Curious as to what kind of MPG's does the 2500 get?

I don't know. I didn't buy it for milage. My last vehicle was an H2 HUMMER so anything is better. And honestly, I couldn't tell you what that got. I buy because I like the look of the vehicle and I needed a truck for a while. Sorry I can't be more specific. If I think about it, I'll track it and post sometime. Edited by Chappy 1901

There are several companies that sell a similar product. I think this bead balancing concept started on the big rig tires.

I am still convinced these trucks are sensitive to tires and balance. I mean can't get over the fact driveshafts, complete rear ends, motor shims, cab mounts, shocks. I mean really everything has almost been replaced on theses trucks and no one can figure it out. Seriously I am more convinced than ever I'm gonna try these ceramic beads and give it a shot at this point. My understanding of this balancing technology is it balances the whole wheel assembly. I will share my findings with the forum.

So the theory is the wheel(s) is/are shaking to the degree to overwhelm the shocks? Thus dropping the tire psi down 5 or so (as a test) should reduce the effect?

Has anyone put their truck on blocks, removed the rear wheels, and run at the target vibration speed (with the axe spinning)? if it still vibrates, sure ain't the tires if not even on the truck. Of course if it doesn't vibration then it doesn't prove anything as still could be the drive train if it has a load on it. But if lucky, it would repro with no tires.

Could mount an action camera pointed at each wheel (ie, four attempts with one camera) and compare them for any weirdness. If local to a single wheel, it should stand out when compared with the videos of the other wheels.

I have tried down to 31psi and on my truck the shaking is more pronounced. Currently running 39 psi and it's much better but still have some shaking not as bad. A GoPro camera mounted underneath looking at each wheel is a great idea.

If changing the tire pressure is having an effect on your shaking then I'd say your specific truck's problem would have to be tires in some way.

My vibration has improved after being RF balanced at the dealer last week, but I still feel it could be better. My wife says "well it's a truck", eehhhh....true but we will see how it goes over the next month or so. Maybe I'll go back have them check driveshaft b

Has anyone tried this to stop or lessen the shake?

Comment from video

I took mine in twice for it. The first time they said it was normal too. I didn't buy it, so i took it in the second time . They kept my truck for like 5 days. Finally they called gm. They said to shim the right engine mount 2 most inner bolts 3mm. They did this and it work! I can't hardly feel any vibration at all. There is some, but not really noticeable, so I am happy. I don't know if you watched it or not, but I have another video on here labeled "vibration on a 2014 Chevy silverado" that shows the vibration I was having.

Look at post #4 of this thread.

I don't recall seeing this, but has anyone experiencing vibrations in the steering wheel had any work done to the steering column or steering wheel? I have a vibration around 45mph that persists. Today I tried pulling down on the steering wheel while it was vibrating and with the applied pressure the vibration seemed to disappear.... I do have the manual tilt and telescoping steering column.

So I have had my 2014 Silverado Z71 LTZ for 28 days. I have the vibration problem to and it's no good. I get a vibration at around 68 to 72 and it's quite noticable but when I tow my 20' bass boat it shakes like the front end is going to fall right out of the truck. When towing roughly 4500 lbs it shakes bad, REAL BAD from 68 to about 75 and than it lessens a bit after that but I am not pushing it past 80 towing a boat. I have read about the first 22 pages of this 180 plus page thread and this does not look good. I have the Good year tires and I have 4200 miles on the Truck. Yes I know that's alot for a month but I am a Sales Rep and have a big territory and have been busy visiting my accounts. I have towed my boat three times and I have to keep under 65 to avoid the shaking. I hope to bring it back to the dealer next week but this does NOT LOOK GOOD. Hope GM GETS THIS FIGURED OUT FAST.

Thanks

And why should they even bother trying to figure it out if people keep buying these trucks?

Correct and they have the unknowing public to test the defective vehicles.

I don't think the people that know about the shake and vibration are running out to buy a 2014.

They buy one and then end up on these threads after a quick search on Google.

