Gotcha Chuck, you haven't said anything I disagree with... I just think BlackBear made an unfounded claim or implication several posts back that their tune could not be detected which is not the case.

Jenna in no way claimed their tune is I undetectable, u might re-read. This thread is only Global-A vehicles and is 100% detectable with the exception of 1 popular handheld programmer who claims to be undetectable.

Previous year silverado gas vehicles were undetectable if returned to stock calibration.

Correct and Chuck is correct as well.

The relationship you have with your servicing dealer is the best line of defense, and to tune smartly or use a very reputable tuner who will stand behind the tune if anything comes up.

I don't think any tuner will warranty your engine, just the tune, not enough money in it. I keep waiting for a tuner co. to offer an insurance policy to warranty the engine tuned say for 100 dollars more... anyone listening? Now if you go big tune like a supercharger they offer a warranty few a few dollars more.

A "warranty" would require an underwriter... performance tuning a vehicle would fall into a "high risk" category simply based on what you are doing to your vehicle. Tunes are, by design, focused on unleashing power and features that the manufacturer deemed un-necessary or unsafe for the normal consumer. This could open the door to a myriad of other things like higher insurance rates based on the perceived profile of people that do this and a classification as a high performance or race vehicle... I'll take my chances with the dealer and chose to not have to deal with the insurance companies. You might have to fight GM but you stand a higher chance of winning with them based on Magnuson Moss than you do with an unregulated insurance industry when they deny a claim, raise your rates or cancel your policy.

Its already being done in the supercharging industry, its easy money just like extended warranty. A tune adds little HP but it makes the driving experience better. I had one on every GM truck but this one, E85 adds more HP. A good tuner could make a killing, a tune done right does no harm. I have a supercharger on a 22 year old truck with one rebuild on the engine and trans. The only hurt come from people who don't know what they are doing, the warranty would weed then out. Get it.

Yea, I get it... it's just that simple. I've read the warranty for products like ProCharger... I think comparing a tune to a supercharger is a bit of a stretch but meh, to each their own.

Gotta get back to my BlackBear tune... thanks.

Only 100 HP, Have fun.

I have a good relationship with my dealer and they know about my tuning. They said once engineering requests a CVN history, I'm sol but they would do all they can to try to keep that from happening, whatever that consists of. I guess it just depends on what breaks.

You have to pay to play though, ;-)

I can just imagine the connections you have buy reading some of your post. I haven't gotten my hand in as deep as you but I have my fun.

I have about the same with my dealer and service tech... they were tickled when I bought the Denali with all the upgrades (22 inch wheels and Borla exhaust) and have gone out of their way to accommodate. My service tech knows that I am a modder and seems to be amused by my passion for power... they do all my service on my 2008 TBSS (tuned and modded), my G8 GXP (tuned and modded traded for the Denali) and now this truck. They know me and know I will be tinkering and that I know the rulez... if I "blow" it up, I pay for it.

All that said I have been talking to Hennesey... man I am tempted but $15K is a lot of money. Maybe next year! :driving:

My question to those concerned about your warranty...if you modify/tune your truck and something breaks as a consequence, do you really expect to get a free ride via warranty?

If not and you can't pay out of pocket to fix it, then I think the answer to your concern is self evident.

The prob is the knee jerk response, well your vehicle is tuned and caused it. That is not always the case. Me personally prob wont due much on the engine side other than change the fan settings and setup for a 160° stat. The transmission side is where I want to dig in. The truck has so much more potential on the transmission tuning.

The transmission can handle it GM know that, but they have to tune for the 60+ year old crowd out there would griped about felling the converter lock up, the quick shifts and firm shifts and so on. GM has to build the truck for the masses and leaves a lot of performance on the table.

Offerring a warranty would be something we would certainly look into if it was of interest to customers.

With respect to the 100% detection comments: nothing is 100%.

Not sure that I can be any more specific, there are ways around aftermarket tune detection even with the Global A counters.

