Agree 100%. My vibration was a bad driver side axle shaft flange with lateral run-out.

I read some months ago that GM is phasing out contractor axle production in Mexico and is starting up an in-house line in Detroit.  Not sure about the specifics, timing, etc.. But whoever is interested can Google it.

Who on here decided to replace their truck with a Ram? Thinking about getting one.
You don't like your F150 anymore?

No thats not it. Was in an accident and its totaled. Can't get a good enough deal on an 18.... can save about $20k getting a Ram Limited.

Not me have had Fords and Dodge Cummins. Now have a 2015 4x4 Sierra. Best truck I've ever owned.  Absolutely love it. No vibs here.

First and foremost. Are you ok? Sucks about the truck.

I like the air ride more than the truck. But the new design is an improvement.

Yes, I'm ok... to the amazement of everyone. Thanks for asking... cops, fire dept, paramedics, and tow truck driver all pulled up expecting me to be seriously injured or dead.... I was up, walking around perfectly fine. I credit driving a truck with saving my life.

Snapped the front cross member of the frame, snapped the front axle, ripped the passenger side suspension out, windshield and passenger side windows cracked, cracked the windshield pillar, buckled the roof, the cab got pushed back into the bed, the engine was pushed into the firewall and the motor mount broke, the side rails of the frame bent and the cab is crooked.... hit so had even the rear bumper split apart.

I agree with the look, but I think I could live with it for a $20k savings over Ford.... I'll never own another GM. I think i posted a while back that the Denali I traded for my ford is now going through the same process I went through on the Chevy.

Glad you're ok. Now I can talk about trucks.

I traded my truck for a '18 Camaro. The dealership gave me a great deal and I left with a much cheaper note. No more shaking.

Maybe in a couple years I'll consider another truck. If RAM has decent success with the new design, it will get a serious look.

From what I've read they have been pretty rock solid, and are number 1 or 2 in a lot or reviews. A couple of my neighbors have them and love them. Just wanted an opinion from someone here who has the shakes with their truck. Congrats on the Camaro! I'm just concerned with the old corrosion issues that they used to have.

Hey Jesse, sorry about your truck but glad that you're ok.  I'm still driving my 2015 Silverado and still no Chevy Shake, fingers crossed, lol!

About the Ram;  I've driven one and it does ride smoother than either the Silverado or F-150.  However, I think it's due to the rear coil springs more than the air lift setup.  I personally though, don't like the way the truck sits if that makes any sense.  Other than that I like the truck real well.

If I were in your situation I might consider buying an old beater to drive till the 2019 GM T1XX comes out.  I'm guessing the nefarious Chevy Shake will have been addressed in the new platform.

I got a 2017 RAM Rebel once GM bought back my shaky Sierra.

Overall I am really happy with it and it is a much more comfortable truck than the Sierra.  Plus it has not been to the shop once in the 4 months that I have owned it which is nice.

The only things that are worse than the Sierra overall is the MPG is about 3 less than what I was getting with the Sierra,  the Uconnect is nowhere near as good as the GM infotainment, and the knob shifter is annoying compared to the column/center console.  Everything else if the same or an improvement.

I test drove a F150 before I got the RAM and thought the ride quality was much better on the RAM.  I don't think you will be disappointed.

I will say there is one plus with U connect. When tuned into XM, the album art is a nice touch. GM should come out with a patch to add this feature.

Toyota Tundra also has a better screen layout with album art and also a combo screen that shows song/ artist, navigation, and weather at the same time.  Nothing like that on Chevy MyLink. Even my 2008 Sierra at least had a split screen for radio and nav.  GM going backwards yet again.

Thanks SB. It's unfortunate about the truck, but atleast I'm ok.

I have prices for a new near identical 2018 F150 = 56,748

A 2017 Platinum (not like my old truck) = 54,930

A new 2017 Ram Limited fully loaded = 47,490 if I finance through chrysler

not sure what I'll end up doing, I liked them both but I thought I'd be getting a better deal on the ram after factoring in the below invoice and incentives from my corporate discount....

Thanks for the info. I test drove both the air and the coils tonight, and the Air was definitely a better ride. Just about anything is better than a truck with the shakes.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
