I would love to go back and read the thread when the GMT 900's were released, just so I could see how many people bashed them as bad as most people are bashing this platform. It would be quite humerous to see how many people shoved their giant foot in their mouth and bought one months or years later. I'm sure nobody ever did that on here did they...

People don't like change. lol. At first its a shock then after a while the design grows on people. You are correct, same thing happend in 2007.5, posts all over the net about how the current truck was an epic fail for GM but i'm sure they have sold a $hit ton of them.

And if we all agreed on everything how boring would that be?!

BTW - Detailed and lots of pics:

I am really not liking the foil / wing on the ass end / tailgate of the truck. Ford did the same thing with their current trucks and it was big turn off. Other than that the trucks looks pretty good to me.

I agree man. That's why I'm not gonna make a final judgement until I see a few in person.

I think I just had a preconceived idea of what I though they might look like...and the finished product doesn't look like I wanted it to...so I automatically don't like it...especially on the inside. I hope they grow on me...

And why the switch to electric power steering. Engine-driven power steering is wayyyyy more reliable, and GM doesnt exactly have a stellar reputation with electronics.

Not to mention variable cam timing on a truck :rollin:

My wife's Cruze has electric steering, and it's nice, but after driving strait for a while on say a highway when you go to turn the wheel it feels like the wheel sticks for a second. Other than that it works good so far (22,000 miles).

I agree with electric steering not belonging on a truck. So what if it saves a gallon of fuel every 5000 miles?

This is why soon the HD's will be the only trucks people who use them as trucks will have.

I'm not sold on the inside either... I'm heading to the Detroit auto show so hopefully I'll be able to make a sure fire decision on if I like them then. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, undecided but leaning toward like.

Roger that. I've always wanted to attend an auto show, and see new stuff first hand. That will be really cool!

I'm very lucky, my sis lives in a sub of Detroit and my gf is there for dental school right now, I've gone prob 3 times in the past 5 years or so. I can also hop on a train that is 30 min from me that will take me directly to the Chicago show for CHEAP! No offense to C-town people but the D-town show is waaaay better, as it should be.

some f150s were having problems with heavy grill guards on the front. Too much weight I guess and it affected the electric steering

Both Ford and Ram have electronic power steering now. Sign of the times, every little thing they can do to have good CAFE numbers is done. And the current trucks have VVT as well and honestly making fun of it is a bit silly- take a look at how flat the torque curve is on a current motor vs. one from before.

I wonder if they will now make the 6.2 available in a regular cab ?

Got my fingers crossed for this myself! I'd be all over a reg. cab shortbed with the 6.2 and 3.73s. No wife and no kids so I may as well be able to go fast while I'm all alone.

After studying the boatload of pics on www.trucktrend.com

I really like them both!

I can't wait to see the HD's! Not excited about the price tag :-(

I guess that even the Denali will not get the 8-speed. Will have to wait a couple years for that :-(

Too bad the 8 speed is not ready at launch. The dodge boys pulled it off!

Only on the v-6 trucks right now, they don't have the eight speed goin into the hemi's yet. Although they are probably closer than GM is right now. It'll be a while til i upgrade and if i get a chance to upgrade to this 2014 style ill wait until they have the 8 speeds in them.

I'll be the first to admit that when the 1999-2002 trucks came out, I was in love with em. I thought they looked fantastic. When the 2003-2005 redesign came out, I vomitted in my mouth...a lot. I hated the design. But it grew on me. So much so that I bought a 2006 (the HD front end really cleaned them up). I, to this day, think the 800s (specifically 2006/2007 classic) look the best. Absolutely adore the trucks.

When the 2007 redesign came out, I loved the GMC but did not like the Chevy, but again, they grew on me. So much so that I find myself looking at the NNBS quite a bit. The chrome mesh in the Chevy grille looks amazing.

These will grow on me as well. And my complaints are strictly on the styling. I think the powertrain and interior are very nice and really give the trucks a nice advantage (powertrain) and a big selling point (proper V8s...no high strung V6 here)

I'm very concerned that GM will screw up the Tahoe/'Burban though. Frankly, I think they are some of the best looking vehicles on the road (with the Tahoe's proportions giving it the slight edge over the 'Burb). I would hate to see them go backwards.

All i know is that I want a new Silvy, like now! Looks 100 times better than the GMT-900. Maybe its just me, but I really love the return to the double stacked lights and the squared off muscular looks. Reminds me of the GMT-400's and my 2006 SS all in one.

    • This is interesting. My quote tagged here is different from my original quote. After I’m driving them longer. That isn’t me. I don’t talk that way. I definitely wouldn’t express myself that way. Interesting.
    • I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful.  I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps.
    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O.
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