Your PC is built that way, your appliances are built that way... most every modern consumer good has much more capability than the manufacturer releases to the consumer. Why, because we like to piss and moan and complain about recalls and the the hard/soft shift and the bumpy ride and the lack of this or too much of that... the manufacturers build things to get the least amount of complaints from the largest audience. The community on this board only represents a small segment of the owners of these vehicles and we seldom agree on anything here...

My point when we started talking about "why don't the tuners warranty" is that we the cost to warranty the tune would exceed the cost to buy the tune. Most of the tunes I have bought over the years are $200 - 300 mods... how attractive would the performance gain be if you had to buy an additional $500 insurance policy? Hennesey and Procharger offer warranty's when they supercharge your vehicle... for $15-20K I would hope so!!!

We don't want to be told what to do with the things we own but we don't want to be responsible for the outcome if it goes wrong. As I said I have a good relationship with my dealer... If I asked them to perform warranty work because a tire fell off they wouldn't give me any grief because I have a tune...however, If I go in there with a blown transmission and it isn't something that normally occurs with the factory settings... you see where I am going. My dealer works with me... I had an inch long scuff on the inside of the drivers door... I think it was there when I picked up the truck but maybe I did it. the dealer could have easily argued with me about the cause... the service manager looked me in the eye and said it's a $60K truck with 300 miles on it, we'll order a new door panel. I have confidence that if something goes wrong and I didn't cause it I'll get warranty service.

    • That should answer the maximum depth difference between the stock and the PPE so its not hugely lower. As to the PML pan, they don't make any claims that it fits the L8T with the same transmission and in fact leave their information confusing, however on the surface it says "for Duramax" and so its hard to say. I know a while back and not sure which brand it was that specifically stated that the extra capacity pan that particular company made did NOT fit the gas version.
    • There are several versions of the 5100's. Some for stock height, some for leveled, some for lifted.    Side note. I finally had a chance to tow with my 30' gooseneck with about 10,000 lbs of material on it this past week. Hands down the 5100's made the trailer towing much more stable and comfortable. I even had 10 cmu blocks in the bed. What a difference over the stock shocks.
    • According to PML, the stock pan is 4.3" deep - (PML info): Dimensions: at deepest area, PML pan is 7 inches, stock pan is 4.3 inches    PPE is 5.4" so roughly 1.1" deeper than stock
    • I had not realized that PPE has come out with a version of a cast aluminum oil pan specific to being able to fit onto the 10L1000 with the L8T engine sometime this spring. I was doubting that anyone would come out with something beyond what Dorman had in more of a direct factory pan swap. I see from one comment that is on the PPE site that they found the pan to be tighter to install then the factory unit and having to flex the exhaust down to fit it. I didn't lookup any specs if they have any as per how much lower it hangs but as it holds more oil and has fins outside the pan it would no doubt hang a certain amount lower.    I looked back at the site and they do have some depth measurements to get a rough comparison to the factory pan total height or hang down if you will at the front and rear of the pan so that will give a good idea how much further down this pan would end up being for ground clearance issues.    2024-2026 GM 6.6L Gas 10L1000 Heavy-Duty Cast Transmission Pan – Pacific Performance Engineering
    • I'm in constant amazement over the number of people that do oil maintenance by how they feel, what they were told, what materials cost, what brand A claims vs brand B.     Come to think of it, this behavior isn't exclusive to oil. 🤔 They drive this way too. 😬   There is a 20 plus page thread on BITOG on Mobil 1 Advanced Clean vs Valvoline Restore and Protect it would be amusing if it were not so........humanly pitiful.   Last Sunday we were are sitting at services and listening to a speaker talk about Jesus parable of the wide and narrow gates and he said something that hadn't dawned on me but totally fit the way people in general are about just about everything. He said there are so few people on the narrow path leading to a good reward not because the the narrow gate was hidden or hard to find but because the wide gate leading to a bad end it so darn easy and uncomplicated to follow!!!
