Not too sure about the quality of the GM U-bolts, but couldn't cranking them that tight potentially cause some type of other issues, whether it be with weakening the bolts themselves, or something?

I'll tell you what will likely happen....

They will RFB the tires and check the wheels for roundness.

They will determine that 1 or more tires is way out of spec (excessive road force) and replace them with ones that are "in spec" (note that GM is now using much tighter standards on their tires than any other manufacturer including the tire manufacturers them selves) because they feel that it is the a cheaper hopeful fix for them

Now the dealer will call you and say that your truck is all set, and the vibe is/ should be gone.

You will go pick your truck up and begin driving only to find that the vibe is still there... possibly reduced some, but still there nonetheless.

You will come back here saying the vibe is still there after the dealer replaced X number of tires.

Now you will be contacting the dealer again to get the truck in again for another "fix" that likely won't work.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is happening so often, everyone knows the process by heart now lol.... Good Luck though, lets hope I'm wrong and you're one of the very few lucky ones.

This seems to be the GM approved course of action to make it look like they are actually fixing the vibration problem. They know that a good percentage of people will eventually get frustrated to the point where they will just trade the truck in on something else.

Well I still have a vibration after visit #3. Visit 1 and 2 focused mainly on the tires. RF and replaced two of the stock crap SRAs. Visit 3 they hooked up a PICO scope so they say. They say it's smooth. Bullshit. I have a constant subtle vibration above 60 that I can feel in the steering wheel, center console and my seat on occasion. I asked to speak with the tech but he was "in a meeting". Service writer said that it's road feedback amplified by my level kit. More bullshit.

What's the experience folks are having with this issue in Texas? If I take it to a different dealer for visit #4 will that qualify for me to start the buyback/BBB process?

I really, REALLY love this truck but it's a love/hate relationship when I realize I'm paying for a $38,000 maraca...

If your state is 4 attempts then any dealer will count, however GM may not authorize the new dealer to do any work, there have been a number of cases of that happening

Ok, its been a while since I last replied to this thread but recall I have a 2015 crew cab Silverado 1500 LT 4.3L V6, Z71, standard 6.5' bed with leer canopy.

It vibrates when the VLOM manifold shuts off 2 cylinders. Its been to the dealership several times for this, and I just heard back from the dealer that there is no fix. Big surprise there.

I love the truck but I cant really say I like the vibration. They have a GM field engineer looking into it, but so far there are no further bulletins.

They told me that it does not cause a malfunction in the drivetrain, but it is the resonance in the exhaust system that I feel in the steering wheel.

I don't have the 70+ mph vibration others post about (13,500 miles now) but that 4 cyl mode vibration under power is not too great a feeling.

Because none of the trade options look good, and I just bought this truck, and the fact that I have been through the lemon law debacle before (that is NOT a good option, folks, you get screwed that way).

I will explain for those who don't know the facts.

The way the lemon law works is that they deem the truck completely valueless at 100,000 miles. They pro-rate your settlement, so that if you spent $50,000 on the truck, and it has 10,000 miles on it, you will only get 80 percent of your money back. Then they will not pay any more for any improvements you have made, i.e. leather, mud flaps, ground effects, step boards, canopy, storage, spray in liner, etc. unless those were part of the purchase price.

So if you borrowed money to pay some portion of the $50,000, you get an opportunity to experience a bad day.

By the way, several have posted references to the Better Business Bureau. The BBB is not your friend. The BBB merely establishes a communication channel between you and the business, and to some extent mediates the conversation. They are not lawyers, do not take sides, and certainly do not force either party to abide by the agreements. This is a common misconception. Be warned, especially when you consider trading your POS GM truck for another make.

and some mention fuel prices... The Saudis wont keep oversupplying the oil market for long. This is done to crush the dollar, think about it people.

That leaves very few choices.

Amplified by the leveling kit, Lol the lack of understanding of vibrations and NVH at dealerships is why you get responses like this. The dealer wouldn't show me the PICO results for this very reason, because they haven't a clue what they're looking at. I asked to see them and was told there was " a problem with the recording function and they could only see the analysis in real time". GM should have been left to drown in their sea of mismanagement and crappy bottom line engineering. I really don't blame the engineers, partly because I am one and know that often times our hands are tied by some accountant who has determined it's not cost effective to deliver the best possible product to the customer. In Gm's case it usually takes multiple deaths to get off their ass and do something.

so unfortunately that means its not likely that anything will happen for us unless a major lawsuit gets off the ground, which is exactly what I'm trying to do and hoping for.

lol, there are a few firms with stuff like that on their website.

