General Motors' new 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo diesel engine is arriving later this year. Over the weekend GM-Trucks.com received confirmation of the new engine's specifications when in the 2019 and 2020 Silverado.

Elizabeth Winter, Assistant Manager, GM Product and Brand Communications told us:

I can confirm that the all-new, Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo diesel will deliver an SAE-certified 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, more than any other light-duty, full-size truck diesel available. Dealers and customers can place orders for the efficient, refined diesel and the first customer deliveries begin this summer. We will share more information, including towing capacity and efficiency, in the near future. It is priced identically to the 6.2L V-8 as a $2,495 premium over a 5.3L V-8 model (or $3,890 over a 2.7L Turbo model) making the 3.0L Duramax the most affordable light-duty diesel engine on the market.

GM has said previously that the Silverado's new 3.0-turbo diesel engine have start/stop technology and will be paired with a 10-speed transmission. By comparison, Ford's Power Stroke diesel, arriving in May, offers 250 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2019 Ram has not yet received its updated diesel engine. The 2018 diesel engine offerings specs were 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.

We will bring you more information as it is made available.

Same price as the 6.2.  Nice.  When checking the box for it on LT you must also add the (PCL) Convenience Package and (Z82) Trailering Package, and on RST the (PCL) Convenience Package or (PCH) Convenience Package with Bucket seats and (Z82) Trailering Package .

Wow, I am impressed by the pricing for the option.  Identical to the 6.2L. Interesting... I think the Ford Powerstroke engine is around a $4000 option.

The fact that this engine is available on pretty much all trim levels (i think?) would make me think that we could see these put some sales competition against the 6.2L.

I know it would make me think twice.  I have an SLT trim because I wanted the 6.2L. Now, if I could get a 3.0 Duramax in a lower trim level... well... I may think twice... especially if this Duramax has good MPG ratings.  I have high expectations but would like to see 35MPG highway, 25-27 City.  Probably not realistic, but hey that would definitely make me think twice on the next purchase!

I didn't see the Duramax option on the build sites yet but I priced out a Silverado RST with just some basic additions, approached 50k in no time... goodness... might as well just opt for a Sierra AT4 lol!

Like everything GM these days. They get you excited for it and then you don't see it for a year and a half. Maybe they will fly the engine into a state fair hanging on a helicopter.

Wow, the upcharge is perfect!  GM has just killed FERD'S effort and Ram's in the 1/2 ton Diesel segment!  GM will have many, many, many orders for this too good to be true option.  Awesome!

Not as long as it's going to be in the ugly new Sierra and Silverado.  Sorry but I predict orders will be dismal and not just because of the looks.

I think they look fantastic and I also predict the diesel will be a big hit.  Lots of folks have been waiting a long time for something like this.

I am very excited about this engine option though I'm holding my breath. I want to see those towing numbers first.

It would have to tow more than a 5.3 and cost less than a 6.2 to get my interest..

Good numbers for the 3.0L Duramax.

Nice to finally have a diesel in the half-tons.

I was excited for the 4.5L duramax before bankruptcy.