Edit: instead of researching and then purchasing. I am still learning this lesson and kick myself in the pants everyday because of it.

update on my vehicle - been to the dealers twice so far - first time rf'd and balanced the tires to no help - actually made it worse - the second time a rep came out with me for a test ride - he said he could hear and feel the vehicle was definitely shaking and breaking "rhythm" , that it wasnt the frame vibration from hitting bumps he was hoping for and wanted to see if it was tire or truck. one of the employees had a '14 with same set up that didn't shake at all and was willing to swap tires for a test ride - unfortunately the problem remained - so they ordered a rear shaft - while out on the test ride he also noticed when ever the truck came out of v4 there was an audible screech - upon further investigation he noted that an exhaust valve was faulty and ordered another exhaust for it - made me a little happy knowing these guys were actually looking for issues rather than the usual " they just kinda do that" brush off - on the way home stopped at my local tire shop to order tires for the wifes dodge caravan - manager commented on my new truck and we got talking about the vibration - said he was curious, that a new truck shouldn't do that and would be willing to rf and balance the tires for just the price of a balance - said go for it - found 3 tires out of balance "just left the dealer mind you" and one of the tires had a rf of 25 and the limit was 26 - fought that tire for awhile and couldn't get it any better - the rest were 17 or lower - so I don't know - im baffled, confused - I paid a new car price - just want that new car feel - plus to top all this off it started doing something new - every once in awhile when coasting to a stop, the truck will downshift hard and an audible pop can be heard from under the hood, almost like a muffled backfire from behind the firewall - anyone had this one? :banghead: got an itchy trigger finger for bedliner ,tonneau cover, rain vents, bug deflector, running boards, but its staying naked till its straightened out - good times

This is so troubling to know one truck model change can result in to so many seriouse problems.

Most of these issues have been noticed right from last July August launch and still exist a year later. If GM can't figure this out soon, and make serious changes they will be finished in this truck market. The folks that have bought these trucks have been plagued with issues since brand new. A lot of these trucks are broken at delivery and GM is peddling them out to dealers anyway.

I hope they find and fix your issues soon. My truck is broken also, shakes and shudders when shifting from 1-2-3-4 shift, Rack and pinion noise thunk sometimes, adaptive exhaust valve noise lately too, radio signal loss, seat issues, rusted frame.....ect.

I have started legal actions to fix it or buy it back, did not buy a new truck to drive a broken shuddering unsafe truck.

Report your trucks issues of shaking with NHSTA

    • I am sure that was quite the pass experience and not a great place to experience during the winter when the conditions are not good. I've seen video of that pass and also more detailed information and pictures about the wrecks at that one hair pin turn where tractor trailers have flown right off the cliff and I am sure from all the warning signs that you know the exact curve that was !. After all there is a reason why a song was made about Wolf Creek Pass !. By the way and I didn't realize this either when I bought my truck as its nothing I even thought of that would be programmed into the cruise control and this occurs in either the basic or the more advanced cruise that controls your distance behind a vehicle and that is the brakes going down a hill are being applied as soon as the vehicle goes a certain speed over the set cruise speed. While it certainly does force downshifts in the transmission as you found out with cruise on while going down hill, its also dragging the brakes as needed to keep the speed controlled to what the cruise was set to. For me, I find that unsettling simply because I have no concept then as to how MUCH brake input is being used a and just how hot are those brakes getting and the wear factor as well. I can see that system getting a person into trouble on long mountain grades while pulling a trailer as it would not only be standing on the brakes of the pickup without any driver input, it would also be automatically applying the trailer brakes and it could cause a run away unit by overheating the brakes. Its one thing on a shorter hill and if the driver allows it to do its thing but on a long mountain grade is where things could get so out of hand. As someone a while back on this forum said, they had someone following them at night I believe on a down grade and had the cruise set and the person behind them could see the brake lights being energized all the way down the hill. I figured when I saw your comment that you didn't know and would have no way of knowing that your truck was applying the brakes and that you would and rightfully so assume you only used the brakes when you pressed on the pedal to slow down more than the cruise set speed for the slower sharp curves. So its good knowledge to know this about the newer GM trucks, certainly when doing any descending on long mountain grades. In the future try kicking off the cruise and use the the manual mode on a pass to see what that is like as I know myself when I first experienced it I thought no way can this engine be holding me back this well and tried the same hill in manual mode and sure enough the engine was revving way up and still could not hold the trucks speed down like it could in cruise mode.    Fuel mileage, that is where a really low sleek type of car can do better at higher speeds, certainly it starts sucking fuel too but a tall pickup is pushing massive amounts of air and also allowing a lot more air under it and the tow mirrors as in elephant ears pushing through the wind  as well. Driving like grandpa is about as good as one can do when driving one of these if trying to get the best fuel economy they can. I bet these trucks would get the best mileage they can if driven on a freeway in Florida if not busy traffic at a sedate speed and that sea level elevation without hills, vastly different then Colorado !.
