any issues bleeding breaks? i had issues with my master cylinder when i first bought my truck and the dealership had never dealt with the breaks on these new trucks. apparently you have to put a pump on the system to properly bleed these breaks.

I had the dealer install these and they blew out my master cylinder, 3 weeks later they can't get the new one programmed. I'm being told there is a problem on GM's side. Extremely frustrating. I had the truck less than two weeks wen I brought it in for the brake upgrade and some other GMC Accessories

I Installed these on a friends truck.  Gravity bled them one at a time until fluid came out and bled normally with two people.  Don't let the small reservoir go empty and it will be ok.  I didn't have a wheel sensor plugged in all the way and the truck went crazy when we started back up.  It took several restarts to clear the error once the sensor was plugged back in.

Someone said it earlier, OEM is ceramic.  Great for low brake dust, but horrible for stopping power.  I noticed the spongy pedal feel on day one and started to investigate solutions. 

A good semi metallic pad will make all the difference.    Luckily the Brembo pad is a SM and will give you amazing stopping power.  My 1LE was absolutely amazing.

I would have to STRONGLY disagree.  My OEM brakes are FANTASTIC and have zero fade, creep, or sponge feeling after 25k+ miles.  I think the general consensus on this site and others is that the factory brakes are far superior to anything GM has put out in past trucks and I would have to agree.  Are they comparable to a Corvette?  No.  But they are darn good compared to any other truck I have driven or test drove before purchasing this one.

 

The Silverado may have 99 problems, but the brakes ain't one.

For those of you looking at this system, take your tome and look at the Willwood kit for out trucks. It has bigger 16” 2 piece rotors for only a couple hundred more. That’s the kit I will go with if I decide to do a big break kit.

Agree, Love my OEM brakes. Stops on a dime and gives nine cents in change. ?  135K miles and still rock' n.

Have the Brembo brake kit on my 2019 Tahoe and at 48000 km have brake judder when hot occasionally. Trying to rebed the pads to see if it will stop. Was told long highway trips will do this to the brakes.

I’d be curious to see some technical data showing distances, temp, etc for braking under various conditions with stock vs the Brembo upgrade. Might even add a 3rd comparable of stock with SM pads. And if one were to get crazy a 4th showing the Wilwood option. 
 

I don’t have “direct” comparisons. However my 6.2 AT4 feels a little weak to me also. The last personal truck I had was a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 with 5.7 Hemi, 8-speed and 3.92’s. Very comparable to the AT4 despite a 7 year gap. Those brakes were better. My last company I worked for gave me a Ford Explorer SLT. Brakes were really good in it. 
 

I make no qualms or excuses. I tend to drive more aggressive than others but not crazy or unsafe. My driving style didn’t change amongst the last 3 vehicles. My wife’s 2019 Armada is probably worst than the AT4 but it’s due for a brake job. 
 

Don’t take me wrong, I love my AT4 but I would appreciate a significant brake upgrade. And from my hot rod days anytime Brembo or Wilwood comes up, it’s going to be a big expenditure. I don’t mind to spend the bucks if the performance is really all that.

I had good luck with cryogenically treated rotors from Frozen Rotor and Hawk LT pads, the green ones. It was on an older Honda Ridgeline, which had average brakes. The combo above really improved stopping without any change in size of rotors, etc. They dust more and got a bit noisy after 20K miles but what an improvement in stopping power.

 

I had 6 piston Brembo calipers and 2-piece rotors of a Challenger Scat Pack. 4 piston in the rear with a 1-piece rotor. Awesome brakes but obviously a very different vehicle but also on 275 tires. Overall, I’m satisfied with the stock brakes on my TB, short travel and good bite - at least at 1700 miles.

Just an update. After a escalated dialogue with GM Canada Warranty they replaced the rotors and pads. 3000 more km now and they are good for now.

Well after 10k km the braking is excellent but I'm noticing pad transfer at the middle of the rotor. Not an even shine across the entire face. I'm hoping that the original problem is not returning. Anyone  else have some longer term experiences?

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
