So frustrating to pay nearly 50k for a truck and have the interior rattle like a can of marbles. Guess thats what happens when GM has these trucks built in freaking Mexico. The interior of my 03 had no rattles at all. Of course, it was assembled at the Pontiac, MI assembly center. I wonder if there are any US-built 14-17 double cab owners with this same issue...

In your video there is a silver bracket. If you move it around it makes all kinds of noise. It is rivited to the wall and moves around. I tried sound deadner but it still rattled so i wedged a piece of speaker wire behind that bracket and I think that fixed it. I did all 4 seat belts earlier tonight..

Tried that wasn't it , so tonight I wedged a cloth in between my door and the b pillar , quieted the noise drastically, not gone but live able, also found 2 contact patches where my inner door molding is rubbing of my paint on the b pillar awesome ??

update on my truck, finally figured it 100% out, most of the noise was my door and b pillar tapping each other and creating the contact spots like I mentioned, but still had a slight noise, so I noticed when I weighted my side steps it faintly clicked, long story short I loosened and re torque my side steps correctly and tada, no more turtle sex in my left ear, Ill post pictures when I get the chance, I closed a rag in my door and let it sit like that for a few days, hopefully it tweaked the door a few mm to resolve that, now I need to figure out my paint issue, oh and I just rolled 3000 miles today, glad this one is leased :M16:

update on my truck, finally figured it 100% out, most of the noise was my door and b pillar tapping each other and creating the contact spots like I mentioned, but still had a slight noise, so I noticed when I weighted my side steps it faintly clicked, long story short I loosened and re torque my side steps correctly and tada, no more turtle sex in my left ear, Ill post pictures when I get the chance, I closed a rag in my door and let it sit like that for a few days, hopefully it tweaked the door a few mm to resolve that, now I need to figure out my paint issue, oh and I just rolled 3000 miles today, glad this one is leased :M16:

 

Great information. I need to try this as well! Does anyone know how much we should torque the side steps down?

Torque Spec is 13-15 ft lbs, but honestly just go tight with a normal 3/8 ratchet and don't muscle it too much, should be held in by speed clips so the worse you can do it bend the clips, and if you do crazy pull the rocker so don't go nuts, and 2 10mm bolts for the grab handle, step rip and tear, these clips are a gift from the devil himself so make sure you have a trim tool remover handy

And the way I torque them down is get all the bolts started , push the steps up slightly , bottom 2 inner first; 2 bottom outer and the upper 4 same order in then out

Thought I had a b pillar rattle on the passenger side.

 

Only happend sometimes. Turned out it was the position of the seatbelt tongue.

 

All is good now.

Thanks so much for your relentless effort to find where the turtles were fornicating. I will try this fix when I get a chance. I messed around with the tightness of my step bolts a few weeks ago and the ticking grew more faint. So this makes sense. Hopefully I can resolve it 100%.

I've got this same issue, but I don't have any side steps yet. I'll look and see if it's my seatbelt tapping the B-Pillar. Mine is on the passenger side tho.

Have a brand new 2017 Silverado, same issue and not even 100 miles on it yet. What side steps exactly are you talking about, the ones that are labeled Z71?

The steps on the exterior of the truck, the things you step on to leverage yourself into the vehicle. Not the door sill plates.

    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
    • I had an alternator fail that was shorted internally in such a direct fashion in addition to the larger gauge cables that it appeared like a VERY dead battery. Granted I think the car did power up, it definitely wouldn't start.   Rodent damage to wiring?

    • Using experience to justify bad advice is lazy and typical of someone incapable of articulating why their advice is prudent.    This immediately sets off the BS alert and the advice that followed certainly qualified.   Asking an idiot for help getting out of dumb situations because he is an expert... at getting himself into dumb situations.   Unless I've been living in an alternate universe - the first thing everyone does when getting into a sticky situation is shift to a higher gear 🤨.   Of course not, the torque multiplication, mechanical advantage and finer control typically afforded by the lower gear is far better suited for this scenario.   There ARE scenarios where a higher gear MIGHT be appropriate determined more by the drivers ability to control EXCESSIVE wheel spin versus applying torque to the ground.
    • I'm not sure I agree with "extreme" low speed, high torque sentiment here with regards to the prescribed use of low range. How about...whenever it's needed?   A 2.72:1 transfer case and whatever differential gears these Silverados have (3.42's, maybe?) aren't producing "extremely" low crawl speeds. Or insanely high torque multiplication. Even with the 1st gear in these newer transmissions. But it does provide mechanical advantage and potentially better control at slower speeds. And with extra weight or towing, I think it adds mechanical sympathy for the truck as well.   Plus, traction control and the other assists generally turn off when you shift into low range. Those aren't needed here, they'll work against you if you need wheel spin. In high range you'll need to figure out how to turn off the various modes those assists provide. Depending on the vehicle, those things don't all automatically turn off or turn completely off.   While I agree that a farmer might have some great practical experience, a recommendation to "always" using one gear isn't very informed advice. If the farmer had said WHY and could explain the physics behind his prescriptive "always" I'd definitely listen. The way he's described here makes it sounds like he could either be uninformed or is telling everyone what worked for him, not necessarily that there could be a more advantageous way about things.