Update

Day 12 in shop. 615 miles. Purchased 1/4/16

1/29 service manager called, come test drive. Went for ride on highway and no differance what so ever. Exact same as when I brought it in. He sat in passenger seat and agreed. RFB numbers was great on all tires. Even tried 18" wheels n tires off new truck on lot (same brand tires) and 20" off new truck on lot (different brand tires). No differance. Tires n wheels have nothing to do with this. Said he would call GM and see about getting a engineer out. A 100 miles in test drives put on truck in 12 days. Again, this service manager is outstanding to deal with and is trying. With that said, Was so excited to see and drive my dream truck! Unfortunately the new truck feeling is gone.

Update

Got my truck back today with a new set of Michelins and the truck has never rode better. Had it up to 130kph and no vibration. Geez I hope it lasts.....

I wanted to believe the vibration was gone. I've driven truck a couple weeks and overall the vibration is better but its still there. An new rear end was installed to replace the defective rear end that was installed and new tires installed to replace defective tires that were installed. The vibration that's bothering me is in the steering wheel and has been there almost from day 1. The above fixes basically has put truck back to square 1.

I think that GM is looking in the wrong place for a solution. This thread is full of tires, drive shafts and rear end replacement and some times there are positive results but I think the problem is motor transmission related. In my case driving 80kph is just awful until I put it in M5. Why IMHO... the engine is laboring because of the high gear and then add AFM it becomes a vibrating mess. At freeway speeds 115kph+ all is well until the AFM kicks in. AFM starts the vibrations but, it doesn't go away when AFM shuts off, I have to change speeds for it to go away. This has probably got something to do with harmonics, resonance or something like that.

Another observation is the vibration is worse in wet weather. Maybe the motor is just running like a POS due to ignition stuff and shaking the truck. I've mentioned to the dealer that I don't think motor is running right but they plug it in and the diagnostics say otherwise. Basically the dealer has my truck in the working as designed category. I'm at a loss if I should just live with this and drive my automatic like a standard and pay big dollars to disable AFM.

Frustrating that a $63k truck works this way comments appreciated.

WOW... I had no idea a stupid $18 part could help...

To start out I have said a few times that I have the same shake most trucks have. Clear rear end vibration from 68 to 75.

I don't have the issue in the steering wheel.

Had two sets of tires RFB, yes two. I must complement the dealer on this. They RFB the factory wheels and tires which were in the bed of my truck. They also RFB the wheels and tires on my truck at no charge. They told me I would have to pay for the after market ones. Several tires were found out of spec. When it was all done they charged me nothing.

The RFB made it more irritating. The shake was not as bad, so that might be good. But... it now shook pretty much all the time. At 55 on any road there was a vibration that wasn't there before the RFB. This irritated me a lot more then the 68 to 75 version.

For no real good reason I bought an $18 leaf spring clamp for the local part store. I had a $20 gift card and figured why not.

This clamp was actually on the seat while GM did the RFB. I wanted to wait to see what happened before installing it.

HOW IN THE HELL... it worked!

Im mean really, there is no logical reason for that to help as much as it did. I need to drive it more, but on a short trip the improvement was instantly noticeable. The rear end rides smoother. Period... the truck is just smoother. I ran the ruck up to 90 in a 55 just cause I was shocked. Nothing... no real vibration. At 74 there was a slight vibration in the center consul. Before the stupid clamp the consul had more vibration at any speed. Im sure if there was a glass of water you could see a little movement but wow... even on my dirt driveway it felt smooth.

I am so happy. I want take a road trip to see if it is gone on all road surfaces.

No mater how stupid it seems, spend the $18. I mean you spent $40,000 on the truck.

Spend the $18 and 5 minutes to see if it makes a difference for you.

Did you put the clamps in front of or behind the axel, and how far? I have my clamps 5" in front of the block and they didn't improve anything for me. Thanks!

It really helped my ride alot in the rear still alittle stiff in the front. I was really amazed how much it helped. Its like driving a different truck.

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled. Long after. 😬   https://www.enginelabs.com/news/tech-tips-replacing-ls-active-fuel-management-lifters-with-melling/   The Gen5 lifters operate the same as the LS versions. In fact they are the same lifter.    https://www.enginelabs.com/tech-stories/sorting-out-gen-v-lt-lifter-failure-with-a-simple-valvetrain-fix/
    • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
