Well crap-- I was afraid of that, still looking for the magic bullet. Thanks for the info though.

My service guy said they had one in where they replaced the rear end and drive shaft, and it did nothing. So he's using that as an excuse to not want to look into the drive shaft or rear end or axles.

I do believe that the stiff frames magnify any vibrations, but what the hell, Honda figured out years ago that they had to engineer flex into their motorcycle frames. What's taking GM so long?

Here is my story. Had a vibration from day one flat spots on the tires it will go away. Should have real quickly If true.

Went to the dealer and they RFB the tires and replaced several. I had the LS2's the poorest excuse for a truck tire from Goodyear I have ever seen. I pitched a fit about the safety of the tires. They spun very easily and weren't exactly confidence inspiring in the braking department either.

Long story short I returned them to Goodyear and paid the difference for their best tire I think wrangler AT with a Kevlar belt. Much better tire. Pitched a fit with GM too and received a concession.

Felt good at first still vibrated then I had them rotated and balanced again at 6,000 miles felt good for about 50 miles. All this time I was experiencing vibrations over 70 sometimes worse then others like everything got in sync tires, roadway, and whatever and it really vibrated.

In addition I have changed to Bilstein 5100's which is nice improvement in ride and handling IMO. Tried them at their highest setting to level the truck but didn't like the ride of the compressed springs. Settled on one setting above stock and I am very pleased.

So around 6500 miles I am little irritated with the vibration and trips to the dealer are a real PITA where I am currently working.

After reading every post on this board I am ready to try the driveshaft. But since I had the front shocks lowered to one above stock the the steering wheel is cocked slightly to the right which bothers me. The shop did a poor job on the alignment.

So I take it to Parker Tire in Tallassee,Al and ask them to correct the alignment and RFB the tires. They said most of the tires had too much weight. All but one tire was in spec under 25 lbs the other over 32. But the improvement was very noticeable.

I also somewhere in the this time frame torqued my axle u bolts to 80 lbs whiched helped also.

Around 12,500 miles noticed the vibrations coming back some.

Back to Parker for another RFB and rotation which put the one out of spec tire on the back.

Truck is really smooth.

Plus I torqued the bolts to 100lbs and I noticed the truck just felt tighter.

The only time I notice vibrations now are ones I blame on the road surface.

So from my experience I would suggest tightening the u bolts to 100lbs getting a good RFB where they will actually rotate the tires on the wheels to get the best balance.

Changing the shocks might help too.

 

Also my son had a 2014 GMC CC all terrain with stock Bridgestone tires and never complained of any vibration issues during the 35,000 miles he had it.

You forgot to add Driver sensitivity to vibration on your list RT, GM has tried to blame it on that. Even in my case they tried it, funny how my sensitivity was cured by Toyota. But the co pay was kind of expensive lol

Yeah mine said that in sorts and I called bullshit when I made him ride with me in an on the lot used 2012 and it was perfect! I do have something else I'm gonna try and that is to take a diff carrier with ring gear installed and check runout on the outer portion of the gear and then check balance. Some have stated the ring gear was their issue and gm did a gear change. Soooooo on to the next step. BTW i found that the out of round axle flanges that I just tested had over 18 grams of weight that i turned off of the axle that i trued up. That's a helluva lot!

I think that is part of the problem, there are so many things out of balance that on some of the trucks they cancel each other out and you get a smooth one. But I only hear that there are smooth ones out there as I have never actually been in one.

Well come on down to Phoenix....you can have the keys and go as fast as you like and notice how smooth it is! Don't concern yourself with the plethora of weights on each CHROME CLAD WHEEL OR THE DRIVESHAFT? BUT YEAH>>>>IT"S SMOOTH

18 grams? That's like a half ounce of "Pot" A 5,000 pound+ Truck with 1/2 ounce of pot on one side vs the other? Really, I am going to the garage to burn one because now I have officially heard it all. I can't comment any more on this sorry@

Well go smoke one you dumb ass pot head! And on two axle shaft flanges yeah it's alot. And it took that much to true them up! So if your truck doesn't shake then SEE YA!!!!

It's very sad that this thread is up to 692 pages. I often think about trading my 2015 2500 in for a new 1500 with a leveling kit, each time I read this it makes me rethink that idea. You would think GM could get it together and solve this problem. I cancelled an order on a 2014 1500 for this very reason, yet they have made four model years since then, and problems are still showing up. Very sad

Happy New Year. I'm taking my truck back to stock. No more levels, lifts, or aftermarket wheels/tires, just stock. Then I'll see about some overpriced highway tires(or whatever balances best), a trued driveshaft, and axles. Maybe I'll drop the rear or add a sway bar like RAM does it. I just need to not be pissed, fixing this truck is not a real thing. Tolerable will do.

    • Thanks!  I figured as such; GM and other manufacturers have used standard parts and harnesses across trim levels and such for decades.  I pulled the blank accessory cover off of my commuter van (a 2016 or so Chevy 15-passenger) years ago and found the plug for a USB outlet.  It wasn't connected to anything, though (I tried swapping in an outlet from another van).  I was a GM Tech years ago (late-90s) and was pretty familiar with my 2006.  I might be wrong, but I view newer vehicles (pretty much anything made in the past 20 years) as being a lot more plug and play.  Meaning, more unused wires and plugs unless you have the Mack Daddy of vehicles.    
    • not all plugs will be used.  gm uses more generic harnesses that support most/all options, and if your truck doesn't have a specfiic option, the plug won't be used (commonly will have a dummy insert in the plug , or it'll be taped up, but some may just be left as is).  But it's sldo possible some p.o. has installed the wrong/cheaper parts that aren't correct for your vehicle...
    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.  
    • I always drive in Sport mode. With more driving, I am finding the initial response when accelerating is much quicker now🖕 Lou
