My 14 silverado had it as well, mainly on the drivers side. Being black, in the right light it looked like ass

Did you get yours fixed? I have the tungsten metallic color and it's definitely noticeable too.

It's a cosmetic defect (I think) and seems to be a somewhat widespread problem. Must have been a bad batch or bad GM technician putting them together. I'm not sure if I am going to pursue this with the dealer or GM, but it does bug me being a brand new truck. Wish I had noticed it at or before delivery...

Got rid of the truck with Gm trade assistance :) in a sierra now and it's fine

Was the the main issue or problem that caused you to get rid of it? Or were there other issues? Thanks.

The question here would be whats your build date? Pictures of the area in question so the rest of us can inspect our trucks .

My build date is 4/14..And the problem looks the same as what is shown in JamGear's picture of the side of his bed. Only on the drivers side...

So let me get this straight. You have a 5th wheel on a half ton? Forgive me if I am wrong but I'd at least have a 2500 or heavier for that..

If it is only on the one side, and in the same place on all the trucks with this problem, it is likely a stamping problem. That is a very large panel to stamp out with curves and contours, mainly the flare at the wheel opening. The dies used to stamp these panels are enormous, and a flat sheet of galvanized steel is placed in to be stamped. The die has what are called draw beads around the outside edge which engage the sheet to hold it while the die draws out the form of the panel. Of course there is a lot of stretching and heat going on during this draw cycle. They use oils or coolants to aid in this process, but sometimes the draw beads might show signs of galling. If this happens, it will stretch high stress areas, making the metal thin and weaker in these areas. The draw beads are there to hold the sheet until the main draw takes over, so there is no overlap or crinkling. Most of these dies have a nitro cylinders that act like air springs that aid in the draw, which could have been lower than optimum pressure. Another possibility is they didn't have the setup correct (shut height) for a certain amount of panels during a run, since others seem to be having the same problem?

My guess, by what I can see from the pic, is it may be a stamping die issue? Either that or the guy installing that side of the truck box is using a rubber hammer?

I am still in process with the dealer. I think they will pay to have it fixed. But we all decided to wait until after my Labor Day RV trip to see if it gets worse. I will, of coarse, keep everyone posted here in this forum. Maybe you and should message directly on this?

I have the Max Tow package with a 3.73 axle ratio, 11,200 lb tow and 1860 lb payload. My 5th wheel is 10,500 lb (full load) and 1660 lb on the kingpin. It's a new segment of the 1500 series. They should have called it a 2000

I have had one dent on the driver side of mine that really bothers me. I'm not sure the exact build date but it is early, has the power slider. I noticed it before I ever had anything in the bed. I really don't see how anything could have hit it there and there aren't any scuff marks or paint scratches.

The Chevrolet factory rep will be taking a look at my truck for this issue in two weeks. I will let you all know how that goes.

I have the exact same dent on my 14, and I don't haul anything. Keep us updated, I have to take mine in soon since my reverse camera likes to get stuck on way after I put it in drive
