In conversation with my service advisor, he commented some suspicion from GM regarding the aerodynamics in this new body. But when I asked why double cab, crew cab short and crew cab long have the some problem, no answer.. I know that is different, but I had the vibration with and without tonneau cover.

 

Yeah, I still have a vibe with my tonneau cover on as well.

I don't have a shake or vibration issue (that i don't know off)but yesterday after making a trip to Houston I noticed that when I am accelerating at 85 or more I hear what appears a humming noise coming from the front of the truck. Anybody else is having this issue?

Well, wishfull thinking...it was just the cooler temps and not the tailgfate being down. It was mid 90's when I left my client and the truck was vibrating on the way home with the tail gate down. I still think it had a little bit of an impact, but not a big one at all. Oh well. Back to the drawing board...cuz GM certainly isn't at their's.

The impact it likely had was the drag force created by letting the tailgate down. Basically when it's up a pocket of air forms and travels in a circular motion within the bed allowing air that passes over the front of the truck as you drive to continue to pass over the pocket in the bed. The pocket of air in the bed acts almost like a camper shell. When you let the tailgate down, the pocket of air can't form so air passing over the truck from the front doesn't flow nicely over the bed and instead exerts a downward force on the bed creating drag. This is why letting your tailgate down while driving is worse for fuel economy, not better. Mythbusters did a whole study on this. That downward force or drag likely helped calm the vibration down but was neither the culprit nor the solution for the vibration problem.

HAS ANYONE REPLACED RIMS AND GOTTEN RID OF THIS PESKY VIBRATION??? IM AT MY WITS END... CAN I AFFORD TO PUT TIRES AND RIMS ON

I had both factory 18's and 20's. Both sets were equipped with factory Goodyear's. Both had vibrations. Even after multiple road force balances and rotations.

I to have noticed a shake while slowing to stop,then turning right it still shakes slightly as I pull away.it seems like it goes into v4 as I'm stopping (no v4 light on )which at low rpm might shake worse?and stays until I accelerate.

So if it cured it for a few days and came back, it seems that the tires are slipping on the wheels and throwing it off again (stating the obvious here I know). Wonder if the new wheel design has something to do with it.

 

Does anybody have this issue with aftermarket wheels?

They rebalanced my factory 20s with the Goodyear ls2's, twice, still shakes. I then put on my aftermarket 20s with toyo open country at2s(rode smooth on my 12 sierra).. Didn't help the shaking that's still there.

Anyone with non-Z71 (stiffer suspension) has the vibration issue?

I tested some z71 and non-z71 and looks like the non-z71 absorb (hide) the problem better.

I dont doubt that...I have a Z71 and run my tire pressure so they never exceed 33 when warm...today was in the 90's and they expanded out to 34...one was at 35. It helps a it for sure.

The temps here today were in the low 90's...very bad shaking at highway speed. Has anyone else noticed this? In the am on the way to work it's not too bad....but once it warms up wow...completely unacceptable ride. I'm not kidding here...looking forward to the fall and a better riding truck. Mine seems to really run poorly in this heat...runs poor, seems sluggish, MPG went down a bit, and shakes worse. Whats up with these trucks?

Yeah lots of people with non Z's having vibration issues if you read back through the entire thread which takes a while to do. Edited by Silverado-Hareek

    • Conditions for Meeting a Cold Start   The ignition voltage is between 10 and 15 V. The barometric pressure (BARO) is more than 75 kPa. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) at start-up is less than 42°C (108°F). The intake air temperature (IAT) is between 2–32°C (36–90°F). The engine is OFF for greater than 6 hours or the following conditions must be met: The start-up IAT minus start-up ECT are within 12°C (22°F). The start-up ECT minus start-up IAT are within 50°C (90°F). Fuel level is between 25 and 75 %.   Circuit/System Verification Verify that all I/M System Status indicators report YES, and that no I/M Test DTCs are present.If any I/M Test DTCs are set Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. If no I/M Test DTCs are set All OK. Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Set Procedure   Warning: Refer to Road Test Warning. Note: Do NOT touch the accelerator pedal until told to do so. A change in TP Sensor angle or an increase in engine speed may invalidate this portion of the test.   Note: An I/M Test DTC will not be stored or erased from the ECU except at the end of trip processing, which occurs 5 s after ignition OFF.   Ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start listed above. If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, perform the EVAP Service bay test if applicable. Turn OFF all of the accessories; HVAC system, other electrical loads, including aftermarket/add-on equipment, etc., and open the hood.   Set the vehicle parking brake and ensure the vehicle is in park for automatic transmission or neutral for manual transmission.   Start and idle the engine for 2 min.   Close the hood, release the parking brake and Accelerate at part throttle to 72–80 km/h (45–50 mph) with this speed maintained until the engine reaches operating temperature, 8–10 min.   Continue operation under these conditions for an additional 6 min.   Accelerate at part throttle to 90 km/h (55 mph) with this speed maintained for 2 min.   Release the accelerator pedal for at least 10 s. This will allow the vehicle to enter the decel fuel cut off.   Safely stop the vehicle, with the engine in drive for automatic or neutral with the clutch pedal depressed and parking brake applied for manual. Allow the vehicle to idle for 2 min.   Shift the vehicle to park for automatic and neutral for manual. Turn OFF the ignition and exit the vehicle. Do NOT disturb the vehicle for 45 min.   Observe the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System Status with a scan tool. All of the I/M System Status indicators should display YES.   If the EVAP I/M System Status indicator displays NO, turn OFF the ignition, ensure that the vehicle meets the conditions for a cold start, and repeat steps 6-11 three more times, or until the EVAP I/M System Status indicator transitions to YES. If the indicator continues to display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table to identify the DTCs that did not run.   If any of the I/M System Status indicators display NO, refer to the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) System DTC Table for the indicator which did not display YES. The I/M System DTC Table identifies the DTCs associated with each I/M System Status Indicator.   Observe the I/M Test DTC information with a scan tool. Verify there are no I/M Test DTCs present. If an I/M Test DTC is set, diagnose the DTC using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle and refer to Inspection/Maintenance System Check.   Observe the engine DTC information with a scan tool. Verify no DTCs are present. If a DTC is set, diagnose using the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. After repairs, perform the Inspection/Maintenance Complete System Set Procedure to verify no further DTCs are set.       Looks like one procedure to me.  Repeated as necessary.
    • My 2020 AT4 6.2 has had the valve spring issue addressed at ~200 miles, front cover/pump replaced at 18k, water pump at 34k and idler pully at 65k.  I would agree with ditching by 100k unless you elect to go with upgraded hardware...say built 10l80 and an lt4 or l8p swap.
