Keep in mind that GMT900s had their share of problems when they first came out in 2007. Leaking rear main seals, lint collecting cloth seats, bumpers that would dent if you sneezed too hard, AFM shudder, AFM oil burning issues, etc.

'14 Sierra AT w/ 20" wheels. 670 miles now.

 

Finally got it on the interstate saturday, cracked 70 and the front end & steering wheel vibrated quite a bit getting worse up to 80 but never went faster.

 

The return trip yesterday was hampered by weather, but the couple times I was over 70 I didn't notice the vibrations as much - hoping the front end just needed to break in a bit.

 

Have other issues that the dealer needs to work on, going to get it out again before I take it in to see if the vibration comes back...hopefully it doesn't come back.

Sorry to disappoint you, but front ends do not break in. They usually just break. If you feel vibration now, it is going to come back and get worse until the problem is corrected.

Having not noticed it on the way back, I'm hoping I just had some ice frozen in one of the front wheels...

That would be the best outcome! I had too many vehicles in my life to know that front end problems do not cure themselves though.

As a side note, I have a friend that sells Goodyears (a large regional company) and he says they are having all kinds of problems with these SR-A's...thinks there is a problem with the mold and they are all "round", but all have side to side movement!! He thinks it will be a while, but fully expects a recall on these tires....

 

Any idea if this recall is really going to happen. I've been reading some horrible blogs/reviews on the internet the last few days outside our forums about these tires now that most of the country is seeing winter conditions.

My friend, the Goodyear rep, has no idea WHEN the recall will happen...but he is fairly positive it will....GM could get off their AS# and pressure Goodyear to act....and more importantly GM could get all of us some answers to the problem continuing after a tire brand change has been done on our beloved 2014 Siverados and Sierras..........

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for that. My current goodyears are fine, but a chance to get new tires for free. hot dog.

Got my truck about 4 months and 9000 miles ago (double cab 4x4 5.3 w/3.42) and seem to notice that I only have the vibration when I have a trailer hooked up. I have tried multiple trailers and it's the same, so not in the trailer. Took it to the dealer with the trailer hooked up, they pit on the service ticket that it was possibly an overloaded trailer. 3000 lbs max, and I thought these trucks were supposed to have the highest towing capacity they ever had. They also had something to say about my leveling kit being on there. And then proceeded to tell me there was a difference in mine and the 10 they had sitting on the lot that they had installed.

I posted this a while ago in more detail. In short light aluminum open trailer (two quads)=bad vibration. Heavy trailer (camper) no vibration. Service tech wants to see the truck with the trailer but haven't had time to waste yet.

I too have faced this problem. Noticed vibration above 60 mph on the way home from the dealer and returned the next week and they performed a road force balance and replaced a bad tire. Drive home and the vibration persist. Next week took it to another dealer locally and they did a road force balance (even though I told them it was just done). They say the tires are fine but that they are getting at least one 2014 silverado a week with this vibration issue and havent been able to fix a single one. Service manager basically told me there was nothing he could do and hopefully GM would provide a solution soon. 40k truck and it is miserable to drive on the highway and now it's starting to have a vibration at even lower speeds. Jennifer T., please tell us that GM is aware of this issue and working to find a solution quickly!

GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REALLY SUCKS ....i am waiting on a gm specialist to call me so we can set up a appointment so he can go and test drive the truck. FOR WHAT REASON MY DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO FIX ......looks like they are stalling to buy more days and time.. I WISH THEY WOULD JUST BUY MY TRUCK BACK.......

I had the road force balance done as well. They said that they were as in balance as possible, but rebalanced anyway and when I got back on the road at around 65 it immediately started back. Maybe worse than when I took it in. I'm getting ready to drive from South Carolina to TX, FL, and Mass in jan and don't want this problem aggravating me all the way.

      Thanks to the convenience of Amazon, I was able to get a few things done to the truck today.  I installed Carquest Premium oil and air filters with five quarts of Mobil1 High Mileage 10-30 along with a quart of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 I already had.  The latch for the flip up center console lid was broken so I replaced it along with the power mirror switch.  I found my push retainer assortment this morning and reattached the plastic under the bumper and it was only held on with a few screws and retainers.  Then I programmed a new remote keyless entry fob so I can lock my dog in the truck when I take her out with me (I've got to keep the air going for her since it's been in the 100s).  Finally, I ordered some LED interior bulbs and replaced the reading lamps.  The front lights are working fine while one of the back lights only works intermittently and the other not at all.   While under the truck, I found the source of at least one of the noises: the sway bar links need replacing.  I ordered a set of Suspension Dudes links with Code Red bushings.  Never heard of them, but they're made in the USA and have decent reviews.  While making yet another Amazon order, I went ahead and added a set of front tow hooks.  I went with red, since that's the color of the sway bar link and bushings and it should look decent enough on a black and chrome truck.  Speaking of which, it doesn't bug me much, but the passenger side mirror has a chrome cap while the driver side doesn't, so eventually I'll make them match one way or another.  Oh, and I ordered a $20 TPMS reset tool.  No idea if it will do anything for my sensors but it was cheap and will work for the Ford Transit Connect as well.     For tradition's sake, I ordered a new oil change wrench.  I kept the Snap-On 9/16"x15mm GM wrench I bought when I was 18 in the 2006 GMC from the time I bought that truck until the truck was lost.  While I was tempted, there's no need to spend $80 for a new SO wrench, or even $50 with shipping for a used one on Ebay.  I just bought a Duratech 15mm extra-long ratcheting wrench to do the job as needed.  It works, and if I like that wrench enough, I'll buy the set.

      The recall is for exactly this issue - those drain holes combined with the limited environmental capability of the tailgate electronics card inside the tailgate were a problem. The “safety issue” was the potential for the tailgate to spontaneously open, but all kinds of tailgate misbehavior can occur from water contamination of that control card.    There is no real fix yet. The initial recall just disabled the tailgate. Later, when parts became available, they would replace bad parts with new parts of the same bad design. My dealer is going nuts because the few times I let them get their hands on my truck, my tailgate is off due to a slide-in camper installation. They really want to cut my tailgate wires, but I won’t give them the chance. I will let them get their dirty hands on it when a real fix (redesign) is available.  My tailgate, which works just fine with sealant plugging the drain holes, will remain safe in a dry storage crate until then.

      Yes your absolutely right, I been looking at the 4 inch BDS one and it acutely states you can use the stock 20’s just not the 17’s or 18’s, I also didn’t realize that with my 275/60r20 stock wheels I’m already running 33 inch diameter wheel setup lol so I can just run my stock wheels and tires atleast to start.

      I would expect that to be lift-kit dependent.  If the kit has interference issues w stock wheels, then the kit/manufacturer should indicate that somewhere.

      That’s what I’m wondering is if the stock backspacing of the factory wheels will clear new upper control arms and such
