General Motors is moving farther along the process of testing the forthcoming 2020 Silverado HD and we've got photos to prove it.

Our spy photographer recently captured what looks to be work truck style trim level 2020 Silverado HD's testing on public Michigan roads. He notes:

------

We caught Chevy engineers testing prototypes for its work-spec Silverado 2500 HD WT pickups, conducting towing testing and standard unladen tests on Michigan highways.

The latest prototypes have dropped a little bit of camouflage, revealing some LED lighting details on the prototypes' towing mirrors, consisting of twin LED strips. The truck shows Chevrolet's WT-spec's stripped-down, budget-minded functionality. The Silverado HD's WP trim will feature a grille design similar to the Silverado 1500's WT models, with "CHEVROLET" emblazoned across the grille's crossbar (as seen in the teaser image earlier this year). The prototype also shows the simple, blacked-out trim and blacked-out front and rear bumpers. Simple steer wheels are also on display. Inside, expect to see and HD WT with vinyl or cloth interior, and a simple 7-inch LED touchscreen on the dash.

The new Silverado 1500 lineup has more model designations than ever before, and we expect a similar roll-out for the 2020 HD model-range. The stakes have never been higher in the Detroit 3 truck wars, and the combatants are all readying new, or updated assaults.

In addition to GM's heavy-duty prototypes that are undergoing an expansive testing regimen, Ram is readying extensively updated HD trucks in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

To round things out, Ford is working on mid-cylce updates for their own Super Duty Range to counter the oncoming HD onslaught, just as they did to counter the all new 2019 Ram, Silverado and Sierra 1500s from Ram, Chevy, and GMC.

What do you think? Are you excited for the next generation Silverado HD?

Nice.  Same bolt pattern as GMT-900-K2XX HD, looks to be the same frame yet it looks tucked up under the cab more?  I think its an illusion as the cab rockers have some more hangdown to them.

The mirrors are an evolved version of the K2 ones.  Glass and the LED cargos look the same.  Obvious change is the mounting/housing.

Mule with the steelies is diesel, and confirms the DEF tank is moved.  I think they are hiding a possible location with that bracketry covering the frame under the rear doors/front end of the box.  Or its a skid plating for the tank.  Silverado 1500 has the DEF tank on the passenger frame rail in that area more or less.

It looks like there is quite a bit of clearance around those tiny looking tires.

I am excited, I hope to order one.

My '18 will have 30k on it, or just a bit less. Perfect trade time, or sell to one of my visiting shop salesmen that want to know when he can take possession.....lol

Well, I'm pretty sure the 1st photo's are a Ford. You can see the Oval under the grill covering, the wheel wells are round, & it doesn't have the satellite antenna on the roof. Not very hard to tell those are two different trucks...

Good to see the DEF tank isn’t hanging down low anymore, definitely looks like it skipped leg day with those tires though ?.

Unless Ford is going to an independent front it's not a Ford.

Does ford use the non-centered shark fin XM/Sat antennas on the roof?

Not a Ford.

The oval there on purpose to make you think its a Ford, the missing antenna on the first truck could be just a work truck w/o onstar/XM.  The first truck has the current WT steel wheels on it, the second truck has a new wheel offering 18".  The new 1/2 ton has round wheel wells as will the HD.  The rear axle is clearly an AAM 11.5" axle.  And both are IFS with torsion bars visible.

They are both GM.
