Why would you leave a nasty note? Do you think the dealer came to your house, broke into your truck, and stuck something in the lock cylinder? You may or may not be aware of it, but, your truck came with a warranty for a reason. Call roadside assist, tell them the truck won't start, and they will come get it and drop it at the dealer.

Forget the note, I will be there in person to tell them what I think and since it is impossible to talk with someone at GM...the dealership is the next best thing. No, I didn't think anyone broke into my truck because my 9mm still has two full clips. As for the warranty, yes this isn't my first vehicle purchase, so I am well aware of what a warranty is...just never had to use it one week into the purchase.

If you don't have legit suggestions or help, don't reply to my posts with your smarta__ answers. EEEHHHHHH

I think that a legit suggestion is to let the dealer take care of it. That is what the warranty is for. And no that is not a Smartass answer..

GM needs to get it right, or stop trying. My '07 was also back to the dealer one week after purchase for pulsating brakes. This experience & 38k miles out of ball joints killed all respect I had for GM. Dale has a right to be pissed - I'm assuming he paid around FORTY LARGE for this thing .. or MORE. Think we could get some quality for our hard earned money??

Now ... what the hell did they go and change the key design & ignition switch for? My key & ignition has worked flawlessly since day one. Guess they found a cheaper way to make them, instead of sticking with what WORKS RELIABLY. Typical ...

Wish I had a money tree growing in my backyard to buy $40k trucks every year - then I could ridicule everyone who complains about GM's shoddy manufacturing practices (and ethics) too.

I came here for suggestions/help first...thinking that someone might be experiencing the same problem. This site has a wealth of knowledge and I was hoping to get some help/direction before my last resort of having the dealer come an put it on the hook.

You have a right to your opinion/definition of smarta__...my opinion/definition is different and this was not a legit response but a sarcastic smarta__ answer that I don't need/want when I just layed down 40 grand for a new truck.

Moderator...lock this one...I will be visiting my dealer today to discuss the ignition issue further.

My post was not written sarcastically, I was simply trying figure out why you would feel it was necessary to leave a nasty note to the dealer, who did nothing wrong, hell they did not even know your truck was disabled. Pretty sure I did leave a suggestion in my post. It was even the first post to mention Roadside Assistance.

My first reaction to a fatal error of a new vehicle is not to go online to see if someone has had the same issue. I call roadside assistance, give them the location where the vehicle is, and have them tow to dealership. Then

I wait to hear what is wrong, and how long till I get it back. If not back same day, I ask for a courtesy vehicle.

Think about what you are having an issue with. The key will not insert far enough to work. Other than jiggle the steering wheel/shifter, there is not much more you can do. I would think that you likely already did both those things before you even posted here. As for something happening a week into ownership, it is a whole lot better than it happening a week out of warranty.

Post back with the fix, might help someone else

Compared to some issues people are having with their trucks (vibration, transmission, etc.), this key issue is relatively simple and easy to fix. At worst they will replace the ignition switch and the key. I know it is an annoying thing to happen on a new truck, but at least you can be assured that there is a sure fix for it.

Yes, but the vibrations issues, etc won't leave you stranded. This ignition switch problem will. This is the worse problem you can have.... especially not good when you are 20 miles out in the middle of the woods.

more than likely the pin in the cylinder broke loose, this is a known issue that is handled on a case by case scenario. Last I read there is an updated cylinder they will replace it with.

This happens to me every now and then. I usually just pull the key out a little bit, and push it back in with no further issues. Having said this, I had my truck in the dealer for work over the weekend, oil change and safety recall, and apparently the mechanic had an issue. I did not mention this to the dealer when I dropped it off, as it was not on my radar.

Anyway the dealer replaced the cylinder (22855177) and case (22834639), and they even gave me the additional key (22984996) they used to install the cylinder. I didn't ask for them to look into this, but it is nice to see a dealer fix stuff they find that is not right. I call it good customer relations. As stated about, there is a notice PIT5234A issued for this problem.

Update...truck picked up on the hook last Monday...talked with service and they confirmed that a TSB/notice did exist concerning the ignition cylinder. They requested both keys, had to order another ignition cylinder and addition keys cut by GM.

Called today...they have the ignition cylinder ready to install, but can't install until GM cuts the new keys and sends them to the dealership. Doesn't sound good if you need a key made in the future if it takes over a week to do this.

On a positive note, the dealership delivered me a nice 2013 Ford Fiesta courtesy car that really benefited me during all this snow.

Who doesn't enjoy a good fiesta now and again?
