Having a leveling kit doesn't get them off the hook. Blaming tires is an excuse. "In spec" is also an excuse. Aftermarket stuff doesn't allow them to skirt the warranty. They use this wording to turn you away. It's not like you turned the sheet metal inside out.

Preaching to the choir brother.

With all the varying attempts to correct this issue, and I DON'T have the vibration syndrome, I took my truck to my independent tire sh0p to have my wheels / tires (OEM 275/55/20 All Season Continental) balanced before a long trip. My truck has 1,600 miles on it. I use this shop for everything that is not a wheel or tire warranty issue for new tires, balance, TPMS, etc.

Previously I had driven on the Interstate up to 75MPH out of curiosity using the "water bottle test" and witnessed a little shaking, certainly not enough to become a Vibrator Member so this aroused my curiosity. Before the wheels were balanced I asked the guys at the tire shop "How are the factory OEM wheels and tire balances?"

They replied "Normally they are pretty good."

Mine were not:

  • Left front: had factory 1/2 oz and it needed 1 1/2 oz added.
  • Right front: had 1 oz and needed 2 1/2 oz total.
  • Right rear: had factory 1/2 oz and needed 1 oz total.
  • Left rear: had 1oz and needed another 1 oz for a 2 oz total.

Took the truck back onto the Interstate with the "Water bottle test" and voila! Hardly a ripple @ 65, 70, and 75 mph..

What's the moral to this story? Damned if I know but don't trust a factory wheel and tire balance and I wouldn't always trust the dealer to do a "dead-on" warranty balance either. I had to pay for this independent balance of course but it was worth it to me.. This was not a "Road Force Balance."

Edit: Almost forgot the tire / wheel assemblies were checked for "out-of-round" and they all were less than 1/32 inch with 32 lbs tire pressure (.0315).

You have 20" Rims and Continental tires? At least you didn't get the Good Year LS-2"s I have what looks like 6.0 inch strips of these newer style fancy looking weights on my Chrome Clad Beauties! Probably would put me in the vibrator camp after stripping all that nonsense off on the LS-2's

I finally dropped the stock 20s. Got a ridiculous deal on a set of 18" wheels in December and went with 275/65R18 tires. The extra sidewall helps with smoothing out the ride.

Got rid of my 20's finally after identifying a bad wheel and/or tire. Actually, what was probably two. Went over to 17" forged wheels with new tires and now she rides damn good, I actually enjoy driving my truck on the highway now. Any residual vibration is due to the rear drop shocks being valved for a bigger truck so I have a set of QA1 adjustables on the way that should help smooth out the bump vibration.

My 20's were balanced 3 times, but only static balanced every time. A dynamic balance or road force balance may have fixed this problem, but it was a good excuse to cut over 100lbs of unsprung weight from the truck.

Yeah my 22's are 100 lbs ea. Crazy heavy!

I can only imagine, my rears barely break 50lbs each and the front's are only 45lbs. Quite the weight savings on the unsprung side.

So this is completely off topic, but my brother wrecked his car yesterday, ripped the axle right off the damn thing. I'm planning to specify some of the parts that the shop uses such as Timken hub assemblies and wheel bearings, going to use aftermarket headlights and I want to specify a new axle/ CV axle. His car is a FWD 2014 VW Jetta, does anyone have recommendations? I know we are trucks here, but I figured I'd ask. Really hoping it didn't f*ck up the tranny. Anything else I should make special note of?

thanks

Jeesh......100LBS each =400LBS? Come on man! 9% of your trucks weight is Rims? Come on man.................

Well my truck has about 9500 miles and got new bfgoodrich ko2 275/55r20 yesterday. One out of the four wheels needed too much wheel weight, 3.25 to be exact. Next Monday I'll be taking the truck for a fuel issue I'm having, they are installing a new fuel tank and gonna have them check that rim that ask for all that tape weight and again complain about the vibration issue I'm having at 75-80 mph.

Have CK156 Reps, I'm surprised they were lighter, the first set of wheels had specifically looked for some light wheels and these were even lighter.

Are yours after market wheels? These are GM CK160's. LOL

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
