I would never go back to this particular dealership based on everything I saw there. My local dealership, on the other hand (which also happens to be where my company gets a bunch of our trucks from) is awesome. Largest dealership on this side of the country (or so they claim). They own both GMC and Chevy dealerships and most salesmen are able to sell both brands. I told them I definitely wasn't buying a 2019 SLE they had and they still threw the keys at me and told me to bring it back the next day. (Though maybe they were planning to strip my car and sell it for parts while I was gone. ?) The only downside was them trying to convince me to buy the 2019 because they "knew" there was "no way" GM would be putting the 10 speed in any 2020s with the 5.3...

I don't know where the offending dealer got information stating that GM would not be putting the 10 speed transmission  in a 5.3L powered 1500.

They sure as heck are ........

Here' the official GMC announcement:

Very expensive? No relatively cheap for what you are buying! Everything is relative to ones scope of experience, in fact they are no more expensive than they ever were and safer, easier to drive and more creature features than their predecessors.

Back in 1960 my dad paid $2,000 for a new Impala when current $1.00 size Hershey bars cost $0.05, a carton of cigarettes was $2.00, gas was $0.23 a gallon and $1500/oz. gold was $35.00/oz. and average salary was less than $4,000 yr.And all the Impala had was power steering, power brakes, tube radio and two antennae. Today a comparable Impala is $40,000 (for an inflation factor of 20x) which is about the same as a moderately equipped truck....with air conditioning, power windows and door locks, seat belts, air bags radial tires, antilock brakes, etc, etc. So no.....no more expensive than they ever were.....and they come with a lot more crap to break.

And as far as dependability, $hit happens to those that go looking for it. Fuel injection, electronic ignition....Haven't had a car flood while trying to start or stall out on the highway in 30 years or had to jamb a screwdriver to open the choke and shoot in ether on a freezing morning.....turn the key or now push the button and no more thinking. People complain about the first hard 1-2 upshift  after a cold start....try driving 60s GM 2 speed Powerglide that holds first to 40 mph before to shifting 2nd like a mule kicked it in the ass.

Over 3K miles on my '19 Silverado and not a thing wrong with it. Same goes for my '18 Traverse and Malibus, in fact the Traverse rides better than any Chevy (possibly with the exception of the '74 Impala Custom which got 6 mpg on a 454 cid) I've owned in the past 50 years. No matter what you buy same metal, rubber, plastic and electronic crap in all of them assembled and painted by robots. Want to maximize you're odds, go for pick of the litter, test drive them all, forget about color, buy with a "1" or "2" in the VIN, cross your fingers and dump when the warranty is up.........works for me.

After all, it's only a freakin' truck. Love my wife and kids and keep them for the duration, like my dogs and keep for their lifespan, but the truck? always a newer one with more features waiting on the lot.

What he ^ said, except I keep mine till about 200K miles.

Sorry that your having issues, and don't want to rub it in, but my 19 slt has over 13K miles and no issues worth mentioning and has only been to the dealer for the free oil changes...

Any and all brands have issues, and the issues are increasing because of the Tech, the tech most of us demand.

Cpl .....

Why not speak with the offering dealer, even though he is 36 hours away.

;Let him know where you're located and ask what sort of DEAL he'd be willing to cut you.

Your local dealer probably couldn't offer you as good of a deal as the posted truck.

Local dealer would have to pay for transport and then some.

If the offering dealer comes up with a GREAT deal, make an extended weekend trip with the wife or girlfriend .... may be both (((( chuckle ))))

The trip back would make a fabulous test drive.

By the way, $55K does NOT sound like a great deal.

I picked up my 2019 Sierra 1500 with the SLT Plus Package and the X-31 setup ... I paid $52K plus taxes.

MSRP Sticker was a little over $62K

Remember that I'm in Canada. Multiply all my prices by about 0.75 for FOREX.

The other 2018 SLE was looking at had an MSRP of about $60k. Dealership had marked it down to $48k and were willing to give me another $1000 off as a preferred pricing member.

Sorry Rosy,

I missed that you were in Canada.

I'm a member of an international Triumph sports car club.

I know of many members who have parts delivered to members just across the boarder here in the States,

pick them up or install them on their cars and then drive home to avoid the tariffs and get less expensive shipping.

