If jumping brands is what you are referring to it won't help IMO. No need to be rude because he likes GM products. GM doesn't have to care due to rising sales for 10 years.

didn't say it was junk. I think GM has the best engineers in the business. Love the look. But little things like rubber window seals shouldn't be dry rotting after 2 years. Heated seats stopped working after 3. The quality of what they are putting into their vehicles are not as good as they should be.  Update: Got my AT4 back after 2 days in the shop. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. Reset the ECM. Seems to be working fine now. Time will tell.

People just dont learn I've seen that working at dealerships across all brands ford is this way too, just ridiculous but that's what they do.

Best engineers in the business.  Compared to what.....Chrysler?

Actually I think they may have some very poor engineers right now.  They need to tap into some Honda and Crapota engineers and get the longevity and reliability aspects improved, and perhaps tap into Chrysler engineers to improve the looks, because the 2019+ Silverado looks like total ******.

7/6/20: I may have everyone beat on my timeline to frustration. Just purchased new 2020 GMC AT4 from Van GMC Buick in Scottsdale 3 DAYS AGO! The assembly date is June 20, 2020! It ran great the first two days... day 3, won't start. Total of 170 miles on the truck. Same issues that everyone has noted. Came outside, tried to open her up with the key fob and the battery was completely dead. Had to open manually. Kept trying to start it and it finally lights up... but was running very rough with knocking. This morning, started it up and it ran great. Dropped it off at dealer and they tell me there are no codes, it's running fine, the alternator and the battery look good. So I send them the videos below and a link to this thread... No word yet but will keep you all posted. So incredibly frustrating. Love the truck but now have to worry about this... what happens if it doesn't start when my family and I are in the middle of the woods camping/hunting? Ridiculous. 2020 could not get any worse. 

7/8/20: UPDATE: Dealer thinks they found the problem: Loose UBEC Bolts. There was a recent bulletin posted on 6/26/20 about this that may be the cause for this issue as a whole. Ask for document ID 5628169 or the following title for the GM bulletin: #PIT5756: Various Electrical Concerns (Inspect UBEC Bolts for Being Loose) - (June 26, 2020). SEE ATTACHED

 

Condition: Some customers may comment on any number of electrical related symptoms. The following are some of the known reported ones:

  • no crank
  • no start
  • starter grinds or re-engages after engine starts
  • SES MIL
  • IPC guages sweep/fluctute and/or various IPC warning lights or messages
  • High or low system voltage
  • May have any of the following DTC's: B1325, B2750, B305D, B297B, C0049, P0562, P0700, U0100, U0101, U0102, U3006
  • some of these concerns may be noticed with powertrain movement, like when accelerating or braking. 

 

Cause: These concerns could be caused by the X50A underhood fuse box bolts being loose. The X50A has built in indicators which pop up as the X50A bolts are tightened down, to inidcate the X50A is fully installed. In some cases, even if these green indicators are popped up, the bolts may still be loose. 

 

Correction: Inspect the X50A Underhood Fuse Block bolts and verify they are properly torqued to 53 lb in (6Nm)

 

Dealer stated that my box was indeed loose (that's what she said). Has not been able to replicate issues. Really hoping this is the fix for my truck and all of yours. Will update forum either way. Best of luck. 

 

UPDATE: 7/14/20. I have had no issues with the truck so far. I start and drive it every day. I really hope this was the simple fix; hopefully you guys give it a try and it works. You can do this fix yourself. I've attached the bulletin for everyone here. Good luck.

Thanks for the fix!  Tripped both P0700 and U0100 today and found this.  Those 4 bolts were only at about 15 inch-pounds, and the green indicators were up.  Talked to my service rep at the dealer to cover my arse and not void anything.  Tightened them to 53 and the CEL was off at the next start!!!

Thanks for posting the bulletin about those bolts in the fuse block. I checked mine and all four were loose. It took each of them about 3/4 of a turn to get them to the spec of 53 inch/lbs. I’ve been having some intermittent electrical gremlins and CEL codes, so we’ll see if this helps.

Good to hear. Hopefully this worked. I will say, I have not had a single issue with the truck since the dealer tightened the bolts. Went on a few big trips, camping, etc. It's running like a champ.

Same here - no issues since.  I haven't towed since the fix, but I am hoping this cures the trailering app gremlins I was encountering.

My turn with this issue today.  Went to start this morning, completely dead.  No dome lights, no attempt to turn over.  Tried jumping off a small car and no dice.  Called roadside assist, they got it going after a few attempts.  Took to dealer, they did the slow charge test on the battery, says it is in amazing condition and had no idea what could have drained it.  Came to this thread, opened the hood and each bolt took several turns to tighten.  If you own this truck, check your fuse box bolts to preempt the issue.  Glad this did not happen to me camping.  8500 miles, BTW, and first issue.

Just checked mine. About 1 turn each bolt to tighten. Never had any problems but wanted to be proactive on this. Thanks for the heads up.

    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
