Ok, so I swapped my 22's (Bridgestone Dueller A/T RH-S) for my 18's (Goodyear Wrangler SRA with the whit outline, not black) and did a fair amount of driving today here are my impressions:

The 18's lead to a very "floaty" feel of the ride, the road noise is also increased. The ride doesn't really seem to have changed at low speeds, the truck still has a light vibration, once I hit about 40-45 or so up to about 55-60 the vibration became much worse, even worse than the 22's, and a couple time the truck started to shake/ rock to either side. my truck has never done this before. above 60 mph or so, the vibration is about equivalent to the 22's.

a second thing that happened was the TPMS system stopped working, when i swapped them yesterday, it was fine as was the case for the first 45 mins or so today. however once I hit the highway today, i got the "service" warning and the Tire Pressure light came on. thinking maybe I picked up a nail and was losing air or something, I pulled over and checked all the tires, got back in the truck and looked at the pressure readings, my right rear tire wasnt listed. I shut the truck off to try to reset it, but it didn't work. Shortly there after the other three tires lost their pressure readings. just to clarify, the rocking side to side happened after I lost the Pressure sensor system, no clue if or why that would affect anything, but I highly doubt it should.

now for a question, I was talking to a guy with a new silverado today, hes had it for 800 miles now, and has had to replace the battery 4 times, also his radio will not turn off even after he turns the truck off, and leaves. he says that even 15 mins after leaving the truck, he can go back out and the radio will still be playing. I have found some posts from years ago indicating that it is either a relay in the door, or a switch sticking somewhere else in the truck. has anyone seen this in their new ones or heard of it being a big issue with other new trucks? I havn't so just thought I'd check, ohh and his dealer said that they think the radio is bad, but GM didnt authorize a replacement so they wouldn't spend $700 of their own money to try it.

You have to register the TPMS sensors with the truck after you switch wheels. Each sensor has a unique number that is registered by the computer and then that number is assigned a location, front right, front left and so on. Switching corner locations but keeping the same sensors the pressure readings will still show but be in the wrong location, the computer doesn't know you moved the fronts to the rear or however they were switched. Switching your rim set altogether to a set that has a second set of sensors installed requires that the new set of sensors be registered into the computer and then assigned their location. I have two sets of wheels and tires as well and it usually takes 30-45 minutes before the computer realizes there is no sensor data and the values disappear from the display. I'm not sure if the computer can have more than four unique sensors registered to it or not. Apparently moving the wheels and tires during a tire rotation and telling the computer where the wheel is located can be done with a 70 dollar tool. But telling the computer that there are different sensors than before and registering them takes a much more expensive tool. A local shop here in town said the one they have is $1700. They do the sensor registration for free.

jesus, thats nice of them to do the registration for free, and good to know about it taking a while to register, I had them wheels swapped at the shop my family has been using for over a decade and just assumed they registered them with the truck. I have a bad knee so I didnt feel like changing them myself. thats bullshit to have to pay for shit like that, it should be like a bluetooth thing that automatically knows... anyway they can make a quick buck though i guess

mine is fixed!!!

hopefully it doesn't come back.

new rear axle assembly and new tires seemed to do the trick. looks like mine was a combination of f couple of issues.

congrats man

Got mine if freeway w the new in spec SRAs and it is fine intill 77mph + before it was 60+ and intermittant

well thats better than nothing right?

You can borrow my tpms tool, here is how you do it.

Thanks Bill, let me know when you have some time to go on that test drive with the 18's on, I'd like to get your opinion on how it affected the truck, it'll be interesting to see if you think it affected it the same way as I do. I'll be putting the 22's back on after so I think I'll take you up on the TPMS relearn tool for that.

Just confirmed vibration with another dealership.

I have been reluctant about pushing my regular service manager as he is my best friend and do not want to ruin the relationship over a truck.

I went to a dealership about 25 miles away but in the town I work.

Told him I have a 2014 Silverado with a vibration and has he heard about it.

Yep, they have half about a dozen complaints at their facility mostly highway vibrations. They helped one guy out by changing driveline angles, in his words the truck owner could live with it although the vibration was still there.

He confirmed that it is a driveline vibration and GM is aware but no fix yet.

How about tonight around 6:30 PM ?

this truck is getting weirder and weirder by the day. I just got back to my house, and when I put the truck in Park, the horn went off 2x, no clue why. the vibration feels worse at slow speeds today than it did yesterday. I havn't hit the highway yet today, so that will be determined in a short while.

Your horn probably honked because it picked up the seonsors in your other tires you have at home. When the vehicle senses tpms sensors it honks.

only problem is, my tires aren't at home, they are at the shop I use. any other ideas?

Are all 4 tires registered now ?

no, I'm just not going to bother registering the 18's, I'll re register the 22's when I put them back on haha

I just wish we would skip the SRAs and go to a better tire then id bet i would be fine..... Why they play this SRA game is beyond me. The worst is 3 of the 4 tires are used takeoffs. Not excited by that either

Ok so the dealer has had my truck for 1 week now. I went to pickup the truck the first time last Wednesday and was told vibration was fixed road forced the tires and replaced 1, before I even got off the lot I noticed a scratch on the steering wheel bezel and a door chip on the driver's side. I left the truck for them to fix these issues, I just left the dealership where they did what looks to be a really good touch up on the door and replaced the steering wheel, I drove the truck and it still has a vibration it's better but still there at 70-80 they also managed to put the steering wheel on misaligned and scratched the chrome on the airbag this time. The other issue I am fighting is the truck seems to pull to the left when in the left lane and to the right when in the right lane, they say it's the nature of the truck even though the loaner does not do it.