How times change. When I was in my 20's the Canadian dollar was worth more than a USA Dollar.

OK, This is the 4th software upgrade done on my 2019 Sierra T! to remedy a BLUE SCREEN ERROR NOTICE,

for the back up camera not working.  Drove the car out of the dealer and it worked fine. Later the same evening

in a pitch black parking lot the camera failed to link again.

Some one here had mentioned that the computer may be booting to slowly to recognize all peripheral equipment.

He said he was told to NOT PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR until the computer went to a normal screen.

Doing  this didn't help him and it has not helped me.

GM Techs Don't Know How To FIX This Problem !

Yeah, last time our dollar was on par with yours, a friend of mine went to the States to buy an STS-V because it was so much cheaper that way - and he worked as a car salesman!

Definitely sucks that you're having such issues with a new truck, is there any chance of a buy back through lemon law?

Wizzard/Steve

Though I'm disgusted with that lack of service department knowledge and  inability to solve my back up camera problem ... I do love the truck.

I'm not so sure how the lemon law works in NYS or if it would even apply to this sort of problem but I know I'll have to look into this.

It's my last resort.

For now, I'd love to have a sit down wot the regional service representative or even a phone conversation with someone at GM who is actually knowledgeable.

Does any one know how to contact a regional manager?

I've spoken multiple times with GMCs Customer Service Department at

I honestly think that most of the T1 Debbie Downers who are K2 loyalists would have a much softened POV if they actually sat in a T1 and test drove it.

I went to my dealer in March 2019 with the intention of buying a loaded out 2018 heavily discounted, or a gently used Denali. Once I sat in the front and rear of my RST, it was a done deal. I just knew I would have buyer's remorse if I bought a K2.

The T1s are improved in every single way. It's not even close. No disrespect to those who enjoy their K2s. I enjoyed my 2007 GMT-900 for 12 years, and was pleased with it. But when it was time to upgrade, I'm beyond happy I skipped the K2 and went straight to the T1 platform.

I've been lucky in that, after 9 months and 6500 miles, I haven't had one single issue. No electrical gremlins, leaking windows, nothing. Did my 8 speed have some harsh shifting for the first few thousand miles? Yes. Did my crappy Ranchos bother me with their terrible rebound performance on the rear end? Yes. Have both of those issues dissipated since then? Yes.

Transmission shifts like butter now, and my $20 exhaust hack makes my truck sound nearly like it has performance exhaust.

Fun as hell to own and drive - not to mention it looks smoking hot going down the road with the new, aggressive front end styling.

Here's to hoping my transmission smoothes out like yours did, and the rancho shocks get better.. (wondering if they ever come out with Bilsteins how much better they will be)

I get looks and compliments all the time on my SLT ...  I'm happy with it so far :)

Thank's to realize   this not T1 against K2 but don't shove down my throat that  the T1 is better. The truck is still ugly both the GMC and the Chevy only in the front end.Boy since I got the fluid changed in my transmission I would never change my truck for a T1.

