Replacing 2.0 HMI module with 2.5 HMI module to add CarPlay/Android Auto to 2014-2015 Silverado

I have a 2016 Silverado with IO5(CPO 200$ deductible), I was looking to upgrade my HMI from the 2.0 to 2.5. I have a spare HMI 2.5 from work, the PN is 8433 1775, can anyone tell me if this will work? I have the 8in screen with bose.

Yup that should be an IO5.

So, I ordered it. And today on the way home, just for the heck of it, I plugged my phone into the triple port on the front side of my center console. IT WORKS PERFECTLY. I immediately canceled my order. I DID replace the one in my center console with the new updated one though. I did go ahead and check all functions, and they work. Maybe I just got lucky...

I got lucky and on the way home about 3 mins after I plugged my phone in, I got a tracking number. I instantly contacted the seller from ebay, and he was super nice to immediately cancel my order..

While the triple USB may work for one device, GM changed this and trimmed it down to a double USB port to full support CP/AA and multiple devices. If you plug in more than one device, there is a chance something might not work.

 

There is a reason why GM changed things on subsequent years.

 

There have been reports of “it works fine”... then later come back saying “it’s not working now”.

 

I would bring it up to “spec” to err on the side of caution

That clears it up. But I dont have use for the other ports on mine since its blocked by my hdmi switcher.

On all the R&D that I perform, I always compare and contrast hardware differences for this reason. I always tell myself that GM updates things for a reason. What is that reason? I find myself taking things apart just to compare. Here is an example... this is an Underhood Fuse Block. I had no use for it and took it apart. What did I inside? PCB mounted relays. I then took apart another variant fuse block and found major differences.

So when I observe that hardware differences exist, I tend to follow the same hardware specs and follow the advice of folks like@GTPPrix.

So I just updated my units and everything seems to work great but I can’t connect to the App Store? I am connected to my WiFi at home and I tried it at work on there WiFi but still says it’s unavailable I’m having a hard time signing into myChevrolet on the cars screen as well? I can sign into the app on my phone but I can’t seem to sign in on the truck and see any apps available?

I presume you didn't get this done with WAMS (whiteautoandmedia.com)?

 

Unfortunately that is not going to function in a 2014 (assuming your truck is a 2014 based on your profile info) for a myriad of reasons. Without knowing what hardware you used, its hard to say what the rationale was but thats part of why WAMS has validated hardware/software build combinations to make sure you get all of the features your truck can use and none that you cant among other things.

 I didn’t go threw WAMS only because mike for eBay “dunk” was local and got the unit the next day that I ordered it! My truck is a 2014 I have a pic of the radio Module but I forgot to take a pic of the hmi before I put it in
