Any of you have 275/60R20 tires or larger? If so, what brand? Improvements to ride quality? I've been all over this forum and a couple others. Mostly curious.

Yes. Toyo A/T close to that size for the first 55K miles, BFG A/T KO2 for 14K miles since. Smooth all the way. Fuel 20 inch wheels since day one.

 

I've driven about 20 Silverados and Sierras, 14-16 model years, and all have been smooth except for one 16 Silverado crew with 5.5 box. Currently have my 14 Sierra crew 6.5 box and 16 Silverado crew 6.5 box. They're both 4x4. The Sierra is non-Z71 with aftermarket wheels and tires, the Silverado is a stock Z71. Sierra has 69K miles, Silverado 2,500. Both smooth. Both 5.3 6-speed. Both averaging about 20mpg overall.

Could a few of you give more input on how much vibration you're experiencing? I started out with my center console shaking to the point where water was splashing around at highway speeds and my passenger headlight flickering. After 2 visits to the dealership and having 2 tires replaced and all road force balanced I'm only experiencing minor vibration in the steering wheel. It's it even worth it to make it absolutely smooth? How sensitive are these trucks to road imperfections? I feel like I might be being too picky. I mean it is a truck after all, not a sports car?

According to them, GM does not warrant tire balance. They people at the dealer aren't being assholes about it but I will drop it right back off if it isn't fixed.

Bullsh*t, Ive had my tires balanced 3 times and 10 different replacement tires (not including the originals) and never paid them a dime.

 

Keep the receipt because it will feel great for a few days and slowly return. Get your money back when it does!

Don't pay them to begin with, ask them to let you test it fora week or 2 then if its fixed maybe pay them.... or dispute it on a credit card haha

 

Yeah I believe GM covers the tires, from having to replace them or to rebalance them, up to 12k. My dealer ate the cost of rebalance at 34k, they are awesome

I don't see how they can charge you. I just had two replaced and all 4 road force balanced. Plus the front 2 re-road force balanced after I still was experiencing vibration. I left the dealership today and I'd say it's 98% fixed. I maybe just looking for it so much now that I don't know what fixed even means anymore. I swear I'm paranoid about the issue now, especially after reading this thread lol

These trucks have proven to be extremely sensitive to everything

I'm with you here. They've balanced these this down from an obvious steering wheel shave to minor trembling on the steering wheel.

 

If I hold the steering wheel with both hands, it pretty much reduces the trembling to an acceptable level. So much that I think the tech would think I'm being OCD.

 

There moments when this changes, I can have a cold morning and it drives great. And I can have a really hot afternoon and it will tremble.

 

Considering how much has the vibration has gone down since the road force, and how the trembling varies with temperature, I'm really tempted to say it's the tires.

 

Even though I want BFG KO2s, I'm strongly considering just switching the tires out to Michelin's LTXs. It'll have to be better than it is, maybe even squash the problem.

Back again, I do mostly highway driving.

 

I am looking for someone with some mechanical advice on the vibrations that I experience.

 

The vibration moves around. Seat uphill and steering wheel downhill. Comes and goes. Sweeping highway turns seems to be aggravate it more than other things.

 

I would say tires but I have had them balanced and RFB countless times.

 

Any mechanics have an idea what would cause the issue in the turns? That is where I want to start.

I got call from the dealer. They are saying 3/4 tires are bad. One is a 3. The two are just above 20 and one is 40. Unfortunately I did not buy my tires at the dealership. So I called the place I bought them and they are saying that the road force balancing is not a definitive answer that a tire is defective. So now I have prove to them that something is bad with their tire.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Two hands on the wheel and it drives really well. Driving with 1 hand, I'm about to lose my mind with the vibration even though it's minuscule. I wish I could drop the coin to try out new tires but it's not in my budget at the moment. Also I feel like I vibes more when in AFM (V4). I just went on a 30 minute drive and it feels like I'm getting steering wheel vibration at most speeds. If you buy new tires please post if it helped or didnt. I think we have the exact same issue.

Well my vibration is completely gone. Was tires of the dealership excuse. So I decided to try a few things myself. I started with swapping CV axles with new ones from the parts store. No change so I returned them. Then I replaced the drivers side hub assembly(wheel bearing) And all I have to say is POOF it's gone. I own a schizophrenic 2015 Silverado 1500 4x4 Z71 Crew Cab. Bought new in October, 2015. First 300 miles I thought I was driving a Cadillac. Then hit 76 mph on the interstate and got the shakes, bad. At 1600 miles dealer replaced 2 tires and 2 shocks, RFBd the wheels/tires and things got much better, in particular the 75-80 mph highway vibe. Now have 9000 miles and intermittent vibrations/shakes/jiggles anywhere, anytime/ any speed / any road surface. And sometimes the gear shifts feel like an old first generation auto transmission from 50 years ago. Went to dealer, drove a 2016,and 2017. Unfortunately I feel the same underlying shimmy/jiggle at any speed, just not as severe . Cannot believe GM gets away with selling this crap. I'm done. Life is too short to dance with ugly women or drive a POS truck . And we taxpayers bailed these charlatans out. Ughh.

Naah we didn't bail em out. They had plenty of assets and reserves to get em by just fine.

Where were you getting vibrations and what did it feel like?

I wear crocs when I work on vehicles sometimes, unless it's something like a transmission or rear end or something. They're like clouds for your feet #noshame

There actually are standards for RFB tires. 40 is way over, 20... depends on where withing 20 it is. If i remember right 23 or 25 is the standard high. 3 is very good, and a very stiff sidewall