    • I gotta say, I'm enjoying your narration. The troubles you've been having are amusing as you describe them. It's good to see that you're finally getting some satisfaction out the old beast though.
    • Declaring victory would upset the demons that possess this Blazer, so I won't. But I did make progress today--after it put up a fight. Always a fight.   I had the day off so I spent the morning cleaning up the shop and I thought I'd get ahead of things by filling the cooling system in prep for the final part I needed to arrive: the driver's side knock sensor. Glug, glug, glug....and then the unmistakable sound of liquid hitting the shop floor. It induces the same chagrin when the sonar and targeting laser temporarily malfunction during a late night bladder evacuation over the toilet with the bathroom light off. D'OH!!! That made a mess...   Oh, hey, that knock sensor I removed? It threads into a wet port. Who knew?! Learn something new every day. Put a pin in that chore, I'll fill it the rest of the way later.   The knock sensor arrived at about 1pm. I threaded it in, connected the wire, filled up the coolant, checked for leaks, and... drumroll.... fingers crossed for a perfect start, excellent timing, model fuel trims, and ...no squeaks... Here goes.....   No, it didn't start. At all. I cranked it a few times and it wasn't sounding good. Furthermore, I heard leaking again. Jesus H Tapdancing Christ, stop leaking all over the dang floor. This time I had accidentally overfilled the coolant reservoir and the churn of the water pump via cranking caused a bit to burp out. Ok, just, breathe... Put the flamethrower down. Dang thing wouldn't burn anyway, leaks too much...   Did you know the rotation of a round crank sensor in a round hole, matters? I do now. Took me about half hour to retrace steps and realize what I had done. Then it started right up.   No squeaks. The squeak was the old balancer.   Once it entered closed loop, fuel trims are dead on, hovering right around zero at idle. No more -30%. I'll credit the injector rebuild on that one.   Timing? I think there's an OBD 1.5 translation error with my Actron scanner. It's anywhere from -20 to -30 at idle, sometimes as high as -40 cruising. Sorry, the engine just isn't running that smoothly at -40 degrees ignition advance. It's just not. It's smooth all through the rev range and has decent power. I'm going to have to trust the seat of my pants on this one.   The new exhaust is very quiet. The old catalytic converter? Not melted, but definitely not healthy. Rains glitter when you turn it on its end...all the precious metal is flaking out. Once the new exhaust system burned in/smoked off a bit, the engine's exhaust smell is normal again. Not that I'd recommend going around huffing car exhaust, but, you know what I mean?   One problem to correct. The new exhaust has the opposite problem of the old spliced up exhaust. It wants to hit the floor where the old one wanted to rest on the cross member. Happy medium, please? Still noodling on that one, need to look at how I can adjust some hangers.   I don't know what's next. On one hand I want to run away from this thing as far and as fast as I can -- there have been a lot of NOT fun moments. On the other, now that it kinda drives nice, maybe drive it around for a little bit?   Shhh... it's not currently dripping oil all over the floor. I can see just a little wet at the bottom of the timing cover where it meets the oil pan seal. It's not dripping multiple drops with every ignition cycle, in fact, after some driving this evening it has yet to even form a drop that could drip off yet. But the weekend is young... I fully expect this could turn into Exxon Valdez by Sunday. Because this Blazer hates me. LOL.
    • About that:   Once upon a time in a land far far away lived a car company that was shy about taking your money and wanted to be sure that they gave you more that you asked for so that you'd come back. No really, not a fairytale. 😱   But after the field got thinned out enough to limit the competition it seemed good enough to give you only what you asked for. Fair enough I say but in such a market you have to give something the others are not or they go to the one who does. Gimmicks or glitz. Oh, fins and chrome. Yea, shinny crow like cars. Yum.    Field narrows a bit more and 'brand loyalty' becomes a thing and the minute it does they start thinking to themselves, "Could we make more money if we gave them less than they expect and they will hang in there for brand and comfort with the known?" They gave it a try and da*n, it worked!!    Well, what if we teach them, groom them into believing that less is "Normal" and cut some more corners. Will that work? Oh heck yea!    🤔 I wonder, can we give then WAY less than they expect and make them mad enough to spit nails and STILL get them to pay up? Sure, if we get everyone else to do the same so that the choice is less or nothing at all. How would be do that? Platform sharing.  What a concept, right?  Steal like there is no tomorrow and it's legal too!    Truth is no one is going to give up driving, not for very long. The Gen Z crowd is fine with it and will be as long as someone not Gen Z will haul them around. At some point we all die.    Economic voting only works if you cast a NO vote now and again and enough of them to get dumb and dumber to wise up. Well, that's how I was taught anyway. And it should have worked. Would have worked. But the Bail out!!   Look, you have another choice if  you take that bag off your head. If the dumb it down to some predetermined expectation of how John Q Public will use it the, that is under design it to failure they you use it to a lower stress mode. D'ho!    A 1950 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 will go anywhere a Suzuki Hayabusa will and for just as long. But you will have to treat it for what it is and not for what you wish it was.
    • Maybe I was just too unlucky, but I had nothing but bad luck with Bridgestones. Out of 3 sets, they all started losing a lot of air when they got down to about 1/2 tread life, and at that point also wet traction suffered more than it should have. Also, the only tire I ever had in my 60 years of driving that had a side wall blow out was a Bridgestone.   I'm currently running Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT and am very happy with them.
    • maybe when the trip is over, check all the other joints in the front end, like all the ball joints, tie rods, pitman & idler arms, etc...
