cab/4x4. Driving was 75% highway and 25% off road.
