Reading through this thread (whew!), it seems that most people got their trucks stock with GoodYear tires. I wonder if the choice of tire is a regional thing or what.

I just bought a 2015(.5 I guess) GMC Sierra SLE. It is Crew Cab, 4X4, 5.3, 1K miles so far. It came stock with Bridgestone Dueler tires. I live in the Northern California area.

So far, I have not noticed any unusal vibration at any speed (knock on wood), or V8/V4 mode. I am concerned by the extent of this vibration problem though. I only came across this forum because of a reference on the Chevy Traverse forum because I also have a 2010 Traverse that just had the timing chain TSB done (that apparently is another GM horror story). It also came with Bridgestone Dueler tires.

So, I will continue to follow this thread and hope I don't end up with the vibration problem.

Has any updated to Bilstein (or any other) shocks and fixed the vibration issue?

 

I am curious about this as well. I read on another forum where they did upgrade to bilsteins and it fixed the vibe. Its a cheap fix for rear shocks at about $160 for the two rears.. Even if it doesn't fix it, you will still most likely have a tad bit better ride. Might be worth a shot.

I also read this on another thread.

 

I have stock OE shocks not ranchos. With these stiffer frames they may not do to well at dampening out all the extra frame harshness or drivetrain harmonics.

I have the random 70-75mph vibe on smooth highway and yes i did install Bilstein 4600 HD's on all 4 corners,It did'nt cure the random vibes but it rides so much better than the OEM (black) shocks and struts.No more bouncy bumps,Bilsteins were $325 and i installed them myself.The difference in dampening is night and day.Again this did NOT solve my random vibes at highway speeds,but eliminated the bouncy ride.

300ktm just posted yestetday that he put Michilen tires, Gabriel ultra shocks on the rear along with balancing the drive shaft and it was better.

 

Thanks zachybean for confirming also.

 

So it sound like properly balancing the tires and drive shaft and putting some quality tires and shocks on can make a difference in taming the vib.

 

I still think this is masking the origional problem though.

Editing post. I disabled AFM (v4) a few days ago and after my morning commute today I can surely confirm I still get the random skakes at higher speeds that come and go. The vibration I was feeling in the gas petal I thought at first seemed less intense with AFM off but after today I don't think it is. I also feel a steering wheel vibration more so than I did before my truck was in for service last week. Seems like maybe them remounting and rebalancing the tire could have made it worse. @ kchaggins - That is the most ridiculous comment I have ever read, If it's not your concern, why bother write 5 paragraphs.

 

I paid (or am paying) for a $44,000, "Professional Grade" truck, I don't expect it to drive like BMW or handle corners like a Corvette, but it should not be vibrating. As for the "mpg" , most truck owners don't buy the vehicle for gas mileage efficiencies. That is a government mandated number that the manufactures must meet. Thankfully this model can be switched to V8 mode, minus 6th gear, by method described by 'EastCoast HD' in previous post.

Thank you 'EastCoast HD' for confirming this feature, I thought that there was something wrong with the "manual mode' , as I was trying different gears to check for the vibration issues.

On a seperate note, I also noticed the "traction control" doesn't actual shut off. Or it does, but the " stability Track" stays engaged to prevent the rear end from breaking loose above ~ 30mph or from coming around, preventing the "power slide" or "donut" horse play. Again a mandated "safety" feature.

Anyway, My 1993 Ford Ranger V6 Ext Cab w/ 4" suspension lift and 33" BF Goodrich never vibrated. I was original owner and installed al the goodies after warranty expired, never had a problem. Goes to show, more technology, more bells and whistles,....more potential problems.

This vibration was noticable when I test drove the truck, but was told it was a"flat spot" on tires from sitting as it was an early model. I called bullshit, and the sales guy said it's all under warranty if there are and issues.. Now they just need to find the cure for the issues.

BTW..I wont let it bother me anymore if 'kchaggins' wants to make my payments, lol....actually it would still bother me, just slightly less

Thanks for the comments and consideration. Since I am not an automotive technician my dissenting opinions are merely opinions and nothing more. To be clear, my comments address 2014, 2015 Silverado 1500’s with low speed v8 to v4 vibration. Keep the comments coming, I’m learning allot.

I invite you to come share a meal with me where I will prepare tainted meat for you to eat because by your logic, hey you cant expect the things you buy to be quality products or work properly.

geez, you have to be a paid shill GM employee trying to spread stupidity in the hopes people are high enough on drugs to swallow your horse manure to agree that their truck are supposed to shake like farm trucks driving across a corn field? tell your GM bosses there aren't enough drugs in the world to make us think these trucks are supposed to shake like that, but then GM will soon be out of the truck selling business because of their stupid handling of this. the word is out and you are becoming know as THE brand to never buy.

To be clear my comments concern issues pertaining to low speed 40 mph V8 toV4 transition vibrations. I stand by those comments! Raw or not I call it like I see it.

 

That said, my Silverado also has the dreaded high speed vibration. Today I picked up the phone and call some of my Dealer contacts and they are being made aware of this condition impacting a limited amount of 2014, 2015 Silverado’s. Procedures are in place for a fix, however, successful repairs are dependent on technician training, equipment upgrades and Dealer due-diligence apparently not consistent among dealerships. Monday my truck goes in for servicing. I will keep you informed of the results.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
