HPT has plenty of support for the 8L80E, the only thing they are missing as of now is the main pressure tables. They are still working on breaking the coding to that from what Bill said over there.

 

I went in and revised the shift times, reduced the downshift times by 50% and the upshift times by 45%. Shifts are very quick and firm still. May try to see how turn the shift torque management off on the up/down shifts feels, but as of now it shifts great to me.

In comparison to the 6 speed... no they aren't even close with the 8L90E... Give it a year or 6 lol..

WOW!

There's so much good info here!

I have contacted Jarrad and Justin at BB and looking forward to them coming to Austin for an in person tune...I just need to wait until Nov.

They have been very responsive to my questions, which tells me they are on it when it comes to customer service...and that means a lot and a deciding factor in many things.

 

Coming from driving a 1990 Silverado 350, to my 2016 Silverado 5.3, I'm a little disappointed at how this 2016 drives.

I just can't stand the V4 stuff, so I just keep my tranny in 5th...when I want to save gas, I drive my wife's Prius..LOL!

 

I'm glad I came across this forum and specifically this thread as I've learned a lot about my truck...like how I shouldn't be using 87 oct.

 

Well, I don't have much to add to this thread YET, but Thanks again for all the info!

Why is it that you should be using 87? I run 89 octane in my 5.3. This engine stock has 10 to 1 compression and believe it runs better with 89 and my 87 tune.

Haha...it should be "shouldn't" and not "should"...Fixed

 

As Jennabear has mentioned and explained, I now see why I need to use 89+ as she mentioned due to the high compression.

 

So your truck is tuned to 87oct?

I believe so yes. I received two tunes from BB, one for 89/87 octane and another for 91+ octane. I use the 89/87 tune with 89 octane and have had no issues. After I first installed my tune I had 87 octane and thought I would try the 89 and I believe I seen an improvement in my engine, as it seemed to run smoother.

I still have a momentary flop or "dead spot" from first to second but I did not get the advanced tuner so every-time I need an adjustment I need to go to BB. I would like to try and advance the timing a tic or two to see if that "dead spot" could get resolved. It is mainly under normal acceleration and not a full pedal shift. It does seem slightly better in manual mode but there is a noticeable difference between 2/3 shift compared to 3/4 shifts.

I am NOT a fan of the 6 speed and to me it is the only major downfall of the truck, second is no upgrade to the MyLink system, but that is miinor.

If I could get this trans to shift like my 4L60E which is in my 96 Corvette I would simply be delighted.

Has anyone who uses a Diablo tuner been to the dealer since installing a tune? They say it can't be seen, but I'm curious to hear from people on here.

I've had my tube for a while, but recently I've had a weird noise that I can't track down.

Did you Flash the transmission tune file along with the 89/87 file from BB?? I originally only loaded the 91+ file and my truck was not shifting very well. Once I realized I needed to Flash the Mod TCM file along with the ECM file all was perfect. My truck has more HP and shifts so much better.

St. Louis would be great. Seems like all the nearest in person tuning locations are 5-6 hours away.

I had the recall done today and I am pretty sure I lost my tune. The throttle feels much less sensitive was the first clue.

 

Can I re-flash using my Autocal, or does that negate the point of having the recall done in the first place? Is there an update tune that incorporates the recall?

Looking at my invoice it says:

 

Recall 16007 Sensing and Diagnostic Module reprogramming.

 

It seems to me like it would safe to reload my ECM and TCM tune. Right?

Hey guys just wanted to see if anybody else had this problem i have a 14 sierra 5.3 it's tuned by blackbear I really like the work Justin did so I recommend him. The truck only has 10k and it came up with a couple of codes this morning P2635 and P018B I want to take it into the dealer to see if they can check it out what are the chance they see the tune I flashed it back to stock and the codes went away but I'm sure they will come back up when the truck gets cold again what would y'all recommend?

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
