The next Ford Raptor will be the first with a mainly aluminum body. Some composite parts will be even lighter than aluminum. The Raptor is also going to go with the second-generation 3.5-Liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6 rather than a V8. Predictions are 450 hp and a huge boost in torque compared to prior Raptors. Ford released the following video to get folks thinking about what this truck will be capable of. The Colorado ZR2 cannot come fast enough.

It looks like it can get the job done but I really like the previous model better.

How about some competition? GM? ZR2?

Meh people don't seem to understand that if your throwing 35s on even the Ecoboost your MPG is going to be crap. Truth be told i've yet to really see the ecoboost outshine cylinder deactivation. The only trucks that are reliably getting much better gas mileage are the eco-diesels. Don't get me wrong i'm all for more MPG but the raptor is a performance vehicle first, mall crawler second, and daily driver last. It's impractical for most actual truck duties. It's meant for racing where MPG means diddly squat. Bring the V8 back already.

50$ says they introduce the V8 down the road.

the Great Displacement Purge at Ford is Beginning: First their Big SUVs, and now the one cool vehicle in their lineup besides the mustang. I fear in a few years, we won't see anything bigger that 4 Liters, or more than 6 cylinders at Ford, and most (if not all) will carry that EgoBoost Badge.

It's cool that the manufacturers test at the ORV parks out here. That looks like Rocks and Valleys or maybe Mounds.

Truck will be better once someone LS-swaps it.

so true. this stuff has made rounds since the slant six in a 350,000 pound dodge pickup.

you know what is funny, when a v8 wants to play economy and move the big treads.. you get a manual transmission, get the gears just right.

it will end up 3.9 rear and a .78 final.

it has never lost yet. the same gas burning is going to have the same result for as long as we burn the same stuff.

diesel is a new adventure, and that is where snail tech is going to win.

Pffft. My truck would handle that trail easily and I still have the stock Rancho suspension. But regardless fords decision to go with a turbo V6 was dumb. I actually use my truck off road and I can tell you a turbo V6 would not last long in the same enviroment. I have had my exhaust manifolds glowing red hot, imagine that heat soak and temp going into the intercooler. I know they ran it at the baja but knowing ford that truck was probably modified. I never ever see any ecoboosts at the dunes I go to or the trails we hit