I am sort of at a loss at this point as so far I have 12 plus hours just in drive time away from my business and still don't have my truck. I was told that it would be 3-5 days before they could get the airbag. I was also told in order to replace the airbag that they would have to punch holes in both sides of the steering wheel to which I said NO it's a new truck so make it right. I really don't have a very good feeling about this

    • Yes I agree, its what amounts to free advertising to let people know about his UOA testing company, and not that there is anything wrong with that but certainly that is a motivator for putting out videos about the science of oil as well as other topics such as oil and air filtration etc. The interesting part I found with his last video is not only the physics behind the reason for the varying wear due to a diesels working torque range causing more bearing load and that higher viscosity oil is of benefit, it was also that the chemistry behind the GM Dexos 0W-20 and the Mobil Dexos licensed 0W-20 are far enough apart that its showing up with a difference in wear even though the two oils are matched in viscosity and in that comparison viscosity was not having the finger pointed at it.    There are a few youtubers out there or one anyway that I have watched a bit of who has gone through the pains of accessing various countries manuals for a certain engine platform and while in the US/Canada it may say use 0W-20 or what have you for some Toyota product, in some other countries it sings a very different tune for the very same engine with the typical traditional oil viscosity/ambient temperature charts to help choose which oil viscosity is correct for the conditions the vehicle will be used in and in some cases its taken an engine in a US manual that states only use 0W-20 as per warranty coverage and yet that same engine in certain other countries may have up to a 15W-40 etc oil option that meets the spec. Another words the guy who is driving through Death Valley or Phoenix and south weather at 120f is often being fed a line of bs by the US system that has forced vehicle companies to restrict the warranty to a specific low viscosity oil for anterior reasons as well as the long drain interval suggestions.    Thankfully youtube is free ( yet anyway ) for viewers to sift through information and of course comes with the good and the bad ( truth and lies ) and we can choose to turn off/not watch what a person finds is bs or just not interested in the topic.
    • No doubt... But, as someone who doesn't pay for his services, but who has provided a few views/clicks on his Youtube platform, the data around the Mobil oil testing I think does have some value including to "freeloaders" like me.   A lot of what he's doing is likely showing the OE's work in their oil selection, something that many of us had kind of assumed was true all along, a good balance of both excellent protection and efficiency.
    • Lake Speed is drumming up business for his company just by being in the spot-light so he has a vested interest in stoking the 0W-20 fire.  IMO
    • I knew when I bought my truck that it had off road hill decent or craw control or whatever they call it and rolled my eyes at that but it gets throw on with other options my truck has, I just never had a heads up if the highway speed regular cruise setting had anything to do with the brakes and that took me by surprise. If you've ever been to the top of Pikes Peak and watched those ahead of you on the way down with their brake lights on constantly, one can guess they are probably not gearing down or not enough anyway if their vehicle will allow and a good reason their is a brake check spot part way down where they use an infra red heat gun to check how hot ones brakes are front and rear.    Your right that once one gets out of the front range by Denver and I've not been on that stretch of 285 between Denver and Fairplay myself but I know its high and Fairplay at 10000 feet, Buena Vista at 8000, it drops a bit from there but then your going back up and over the 11000 pass and Durango is at 6500 . So yes your definitely right that 6500 and a lot higher is the theme of going anywhere out in that direction from Denver but hey, the down hill sections give fantastic fuel mileage !.    I don't even look at the fuel pumps for what premium costs here, since I live on a farm and up to this point get fuel delivered I am rarely in front of a fuel pump and when I am, I am often using card lock bulk fuel stations so it tells me what the price is AFTER I buy the fuel. Looking up on gas buddy and converting to US gallons but in Canadian dollars, regular on average of the prices listed was around 5.95 and premium is around 7.00 . That was one reason I did not go for the 6.2 half ton aside from its lack of carrying/towing if one was going by the rule of using premium fuel and until recently one could only buy regular farm gas if playing the few cents off game for farm dyed fuel for a "farm licensed pickup". But yes I hear you on the fuel price difference and like the diesel theme with it often being more expensive then gas it doesn't have quite the charm to it either as it once did although right now here for some reason the price of diesel has come down more so its now inline with the price of regular gas.
    • I agree with this assessment. As you know I’m testing longevity with vehicles for the first time. I have a few vehicles I passed to kids and grandkids. We’re all past 100K miles some approaching 170K. I’m the only one doing 5k oil changes. The rest whatever the minder says. I’m the only one doing frequent transmission service. My odyssey the trip vehicle at 200K will be finished as a trip vehicle. I recently changed to high mileage oil, Valvoline. I can’t get past the fact that all manufacturers want to claim long service life. I just don’t make sense that they would go with low weight oil for mileage. While sacrificing longevity.
